Okay, i have been browsing the forums lately, and i noticed some people "Praying for a Job at Six Flags This Summer" the question i have is why? I mean unless Mcdonald's isnt hiring anyone ever again why would you want to work at Six Flags? Okay, i understand the idea of maybe, and i say this lightly maybe, getting the chance to ride op, okay i can see that but anything else besides that? Why the hell would you want to work there?
Besides that what about the weather?,Driving (If you live as far away as i do why would you want to do that?) The hours arent exactly the best either.
And remember your working, theres no time to ride coasters etc etc.
P.S. K-mart,Taco Bell,Mcdonald's,Sears,Wal-Mart,Osco,Aldi and a slew of others(Except Best Buy ) are hiring why not select them instead?
P.S, Try to give a little bit of insite as to why you want to work at GA?
When I was younger me and my buddy dreamed about working there. We loved going there and the thought of hearing the music and the clicking off the coasters and the screams of the guests turned us on to the idea. If we didn't live so far away we would have done it, just think how many people can say that they worked at Great America. It would make one great conversion peice.
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!
Because K-Marts are hard to find, Taco Bell and McDonalds-enough said, Sears you have to dress up, Wal-Mart can get trashy, Osco and Aldi are ok but I couldnt stock food all day. But think, you will deal with the same people who complain all day at the park at these other places. So it isnt so different.
For some of these people on here like Holydumb they spend 5 out of 7 days a week there. Why not get paid to be at the park.
This way they can really learn how the rides operate and not assume (and don't post about them). And like Chitown said, it is a summer job and that is all it is. It is a place to gain great customer service skills from. I worked there 2 years ago and it wasn't so bad.
I'd only be working part time....and I dont want to be ride op or anything like that. I want to work in entertainment, which by the way I love to perform, which would be a great expierence for me and I think I'd have a lot of fun!

You meet so many people, lifetime freindships, being outside in the fresh air. I don't want to be cooped up in some store all summer. We do that the other half of the year because its too cold. A job at the park provides satisfaction when you get a guest compliment as well.
Living far away? They have busing and housing opportunities. Just cause you live far away doesn't mean you cant work there. Quit making assumptions Galvan.
What about the weather? Rain never hurt anyone. And I'd give anything to be in 85 degree heat as opposed to this -22 wind chill crap.
So what if you cant ride while you work. Most of us get so sick of the rides we tend not to care. We get our time when we want to cause we get in the park for free.
Galvan, instead of bashing the job like you just did, why don't you tell us why you chose where you work, hmmmmm??

Umm, that's 4 words bub.
I don't think I would ever want to work there because I would get sick of it. I work in a restaraunt and eating out is boring. Every time I go to work I get a restaraunt meal and it gets old fast.
If everytime I went to Great America I had to pick up trash, it would no longer be fun. Going there on your day's off would be the work enviroment. You would walk through the park and know that your managers might be watching you or looking and seeing trash and feeling obligated to pick it up.
I once worked at a Go-kart track for a summer. It was more boring than god and it was horrible work. Even now, I don't go to my former work place (even though it had an arcade, batting cages, gokarts, and rollerskating) because it just isn't fun. I've been on gokarts 2 times since leaving in Sept 2001.
I also enjoy the unknown of the park. Working and knowing how everything worked would take some of the mistery away. To me, there will always be a sense of mistery of what is over the next bunny hill. Removing that mistery would totally ruin the park experience for me.
And it bothers you Galvan how? If someone is that interested in working there, then so be it?
I mean, it's not anybodys intention here to make that the job for their life! Of course, I'm certinaly not. I know its a place I can work, where it is outdoors and I know the pros and cons of working there. Sure, I'll have to take the bus there everyday if I get a job, but I don't care, and you shouldn't either.
I wanna work there because I love Six Flags Great America, and I wanna make the park a better place. I know almost all the employees and have a fun time with them. If I wouldnt be working I would be at the park anyway. So I might as well get paid even though I am in no way doing it for the money. For me it will be my first job, I just wanna have fun. I cant think of a more fun place that I would rather be than at Six Flags Great America.
I am not bashing Working at Six Flags at all, im just rasing a conversation about why people are "praying to work there"
And to slightly move off topic, I work at Best Buy because I found electronics very very interesting, i have as you said developed lifetime friendships and i love what i do, But i dont see standing out in the weather something "fun." sorry if im old fashioned.
I always thought working as a coaster op would be fun. You always see the ops for Raging Bull and Viper laughing and joking as they run down the train and check retraints, then give the thumbs up as they hold down the green button. But then I thought about it, what if you're stuck doing something like Fiddler's Fling where it's a small enough ride that you'd usually be by yourself, but not small enough (like a kiddie ride) that you can talk to guests. Or what if you're stuck operating Batman for the day? Sure, 10 minutes of waiting in line is okay, but being in there for too long would drive me nuts!

Gotta go with Whizzer, the only 'fun to op' coaster with manual spiels .
Well theoretically your doing the same thing all day, every day, which I suppose can get boring (especially at a ride where all you do is open airgates, close airgates, check, enable), but having modivation (being better than other crews with the cow) would make me go faster.
