2011 Park Changes

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CstrFan512 on June 9th, 2011, 11:11 am
I feel that this year has been a major one in terms of changes in the park. Not just with hurricane harbor and riptide bay, but with other rides to. So what changes at the park this year or that have carried over from other years do you like or dislike?

Nothing I can complain of right now...

Wait, replacing Deja Vu with BB. :x
The insaney high priced Flashpass system.
Long lines on a July summer day.
Obnoxious little kids and kids who are older acting like idiots.
People who break the rules on purpose, or risk their lives for a hat.

Need I go on?

You should really take our prices for the Flash Pass system for granted. Our park has one of the cheapest ones in the chain, especially compared to other flagship Six Flags parks like Over Texas, Great Adventure, and Magic Mountain.

^^I personally think the Flash Pass could be MORE expensive. I got one for Fright Fest last year and there were LINES to get in the flash pass entrances. Kinda loses the whole "skip the line" luster. Especially when I paid $100 to...hmm...wait in line.
I wanna say I like the "new" loose article policy. Its really nice to be able to drink from my souveneir cup while waiting in line on a hot day instead of buy overpriced sugar water...err...lemonade. But, said souveneir cup was, of course, stolen just an hour after purchase the other day. I remember riding Shockwave with my souveneir cup in its little belt holster, lmao!! Personally, I'd love to see the park offer a card or something for like 5 bucks where you can use the temporary lockers to your hearts content the whole day. But I guess thats what the full-day lockers are for :-/
I also miss the "wait time" boards. They may not have been entirely accurate, but they gave you a really, really good idea of what to prepare yourself for.
Missing Shockwave more and more every day.

^Its incidents like these that make me think that SFGAm needs to follow CP's thinking with the bins for each train. Things could still get stolen but it's a lot less common

I think the reason why sports bottles get stolen is because don't they have free refills, or something like that, or a certain amount for refills? I don't know. If they stopped that, they probably wouldn't get stolen.

Like
--Sky Trek Tower New Sign
--Superman has it's music in the line, but I think it should have it in the station too
--The props in Roaring Rapids cave are okay - something different
--No forced lockers for people even though I don't use them either way - with or without them
--For the Viper sign, I can understand why it's done. It's so people don't constantly ask where the heck is Viper? They go through Hurricane Harbor entrance, and think that's Viper. So, even though the sign doesn't look that great, it will help people out for the better hopefully.

Dislike
--Riptide Bay walking area / that Proslide slide, and the wavepool walking area now - It feels like I'm walking on pins within the walking area of Riptide Bay, and in the entire wavepool. The wavepool wasn't like this last year. What is there problem by doing that?? The Proslide new slide is lame. You are barely going back and forth in the funnels, and compared to Magic Waters one (that has one funnel called Typhoon Terror), this one is really, really boring!
--It might sound picky, but Superman was missing a tire in a station, and Batman the Ride had a motor that wasn't working going near the lifthill chain. I mean, can't they store extra motors, and tires? Instead of precautionary, it seems like they wait until something goes, and than order something.

I'm on the fence with the Dark Knight's pre-show video. I didn't care for the preshow video at all before, but if they put something else in that room like Batman cartoons or something in that order, I think the line experience would be better. As weird as it might sound, I rather be waiting more in the big room area than the black aluminum walls area. At least there's tvs, and more stuff to look at. This way, you have to wait until it gets more crowded, or you are going to be stuck in the aluminum walls area a lot more.

I liked the old flash pass system. You bought a card for $20.00 and you could skip the line 4 or 5 times. I realize the park is trying to make money, but the the prices are insane. $35.00 for the basic on that doesn't save any time to $85 for the top tier that gets you more rides.

Does anyone know how long the wait on the Platinum is? Say the line is an hour long, how much time do you save?

I'm not sure there's anything I'm like "WOW I'm glad they started this." Except for the single priced parking system this year, nothing really stands out.

When they first installed TV's in the queue lines, I thought it was the greatest idea in the world. They used to show full length cartoons. It made standing in line for the Shockwave much more bearable. It seemed like time flew by when you reached the station.

I dislike:
Line jumping teenagers. The ones that see their friends 3 queue lines ahead and decide to join them instead of their friends moving back to join them are the worst.

The vile (not just average foul) language I have to listen to in line.

Buccaneer Bay sitting in the middle of the park instead of in Hurricane Harbor where it belongs.

First off, it has been a loooong time since I've posted, so hello friends.

Second, I was at Island Of Adventure last week and they have a really smart locker system there. If you have a bag, you have to put it in the locker, but it's free for about a half hour longer than the wait/ride time. After that they start charging you for the time. Really easy and effective way to keep your things safe but not charge you for it.

Also went to Epcot for the first time since 3rd grade, needless to say Disney has the whole Flashpass thing pretty much perfect.

The Platinum Pass would get you a 6 minute wait for an hour long ride, as well as a re-ride (you don't even need to get your butt outta the seat!) WELL worth the money.

So if you do get that platinum pass and get a re-ride, you just stay in your seat or can you move to wherever you want on the car? Also, what do the people that are supposed to take your spot next, do? They just stay and wait till you get off after the re-ride? Im assuming the answers are obvious but I wanna make sure.

^^Same seat, you just flash the wristband while they're checking your restraints and they'll tell the people that are to ride in your spot next. Usually pisses people off, though.

Ah. Gotcha. Very good. I've had that happen to me. SO my other 2 friends went and got on while me and my friend got held back due to the 2 girls that had their passes. Makes sense.

This ticks me off as well. Reminds me of something that happened last year during Fright Fest. My daughter, and I were waiting to ride Revolution, when these three teenagers started cutting their way through the line, and I mean started going under the bars, to meet up with their friends that were just about ready to go on. Well, they got as far as the gentleman who was in front of us, and who happened to be a Marine. This guy was built like a brick house. He calmly told them "I think you should go back to the end of the line, and wait like everybody else, because your not cutting in front of us." The teenagers told their friends, "we'll wait for you to get off.", and heading back out of the line.
It's one of those "hell yeah" moments.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.

^The park does not stress that line jumping and cutting is not allowed which I think is why that happened. All you have to do is put your foot down and set some authority otherwise they'll just get kicked out if you complain which I dont think anyone would like to get kicked out of the park.
