1) The lagoon has started to be done (cannot tell how far they are since pictures were taken from so far away. 2) The 2 funnels are built, but not in their final location yet 3) other slide parts are being finished up on the ground so that once the area is prepped, they can position them in nearly completely sections
Here is a picture: This was taken from the Main entrance (right at the yellow gate (zoomed in 14x).
Thats funny! I was just down there early today seeing the two slide funnels as well! but unfortunitly, I did not have my camera with me to take a pic and post it on the site. Nice to see that work on the expansion is coming along nicely!
Im assuming thats picture was just taken today judging from the time and day the post was made (today) and also the weather as it is currently raining pretty much in the whole area. Thanks for the picture. Oh how I miss the park.
^ I hear you! I was standiung right next to the yellow gate to get a good view of the construction site! I wanted to jump right over the gate so bad and just run inside the park!!!!!!!!!!!
^^^That picture shows exactly what I meant when I said that the May 7th opening is most likely caused by riptide bay. The construction relies on the parking lot and the perimeter fence is only a temporary.

^ Wasn't a problem in 2005 when the park opened on April 30th (with buyouts the previous weekend) and still had construction fences and equipment in the parking lot until mid-June.

Hell yeah. Thats what I like to hear. I'm glad you're as passionate as me about the park. Thumbs up man!
They put the first funnel in position this week (2/25/2011). Though the picture is hard to see, it is right next to the Customer Service building. I could not get a shot without the light pole (with Bugs Bunny) in it.

I hope so, it would be better that way. In what looks to be a crayon-diagram it appears like STT's exit will be in the same place. But the midway doesn't extend passed the exit anymore, so one can only assume it's going back the way it was.

Yeah, you gotta assume the entrance will be back in it's old spot, unless of course the park is intentionally trying to lower ridership numbers in order to get rid of it and bring in a ferris wheel or something, though they just sunk a lot of money into STT for the repaint, so I'd say it's a safe bet that it's part of future plans.

I personally don't ever see them ever getting rid of sky trek tower. Sure it's not the most popular ride but it provides a great view of the park along with the surrounding area. It's also a great ride to go on on a hot summer days because it's ussually always air conditioned.
Actually, that pretty well shows it right there, doesn't show an entrance for Sky Trek on those plans/artwork, so I'm guessing it will go to the 1993 and earlier setup, where the Pictorium exit follows the current, but again narrow path, while picking up the Sky Trek exit along the way and dumping out on the midway.
Of course also in 2 months we will all know for sure.
And either way, I really hope they rehab the Sky Trek Tower sign, it used to look really nice, but it's really fallen into disrepair the past few years. I'd be nice if they keep it and give it some TLC rather the come up with something new, aka a sticker on plywood.

Just wait for April 30th. If you know anyone that goes to those private events, you can get the inside scoop. Unfortunately, this forum will not be seeing a pre-season trip report from me this year.....I'm not attending.

They really really need to make Sky Trek Tower really stand out to make it really visible to the public. I mean, that thing probably has to have one of the lowest ride counts if not, the lowest out of anything in the park. I mean whenever I go to the park, which is a decent number, I almost always forget it's there. I'm hoping they do something to attract a bigger crowd to Sky Trek Tower.
^My sarcasm detector is malfunctioning badly. That was sarcasm, right?
And for the sign, are you sure, I could swear I saw it last year, just to be sure I'm talking about the 15 or so foot tall one right at the entrance of the ride covered in non and barely-functional neon?
