X-Flight new for 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby DejaVu2001 on November 16th, 2011, 7:03 pm
Whoever figured it out this time got a few good shots. One to the left and one to the right of X-Flight. The left side showed clearly that train tracks have been removed and that there is a footer between the old train tracks and Demon's drop into the corkscrew. The right side showed that the stage is still there, but may have been moved closer to Skeeball. Also saw an overview of KIDZOPOLIS, a shot of Bull and Drop, and a shot looking straight down at the Raceway garage

How are you able to move the webcam?

I have no idea. I had nothing to do with it, I just watched. And anyone that has figured it out should not post it here.

I think all it takes is arrow buttons in certain situations.

If anyone is in a rush and just want to get a quick snapshot of the current progress without loading up the Java plug-in on the Six Flags website can just head over to http://166.241.21.24/-wvhttp-01-/GetOneShot.

It simply displays the most recent image captured by the webcam. Not terribly useful, but I guess you could bookmark it or something and click on it whenever you feel like it without the hassle of the rest of the site.

The below image is DYNAMIC (it is simply a UBBC image tag with the http://166.241.21.24/-wvhttp-01-/GetOneShot URL inside), so each time you load this forum page, the image should change to reflect the latest captured image.

Just an FYI - I remember the days when this would be an insta-ban. For future reference, it's probably not the best idea to be doing this (and especially posting about it here after) and I'd imagine if enough people mess with it, Six Flags might just take it down. That would suck.

I wonder if the park bans for "hacking" too? We'll find out!

Moving the the camera requires absolutely no hacking, just a desktop based webcam viewer.

Six Flags failed to turn off control of the camera by the public. It is a simple fix.

They should open it up for anyone to move (without hacking). Its fun to do and draws interest to people to watch and interact. Easy advertisement. Wisc Summer-fest had a few you can move. It pulled me to their site daily, in turn drew a page hit from me daily. More exposure is good thing.

^A lot of people might be fighting over it though causing nothing but constant movement and no focus on the actual construction. My city's water park, Magic Waters, had something like that. They had a camera on top of the water coaster called Splash Blaster and you could control it by clicking arrows. They took it down a couple years ago I believe.

The system Six Flags uses has a queue and each person gets access for 5 minutes, so that would not be a big issue.

Six Flags or the webcam company could easily make restrictions on control. Perhaps lock the camera during the bright daytime hours, and then unlock it during evening/night/morning, or only allow control every half hour or something during these night hours.

The only reason they would take it down is if they're too lazy to do some simple editing. I highly doubt that no one at Six Flags knows how to do this.

And I apologize for initially posting about the camera movement. I stumbled upon the ability accidentally. The screenshot image link I posted doesn't affect the camera at all, it just grabs the latest image.

CoasterBGW: isn't that a standard practice? The queue doesn't prevent the camera from moving constantly. The idea is to focus on the construction. That's why I suggested that it be locked during the bright daylight hours, and limiting user-control to the sunrise/sunset/nighttime hours.

even starting early, SFGAm looks like quite the slacker, as of Friday both Wild Eagle and Swarm are complete, we got like 3 footers in the ground :)

3? look again closely. More like ten, at least.

SFGAm isn't slacking. Dollywood and Thorpe Park are overachievers.

my bad, 10 footers rather than 2 fully completed rides. Doesn't seem so bad anymore.

As far as Dollywood goes, due to the warmer climate, they open at the end of March 2012 and Thorpe park states they open March 15th 2012. They have at least a good month before we open for 2012 and X-Flight has not been confirmed to open on opening day. They could have the coaster up tomorrow, it is still months away from anyone riding them.

^ That's exactly why I say Thorpe Park and Dollywood are overachievers, they aren't opening until March and both those rides probably could open mid-January at the rate they're going. Someone should tell them you don't get extra credit for finishing 2 months early when the park is still closed.

I don't even care ours is opening last. I just can't wait to ride it! Wild Eagle looks good too, for different reasons. Might have to go to DW someday.

I really like how X-Flight will be in such close proximity to Demon, and even American Eagle. I was thinking that I could ride X-Flight first thing so as to minimize the wait (or arrive at the park 2 hours beforehand and make the wait SEEM short), and then just ride Demon over and over and over trying to catch the X-Flighters as they come down the drop and yell at them or something. And of course to admire the new ride from a distance without standing in line for 10 hours.

I'd also have to make sure I hit American Eagle and Raging Bull for some great relaxing overhead shots, but I think Demon would provide the most exciting view of all the action.

Just before heading onto corkscrews of Demon gives you a really good view of the spot. It was so weird not having any trees in front of you at that part of the ride during Fright Fest.

When the trees were stil there i never saw the old SWF. I didnt even realize it was that close. But once they were gone i would ride demon just to get a quick view of the entire construction zone.
