X-Flight new for 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby chester016 on March 12th, 2012, 1:14 pm
This is true. At least I wont have to listen to that garbage anymore. Idk, maybe im old fashioned. Dont get me wrong, I am absolutely psyched for X-flight, Im just going to miss the feel of that area that hasnt changed since the park opened. Its going to have a different feel and will be a MUCH busier area.

Anyone want to start a rumor for why the webcam was moved away from the ride? Top-secret equipment being installed? A park staff guy wanted to see March 12's rain storm?

Is it really that big of a deal? We've been staring at the same things for two weeks anyways.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2.

No It's not really a "big deal". But if they put a webcam up, we should be able to watch what is going on. Some of us on here like to watch.

Just because it looks like they are doing nothing, doesn't mean that. Just be happy they even do that for us and be happy the coaster will be open in 2 months. the park doesn't have to provide a web cam, but they do it as courtesy for fans of the park.

tbh, I was more intrigued by the move itself, and less by the inability to see activity.

^ me.

But in all seriousness, I can't wait for this whole thing to happen! I already got my season pass (the X-Pass looks like a waste of money, my apologies) so I think I may just have to ride this a few more times than usual this year :D!

Regarding the "Forsaken Camera Move", I think it's actually quite nice. I wasn't enjoying seeing the Gravity Roll for the past 2 weeks. The only disappointment for me is that, since it's dusk right now, you can't see much of anything...
Last Visit, American Eagle BACKWARDS 5 times in a row right before the park closed. I cannot WAIT to go back for Fright Fest!

I really am not disappointed with the webcam. think about it other parks give photo updates maybe once a month and only give out two or three photos at a time. To have a webcam on site 24/7 is one of those gifts that you get that you shouldn't complain about because if you do they (being 6 flags) won't do it again and then we are stuck with ground view pictures. Also the track is complete circuit by now and we get trains on in a few weeks. That is going to be awesome. Looking at the webcam image now just blows me away how really far out Eagle goes I mean holy crap the cam is near the "SouthiCounty" border and goes out near the water park and back. Does it seem like the southwest amphitheater looks like its right on top of demon lol. That aerial view of Xflight that got posted a while back is gorgeous and I love putting them in my album. You can never have to many photos of a ride take as many as you can

They have started to place the last 2 track pieces in. due to the angle of the camera you can't see the second one, but I am sure that they both will be placed today!!

If you look at the recent aerial pictures you can clearly see that Demon's rails are still black not red.

In other slightly relevant news, Apocawolf's loop has been completed. Actually looks kinda cool without the station and trees in the way...

I'm hoping they paint those supports. Otherwise, who thought of that color scheme?

The color scheme kind of looks like Screams at SFMM. Also they're adding spiral staircases along the brake run of X- Flight

Initial reviews of Swarm aren't too encouraging. They read similarly to X-Raptor's regarding the lack of forces, and abundance of lame. Looks like the solution to the comfort issues Arrow and Intamin ran into is to simply design any forces out of the layout. Really unfortunate to hear. Knowing this, I'm slightly more interested (than I was) in how Dollywood's design rides, seeing as it is the one most unlike the other three.

Let me guess. You read these reviews from the tools over at Theme Park Review? I don't think anyone here thought X-Flight was going to be a high forceful experience. The lift and drop of Wild Eagle is exactly like X=Raptors. Also , Wild Eagle has the layout of alot of other Beemers. At least Swarm and X-Flight have an inversion on the first drop.

Supports at SFA will be painted black before it opens according tot he company handling the erection.

Also this is the only review I've read of Swarm, and it sounds like a very "PR" way of calling the ride just ok while the themeing sounds really good.

It seems B&M just wants all its wing coasters to simply last a long time before beating themselves into a pulp like Iron Wolf did. Every time I think of the cantilever car design, I immediately imagine increased instability and a quickly vanishing smoothness. But then, the 4Ds' cars are cantilevers and I never hear any extreme roughness issues even though they're going like 80/90mph. Would a cantilever cause a rough ride sooner? I would love to go extreme with the wing rider design. To be honest, these are more appealing to me than the 4D concept. However, it seems B&M is fully unwilling to commit to high forces as of yet.

Will we see one eventually?

(oh yeah, I definitely gotta check out Wolf again before the train repairs wear off, it's looking so good!)
