Small general improvements

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Papas on February 20th, 2004, 11:24 am
If you could make some small improvements to SFGAm to make the experience a little better, what would they be? (And I dont mean new rides). Heres my list in no particular order.

1. More ride ops on busy days:
C'mon its horrible to have all your flats closed on the busiest day of the season to have more ops at coasters, who knows, maybe they couldnt get anyone to work that day though. Just throw my selective hiring theory out the door (sarcasm). Normally not a problem though.

2. Clean the queues during the day:
Like most all parks the sweepers keep the midways nice and clean, but they are not allowed to go in ride queues. The only times the queues are really cleaned each day are before and after closing. in my opinion if you have second shift ops coming in, or coming back from break, they should clean the queue (out of all the ops I have seen 1 clean during the day when he was coming back from break).

3. Choose thy fate:
If you have ever waited for Eagle past the seperation point you know how they have that sign that says "Forward Red keep to the right; Backward Blue keep to the left." Yeah, it's not the real split but since there is the sign there with 2 paths people obviosly assume it is, just to end up getting back in the same line before the split, I think they should take that little sign out, and garbadge can the other path so that people split at the actual split, avoid lots of confusion and peeved guests.

4. Iron Wolf's queue:
Not bad but ever since FastLane came there has been no space for a front row line, so either one- all guests wait for front row, or 2- no guests wait for front row. So add another rail on that staircase for front row.

5. Gotham City communications network has indicated some danger:
Put some fans or something in the emergency drain tunnell!! During summer I swear its over 100 degrees in there.

6. Viper station:
Good station, well themed, but now since the load times may be getting slower they should put some switchbacks at the front of the station to the airgates so people know what their waiting for, personally I dont like being stuck in a moshpit of people.

7. Guest confusion, you guessed it, Déjà Vu:
I personally really like when they use a grouper even though it's not really that significant, as for the 1A 1B seating, people forget that they are BOTH front rows of the train (well at least I consider them both cause the unobstructed views). When people line up for 1A or 1B there should be a sign that has something like ROW 1A (arrow down), ROW 1B (arrow down) to make it more clear.

Well thats just what I think SFGAm could do to improve the experience a little, nothing major, and believe me, most parks could do a lot more that whats stated above. If you can think of anything add to my list.

I know that its difficult to fix, but when it rains, there are an awful lot of low spots in the pavement.

There is gum on the ground through out the park, especially in ride lines and stations. They should do something to fix that.

#7 would be nice and really help speed up loading with Deja Vu. Unfortunally then row 1B would always have a line, instead of being empty like it usually is.

Id like to see fresh paint on all the handrailings and such like you see at Cedar Fair and Disney Parks. I was looking at my Knotts Berry Farm photos the other day and noticed how nicely painted and bright everything looked.

They should have people going around and doing touchup paint jobs like Cedar Fair and Disney Parks do during the night. Fresh paint really would brighten up the park.

Good luck, you ever tried to get a broom through a que line on a busy day? People tend to clump and make it very difficult to sweep. Most stuff (Barring the occasional puke puddle) gets kicked off to the side by the stampede of feet.

5. Gotham City communications network has indicated some danger:

I've never noticed this. It can get warm but not too hot. Getting in the shade is a welcomed experience for me most of the time. (Isn't the station lightly airconditoned? Or am I not thinking).

6. Viper station:

Damn straight. The station chaos often keeps me off that ride at peak times on a hot day. Nothing like waiting through a 30 min que only to wait 45 min in the station. Demoralizing.

ROTFLMAO!

I'll throw some out there.
1. Mow the overflow lot
2. Clean the OTSR's every now and again w/ a disinfectant. (Ride on a hot day after a big sweaty guy just rode...you'll know what I'm talking about)
3. Make it easier to tell guests that the far right 2 lanes for parking are only open. I always see people trying to merge at the last min.

Ive never really had a problem with heat in Batman's tunnel, it's usually not that bad. However on some days it really smells like crap in there and fans to move that smell out of there would be nice.

