Dollywood is almost done with their Wing Rider and we're yet to go vertical...
Um. Dollywood opens in March. SFGAm opens in May. And Dollywood is finished WAY earlier than they need to be. X-Flight will be open on SFGAm's opening day. Trust me.
^I'm all with you when saying that X-Flight will open with the park but come on, this is Six Flags were talking about. The park has even said they should have X-Flight up and running by Memorail Day Weekend according to their Facebook page.
^ I know the park is saying Memorial Day, but looking at how far along construction is, I think they're being overly safe with that estimate. The site is basically clear. At this point in 2002, ShockWave's entire lift hill support structure, part of the first drop, and the first loop were still standing, and Superman opened on opening day May 3rd, 2003.

I remember all that except for the timeline! Omg I was in 8th grade when they announced it, I sadly know this because I kept my Jay Stream Middle School planner that was decorated with SUF stuff haha ANYWAY I remember just lookin at Shockwave like wtf cause it was a great ride, but I had never been on anything like SUF so I was excited to see the turnout.
Now seein that SUF is structurally around the same size of Xflight (were not lookin at construction differences from BTR to RB here) then I could see it opening with the park which would obv be great!!
I still don't see Wild Eagle taking advantage of the trains. You could apply that same exact layout to a floorless coaster and almost get the same feel.
One of the reasons SUF went up so quickly was the ability to erect it with cranes in an empty, easily accessible parking lot. X Flight might prove more difficult. While B&Ms typically go up fast, with only one opperating wing rider in the world, there could be glitches to overcome. We also have scenery that Wild Eagle doesn't and harsher weather during our construction window. Dollywood was smart to get the structure up fast in the Fall than to risk mountain snows delaying it later.
Wild Eagle has better foliage in the area, but that's about it. X-Flight wins easy because of scenery and better elements. And SFGAm hasn't had a new ride ready by opening day since 2007. It would be nice to have that change in 2012.
The only thing to worry about in the winter is the wind and EXCESSIVE Snow. Pouring Concrete in winter isn't a good idea, as long as they can get that done before winter really kicks in, they should be perfectly fine. If we get another Snowpocalypse like last year, I can see delays.
"I've been told that some part of every wish will be heard but lately I lost sight of the truth in those words."
It's a fine idea to place concrete in driving snow and or extreme cold if it's done right. I worked on a construction site for a few years in a trailer park where they would put down pads for new trailers, 50 feet long 20 feet wide and 14 inches thick, they put down several when it was well below zero, after they're done, they'd throw the insulated tarps over and everything sets up just fine with no cracking or anything like that.
Also X-flights construction site is equally accessible as Supermans. After Shockwave demo was complete they tore up all the asphalt, curbs and whatnot and put down dirt. It looked just about identical to how X-Flights site looked in closing day and how it probably looks now.

I agree that Wild Eagle's layout doesn't have much of a novelty feel, but the fact that on a wing rider there's no longer ANYTHING above or below you could really make almost any ride element feel exciting. You might be afraid for your feet on a floorless, but the wing rider combines the best of the floorless/traditional hyper with the inverted. This alone I think brings such a high visual appeal that you'd still have a cool ride with less-than-novel elements.
Sitting outside the the track definitely feels more exhilerating than sitting over it. There is such a freedom of openness on the outside seats of griffon. You feel more like you are flying. For me it's a thrilling feeling on X2 when the train turns vertical, like Xflight will through the keyhole. I feel totally out of control high above the ground on both these rides. That feature and the drop make me look more forward to Xflight.
IDK about that, i'd put X Flight around 4 or 5 on that list. I think its needless to say Southern California will be the hotspot for new theme park awesomeness in 2012.

I've said this before, but Jim Reid Anderson and Al Weber probably approached Hank Salemi and said "Chang for 2011 or X-Flight in 2012". Though Six Flags had probably already was in talks with B&M.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2. Coaster Count: 167 (41 Wood, 125 Steel) @Coaster_Cole on Twitter
I got my first snow today in Plainfield. Was light and didn't stay on the ground but it was weird seeing how fast winter is approaching. But if they start laying down footers, will we be able to tell at all? They might post some pics on Facebook. But we cant get in the park so the only progress we can see from outside the park is when they go vertical.

My parents were in Chicago yesterday and said it was lightly raining where here in Rockford it was snowing pretty decent. Today we didn't really get any snow but I heard over towards Chicago it did. Weird how things change so fast. Anyways, I hope they post some updates soon on their FB page!
