Iron Wolf Last Rides/Removal Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I'm pretty well sold on the idea that Iron Wolf is as good as gone.

However I just got back from Scandinavia and rode 2 Zac Spins so I know first hand.. Even the large model is still very short, they really aren't all that great, they are fun and all, at least when they dont have you in pain, but still not really spectacular, and the capacity is absolutely terrible. It would be a disaster if SFGAm were to install one, it'd be Deja Vu all over again.

Wow it's getting pretty clear that WOLF will be howling at SFGA next year.

I'm glad my son was finally tall enough to ride it this year. It was the first time on the ride in many years for me, and although it was a little rough, I didn't feel it was as bad as some people make it out to be. Although it is always sad to see a coaster I grew up riding go, if it allows the park to provide us with a new thrill, while also providing a new thrill to a different park, I'm all for it! :)

That application probably sealed the deal. It will be missed by me as far as it always being there even before I was born, but I'm all for taking it out to have it replaced by a better attraction. I liked the looks and noise of it howling through the woods, but it gets harder to ride for me each year. Honestly, I wouldn't care what coaster we get as long as it's more thrill than family and it has at least the slightest bit of theme to it. That's if we even get a coaster.

I knew Iron Wolf would be the first to leave before Demon and Whzzer I just did not think it would be so soon. I am pleasantly surprised. But why would SFA get excited over a 21 year old stand up with a bad reputation like Wolf? And we thought Chang was overrated!

Considering the last major attraction for them was Batwing in 2001, I think anything for them is reason to celebrate. I'm also going out on a limb and will assume that the average person won't know the ride is 21 years old either....it isn't the first time something like this has ever happened.

IW is a good fit for a park like SFA that is far overdue for some kind of large capital improvement to bring people through the gates again.

The most important part of all of this, Whizzer outlives coaster number 3 since it's removal was announced 2002.

I see this as a win for both parks..SFA gets our junk and we have a spot for a new attraction, and they get a new coaster. Most likely one that's been rehabbed with B&M trains and is a different ride as a result.

I'd rather have a rehabbed Iron Wolf with new trains and paint then a Zacspin or Eurofighter. Just saying...

I didn't have the experience of riding Iron Wolf for the first time until 2001, and I absolutely loved it then!! It was actually my second favorite coaster in the park back then, right after Raging Bull. I was 16 years old then, now I'm 26 and that ride just kills me. I always make sure to ride it, but only once per visit.

I agree with Cole that I would rather see IW rehabbed with new trains before seeing it removed and replaced with something mediocre, but oh well. Sad to see any coaster go, regardless of whether it's a favorite or not. I will miss it. :(
Finally Coaster Season!!

I don't get how this is a win for SFA. That park has some pretty awesome coasters: Superman Ride of Steel, Jokers Jynx, Wild One, Batwing, even Roar I thought was pretty good even with the PTC trains. Iron Wolf isn't going to be one of the better rides in that park and probably won't be one of the most popular coasters there for long. Plus it's not like they are gaining a high capacity coaster, with the exception of Batwing it's still probably going to be one of the lowest capacity coasters in the park (not that it really matters that much at SFA).

If Wolf does get new trains, theme and color, maybe it could work out well. Heck Chang I mean Green Lantern has all but become a smash at Great Adventure and it is a very simple stand up from B&M that was made back in 1997. Does it matter to the gp? Nope.

Also take into consideration that Chang is a much better ride to most people.

SFA might get an attendance increase this year, but it will do nothing for them down the road. They probably figure that since it's a cheap addition the short term attendance boost will be worth the long term neglect of real additions to the park, which is sad because SFA has a huge market but no one wants to go there because the place sucks.

I don't know anything about the area that Six Flags America is in, but I'd like to point out that the permit application says "Mitchellville", while RCDB states Six Flags America is in "Upper Marlboro".

Is "Mitchellville" just the nearest 'big' city? Also, I can't find the web site for "Mitchellville", but I can find the site for "Upper Marlboro"

Does anyone know exactly which city Six Flags America is in, so we can confirm this for ourselves, instead of just trusting Screamscape?

I'm so sad this is happening! I love Iron Wolf and it has been my favorite coaster since I first went to the park. To this day I am the only one who gets off and rerides with my friends because it is just so much fun! Man, August 1st had better bring some happy news. If a Zacspin takes over Iron Wolf's spot, I am going to be pissed
Last Visit, American Eagle BACKWARDS 5 times in a row right before the park closed. I cannot WAIT to go back for Fright Fest!

Yes, Mitchellville, MD is on the map just northwest of the park. Just confirmed myself.

When I looked Largo and Mitchellville are adjacent. When I visited SFA last fall, I swear it was in Largo. The Largo town Center is the end of the subway line and was well within walking distance of the park. I never even heard of Mitchellville until this week. Perhaps there was some sort of zoning change. Upper Marlboro is 5 miles south.

Okay, but guys, what park would this permit be for other than SFA? Kings Island is located in either Mason, OH, or Kings Island, OH, depending on the source. SFGAm is referred to as being in Chicago by SF themselves in some sources. The permit has to be for SFA,
