Not to mention swarm has a trim at the end of the dive loop. I hope ours ain't like that.
I scoured the layout for a trim brake, but it doesn't look like it will have one. I didn't notice any track sections with holes on the spine*, but I haven't really been keeping up with construction. I thought it might have been after the immelman because it was hard to get a clear view of that section, but it doesn't appear to be there based on recent pictures. That would make X-Flight the lone wingrider without one. Encouraging, until you remember that Superman: Ultimate Fluff doesn't have one either. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

As for the video, I think they guy made a mistake and forgot to say xtreme before season pass. But who knows.
Six Flags Great America doesn't seem to communicate well, and will invariably piss people off thinking that it's open on the 5th, or something else...
I think X-Treme Pass holders get to ride it an hour early then when the park opens at 10, both X-treme and regular season pass holders will be able to ride it. Personally I like it. It they advertise it in any way on their FB page and website it could interest people to buy a season pass. It won't hurt the public to wait a couple days if they have a fair warning that it won't be open to them ahead of time.

From what I heard a while back ago, the weekend of the 12th is a preview weekend for Season Passholders in order to test the ride out and how they are going setup the line for the ride and boarding process. They are telling the General Public that the ride will be open by Memorial day weekend in order to give them time to work out the bugs before the mass crowds come.

Honestly, if this was true about what the park is doing, that is one of most idiotic things a park could do. First off, they aren't even opening the ride on opening day. Secondly, again if this is true they open it for one day, and than say sorry after that one day you can't ride it till Memorial Day because the park is too stupid to figure out how the line is going to work. If the park bought one of these rides, you think they would be smart enough to send Great America people to the park that already had one to see how it's run. Thirdly, why would the park sacrifice multiple weeks of non advertisement for a new ride. If the ride has past inspection, and the work is done, open it first day to the public already. I know as of this moment everything is NOT done, but I don't see why it wouldn't be finished by opening day. They have more than a month to finish everything.
And than if attendance is poor towards the beginning of the season, the big wigs really wonder why it is so. Barely any shows, no waterpark (for a good reason), and than who knows if the new ride is going to be open. Than, the date gets pushed forward more and more for the opening day.

So far, the only wing riders that are open are in Europe. Sending ride ops to England or Italy would be too expensive. I know that Wild Eagle opens tomorrow so that wouldn't be a bad idea to send a few ride ops to tennessee so they can get an idea of how the ride should be run.. just my thoughts.
This shouldn't be that complicated. I was thinking the same thing about Wild Eagle too. I really want to ride this thing before the crowds start on Memorial weekend without going to the media day.
I haven't read through this entire topic, but what I am gathering is that the ride and park will be open, but the new ride will only be open for pass holders? I could only imagine how angry this would make the non-passholder guests. Seems a bit strange, perhaps I am reading it wrong.

The only thing that is for sure that has been announced is that there is Exclusive Ride Time at 9:00 am to 10:00 am for Xtreme Pass holders on 5/12/12.
Other then that, that is it. Nothing else has been officially announced from what I understand.

No, there would be holes.
On a positive note, Wild Eagle looks like it kicks all sorts of ass. Many of the reviews I've read make note of how excellent the first drop is, some expressed surprise at some of the forces found over the course of the layout. We won't have the amazing first drop with X-Flight, but I'm hopeful some forces were sprinkled in here and there.

^ Just because Swarm and Raptor use the old style friction trim brakes doesn't mean X-Flight would. The magnetic trim brakes are brand new. So far, I've only seen them on Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland.
I could see if maybe a wingrider built sometime down the line would incorporate changes like that, but find it hard believe that a near clone of Swarm designed at the same time and built during the same year would use different technology.
Agreed, X flight would use the same systems as swarm. I personally havent followed Swarm or X Flight very much, but Shambhala has the magnetic brakes and I believe OzIris may as well, figured B&M would use the same systems across all their ride platforms. My bad. That would be one good thing with X Flight though if it ended up having no trims, though that's pretty unlikely.

X-Flight actually does have one of the new magnetic trims in the brake run. The first one at the very beginning of the brakes is an old static magnetic brake that is always on. The second one though is like the ones used as trims on Leviathan.
I don't know if this impacts the use of Trims or not (because I'm not a physics guru) but X-Raptor, Swarm, and Wild Eagle all have 7 Car Trains while X-Flight has 8. An extra row is added weight for the train which could impact the outcome for trims/no trims, but I have no clue how much of a factor that actually is.
Unless they wait until testing, wouldn't B&M have designed it into their plans if they were ultimately looking for a trim on the ride course? So essentially, you would have to look for/find the "holes" along the ride course if that option existed. But as we know with S:UF, just because the place to put trims exists, it doesn't mean they are a for sure thing.
This is kind of random but since they installed the chain lift I was wondering how much does that weigh? I would imagine the chain lifts would be kind of heavy.
The chains come in a bunch of different sizes, usually the longer the chain the bigger it is, but it ranges from about 15 pounds per foot on kiddy coasters up to about 60 lbs per foot of chain. Stuff like Leviathan may be even heavier, or a much stronger and lighter alloy.
At SFMM in the sky tower they have pieces of lift chain as an exhibit, they have a couple links of Goliath Lift Chain that most people can't even pick up.
