SFGAm announces Rip Tide Bay

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on November 4th, 2010, 11:03 pm
Did not expect 5slides... I'm impressed & know it'll make our waterpark not only more impressive, but more beautiful & eye catching. The colors for the 4 near vertical slides are unpleasing & I hope they become more vibrant. As for the Tantrum, I actually like those colors.

& this def (I hope I'm not bein an idiot by missin this) shows the GoKarts are no more which I'm happy about cause they are ugly no matter what park they're in.

Can someone explain the Flo-Rider situation... I thought we were gettin two like how Kalahari Sandusky does it... Other than that, Impressive SFGAm. :) I'm excited.

It reminds me of having 2 mice in a park type of thing. You have this new Tantrum, but we already have a Tornado, and 2 of those 2 new body slides look similar to what we have already. I just can't believe no one thought of a new expansion with a water coaster. They did a poll for Magic Waters, and it's people's favorite ride. Holiday World's attendance went up again (partially though because of no SFKK), but they added WildeBeast (water coaster), and doesn't Schlitterbahn win awards for their water coaster as top slide, or something like that.

I'm still going to go the waterpark, but to me this is nothing special.

^The thing about Hurricane Harbor is they get the attendance and cap out many days. To me it looks like they are throwing as many things as they can in a small area to increase capacity. A water coaster, a nice as they are, just takes up too much space with little capacity being added to the water park.

Tantrums and Tornados may look alike, but they're two different experiences...

^I've been on the one at Magic Waters, and they have where you go up and down the side of one of them, and this one is 2 of them (This one is 2 circular parts, and Magic Waters is 1.), but really I think the Tornado is a much better version. For that Magic Waters slide, it only went up the sides I would say twice. This slide just seems like a cheaper & smaller model of the Tornado. Places that couldn't afford the Tornado probably bought this or that's why Proslide made this. I think I seen this one at a hotel in pictures, and that makes sense because this is also smaller than a Tornado to fit it at a hotel. That's most likely why Magic Waters doesn't have a Tornado, and bought the smaller version. I would love to know the prices of a Tornado, and a Tatrum.

No, I'd more lean twords the fact that our waterpark rocks because ALL of our installments are PROSLIDE & seein these new additions are somethin WE DO NOT HAVE out of their catalog/models.

Im disappointed to not see any parking lot exits in this new area. I so hate walking all the way thru the park at the end of a day in the HH.

/\ Its a sales strategy, notice the year HH opened they built a bunch of new games in on the SWT bridge and moved a game from County Fair to Hometown Square. If you pay close attention you'll see it's like that in a lot of parks, notice how Disneyland is designed with the stores connected so when the parade goes down the street the foot traffic can easily be directed through the stores, or at Epcot how the Mouse Gear store is located in a spot that has 3 entrances/exits connecting Future World east, so pretty much everyone exiting Test Track when the park closes goes through not only the Test Track gift shop but also Mouse Gear. Also when your exiting Universal Orlando back to the parking structure the walkways up to and through City Walk are slightly uphill which makes people more likely to stop in the stores or restaurants.

The most blatant ones are Dollywood and Mt Olympus where you literally have to exit through a store to exit the park :)

It is a smart strategy, a lot of parks do do it. I went to Disney this past January & I was very impressed with the "connecting shops"... It was somethin I obviously never noticed as a child guest ;) BUT as an adult, it DEF WORKS! Though I have to say the only reason I bought more than usual was the fact I had castmember VIP all 5days I was there ;) haha.

Anywhoooo.... I do understand the concept though I was hoping there would be a front entrance to HH. I feel the two entrances would reduce such mass traffic in ONE area. I was excited to see what they could make out of a front entrance...as it would most likely have to be "attractive" seein its goin to be one of the first things guests see.

That's all you had to say after that?! Haha ;)

I wouldn't know... EVERY DAMN TIME I went to ride TT, it closed. I was in FL for over 3weeks...imagine that "luck".

^That was a little....pointless. If I wanted to know that info, I'd just go to Great America's website.

:/ Sorry, I'm not bein an ass, I just hate videos like that, that are... Pointless. You're just showin us basic pictures of the subject. Its like all the people who made RingRacer or Formula Rossa vids that showed slides/pics of F1 cars just cause that was close to the basis of the coasters cause they had nothin else but "had to" make a video.

Yes those have been out, but some, obviously have not seen them...its all good Cole.

Though were not up on our game with the big coasters like we used to be, havin the best SF waterpark is pretty nice. Not that it is YET but I can see us bein the "flagship" waterpark. I've been to other parks with HH or waterpark, & they don't look as nice as ours. SFNE was pretty nice though but for another, SFMM was terrible in appearance.

It really is impressive. The park literally diminishes away my regular thought & makes me feel like I am on vacation that day. I love it so much. From the seacritters in the sand colored midways to the real palm trees & countless slides, I love every inch of our Hurricane Harbor. :)

You know what I find interesting, how everyone's throughts changed on the subject. Well, not everyone's, but do at least some of you agree with the first post on this whole topic now? I do and did from the beginning!

"A great plot of land goes to... Hmm. Wow. Well is it disappointing? Yes. BUT it'll be a good addition to the waterpark. I can't see on mobile on the official site so ill ask here: is there any concept art online? & we don't have stats on the plunge slide do we?"

^That was my first post. I was sour (still can be) about the loss of nice fun big coaster but I do love HH. If we can't be the flagship park so to speak, I'll except havin the best SF waterpark. Maybe next well get an aqualoop, stingray, & watercoaster...?
