No Coaster Con HUGE SFGAm Update

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby DejaVu2001 on January 15th, 2011, 9:02 pm
So today was No Coaster Con. Six Flags Great America made huge news today . . . . . . . . . BY NOT EVEN BEING THERE!!!!!

Thats right, a water park from Texas (Schletterbahn) made it, but the Theme Park only an hour north chose not to show up  Isn't this a basic function of public relations. Epic Fail. I really question our PR department right now. SFGAm completely blew off No Coaster Con and we're one of the few parks that hasn't had any Facebook updates since the park closed.

^I would have blown off no-coaster con. You would have ended up with nerd's asking why Chang left over and over followed by when the park will get a coaster.

The real question is why did Holiday World buy a new train for Voyage? When I spoke with the Gravity Group guys at IAAPA they said the Timberliners ran great on Voyage so it's a bit dissapointing they are still delayed.

^At this point it might be a race between the Voyage Timberliners and Flying Turns to open.

I think it is VERY BAD for SFGAm to not show up when there is a meeting of a group of coaster enthusiasts that holds special events in your park, especially when the meeting is held in your own neighborhood. If the company had any concern for the guests at this event , many who frequently visit SFGAM they could have easily sent a rep. to give a little speech, show a video and give something to raffle off and have the people at the meeting spread good cheer about the company. But a company that is so crappy in PR doesnt even understand this i guess.

^^ There was absolutely no news at No Coaster Con except for the Voyage train situation BP/19 mentioned with Holiday World ordering a new PTC train.

Six flags had nothing to show off, so I'm only slightly surprised they didn't show. Is it good pr to go yes. Are most of the people there going to go to the park anyway yes.

Holiday World did not buy a new train, they bought new cars as a backup to add to the Voyage (Raven only had 6 cars per train, Voyage 7) or for spare parts.
Yes, we've ordered some extra PTC cars ... since the Timberliners are still being tested (resuming here next month), we wanted to be sure to have all our bases covered for opening in the spring.

Thanks, Paula

Better to be safe than sorry. And as for Great America's no show, i'm agreeing with Monsterfan99 on this one.

It's true, from a PR standpoint coaster enthusiasts represent the smallest of publics, and the majority of people have no idea Chang was even on the docket for 2011. Why show up to please 100 coaster enthusiasts that have already chosen whether or not to visit your park? They know their presentation will fall on dead ears and that they will be grilled half the show about Chang. Sometimes crisis control means not showing up to the press conference and only issuing that written statement instead. 8)

They will be back next year, hopefully with better news.

Yuuuuuuuuup. Although, you should have seen me when I was on the computer and the news said "Six Flags GAm may get a new standup roller coaster for the 2011 year. From the now defunct Kentucky Kingdom site actually." I was like standing there in front of the tv gawking thinking...yeah. I knew something before CBS did 8)

^Facebook is not the best venue for the chain. Too many people posting negative things that they have no control over. Plus you had people posting info the chain/parks did not want the public to know yet. Better for them to go the WDW route with a blog they have to approve messages before they are posted.

Facebook has control on message being approved before posted. I'd say if it has a link attached, the Six Flags PR should have to approve it first.
