FParker185 wrote:The chains come in a bunch of different sizes, usually the longer the chain the bigger it is, but it ranges from about 15 pounds per foot on kiddy coasters up to about 60 lbs per foot of chain. Stuff like Leviathan may be even heavier, or a much stronger and lighter alloy.

At SFMM in the sky tower they have pieces of lift chain as an exhibit, they have a couple links of Goliath Lift Chain that most people can't even pick up.

Would you multiply X-Flight's lift height by two since all lifts wrap around again? If you do 240ft x 60 lbs it comes out to an estimated 14,500 lbs of chain.

EDIT: I didn't factor in the actual length of the lift since I'm not sure how long it is. I only did the actual height of the drop and I also didn't include the lift section at the top before the inverted drop.

I'm sure X Flights chain is in the lower middle end of the spectrum, I'd be surprised if it topped 35lbs/foot. Also with the station being 15-20 feet in the air, the actual lift is only around 100 feet.

^^ You would need to factor in the lift hill angle too. Chain length is the c side (hypotenuse) of a triangle times about 2 for the chain wrap around.

^ Hearing about the trains makes me even more surprised how slow they seem to be working on getting the station and storage tracks enclosed.

From my understanding, Xtreme pass holders have ERT from 9-10am on May 12th, then after 10am its open to all season pass holders. May 15th is the public opening.

^ May 16th is the public opening. The ride can't be open to the public on a day when the park is not open to the public.

Trains will show up on the track? or at the park? cause they've been at the park for the better part of 2 weeks or so now.

im concerned that the construction for the control tower and hangar have not even started yet. We have about a month and a half to go before opening and they have yet to be started, the station is no where near completed, the pathways are no where near completed and what about the entrance? They need to pick up the pace a little bit here folks!

^ I know where you are going with this lol. I actually just became more interested in watching stuff like this over the past few years. However from the sound of it....Great America does not have a very good track record of completing scenery for their rides. From my understanding Raging Bull was supposed to have some similar elements.

I was just making a note that im concerned that they havent started it yet, and that maybe it wont get done.
I really do hope they follow through and do it though.

In the next year or two, now that we have new management, I think it would be awesome to see them go back and complete the plans they had for Raging Bull too. That ride is still the most popular ride at the park, and frankly its queue could use a makeover as well. How sick would that be? They could turn that gravel pit under the ride into something a little nicer, re-work the queue, and build the buildings that were originally designed. If properly done correctly, It could completely change that ride experience.

To be honest, I've gotten nervous a few times while on the stairs heading up to the station. Those steps are so rotted and flimsy. I would not want to jump up and down on them!

^ I have noticed the same thing, Plus they look absolutely terrible. They have been painted over so many times its rediculous, plus they hand rails are so worn down, that last summer I got slivers numerous times from using them. I'm just saying........maybe upgrading Raging Bull wouldnt be a bad idea for next summer.

^It definitely looks like it. It appears that the roof might be one of the last things they will finish up on the station. Wasn't the gates one of the last things they added to Superman?