I think they should replace some of the TV's (or all the TV's who really watches them anymore anyhow..it's just commercials now basically) with some of those fan mister's CP and SFMM have. They could help with the heat in everyline.

Haha! Thats true, since most people know that they are getting recoreded now, no one hardly does stuff anymore.

I know this may sound like a stupid idea but they should get more security to check the lines and stuff to make sure people don't cut in line. People always cut in front of me when I'm there and it just annoys the crap out of me.

Smoking really bugs me. I was waiting in line for DejaVu when someone was smoking. There wasn't too many people in line because it had broken down, but at the beginning of the switchbacks at the top of the stairs, someone was smoking. The ride op kindly asked her to not smoke in the line. She stopped, but within 5 minutes she was smoking again! She ended up smoking 3 times while I was in line, then I left. I've also had bad experiences with this on the Demon, but luckily that line moves fast. I really don't enjoy coming to the park to inhale other people's smoke!

Putting switchbacks in all the queues almost all the way up to the tracks would help a lot, especially Viper. Disney's Rock 'N Roller Coaster has switchbacks pretty much all the way up to the tracks. The only problem with this is that the individual row lines my overflow into the switchbacks and cause confusion. If people would only spread out a little more when lining up, it would be a little bit easier to see which lines are the shortest. It's not like you're going to have to wait any longer anyway. I always wait at least 1 or 2 train cycles where the main queue line splits to the different rows, so that there's not as much chaos.

They should take out that first sign on American Eagle. They could just make the actual split wider and run a rail all the way down, so the actual split would be where the first sign is now, but I think its better have as much of the queue a combined line for both tracks as much as possible, to help even out wait times.

It would be nice if they did something to the Iron Wolf queue. Make the stairs wider or something, so that there is a designated front row line. Another problem is with Raging Bull. No one really seems to stay on the correct side of the yellow line. I just cut in front of them if they're not, since technically they aren't waiting in the line I'm in. They don't really seem to notice they're in the wrong line until I do that and they notice the sign.

I actually would prefer a different method than misters for cooling down the queue lines. All they'd do is create puddles in some lines (can you say Chubasco when it rains?). No one wants to stand in line, only to have the obnouxious guest behind them stomping in water to attract attention.

One question: What does OTSR stand for? I've figured out all the other initials but that one. Thanks!

I would love that to happen. I mostly stay away from this ride for its station unless its a small crowd in line, and there is no line.

Also, the exit for Viper is way to long (i think). It seems like your walking forever then you (sometimes) have to go in a store to get out.

I don't really mind the Viper exit. There's not much you could do about that, except:

a) move the station (very unlikely)
or b) move the exit to near the entrance of Southwest Territory, near the entrance to Viper, but you'd have to walk farther anyway to get to the rest of Southwest Territory

I often see people use the "Emergency Exit" after coming out of Ricochet to avoid going through the arcade. I don't mind going through the store after Viper, since it's very small and you end up walking pretty much right alongside it anyway if you don't go through it. But the arcade after Ricochet just takes you way out of your way.

I think your forgetting that there is a good reason that some rides let out in gift shops or arcades ;).

I say they should limit the amount of people in Viper's station or add switchbacks. It's always damn crowded in there. I'm guessing there's about 19 people per square inch during the summer.

I've seen Viper on some days where they have an employee controlling how many people enter the station....I think they should do that all the time. Do they always have the misters at CP on because the times that i went, they were off.

The TV's need to be replaced and/or repaired. Most of them you cannot hear the TV and the TV just plays some Commercials and Music Videos. They should put cartoons back.

Also, some re-paving needs to be done.

They also need to paint and/or repair the top of those buildings. They look so horrible when you go a top of sky track tower.

LOL, you just answered your own question. If they wern't on then they don't always run them. When did you go? I take it they would run them in the heat of July/August but not on cool June days.

I would add a Q-Bot system to free up more ride-opps for under staffed days, allowing: Deja Vu to be open more, allowing a ride opp to controll, viper, and then you dont have to hire as many ride-opps so you can hire some painters.
