Fright fest is what you make it. If you go in looking for the SCARIEST event in the world, you will get disappointed. If you go in expecting it to be horrible, it probably will be horrible because deep inside you are disappointed with yourself. (truth). Go in with an open mind, have fun, and take it for what it is. If you don't like it, don't discourage others from going. The person who decides not to go, because YOU told them how bad it was, probably would've had the time of their life. However, the person who makes life decisions based on others opinions is also pretty ignorant. lol. Anyway, it is what it is, there's nothing you can do about it except have fun! There could be no fright fest at all! Then what?
Exactly.
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!

I agree 100% with your post, but I did want to point out your last statement.
For those on the board old enough to remember, the park USED to end the season Columbus Day weekend. That's right kids, the park was not open till the end of October or early November like it is now. Prior to the 1991 season, Columbus Day weekend was it. In 1991, the park decided to try out a Halloween event, and keep the park open for the full month of October.
It was a risk, as we all know how October can be in Chicago. It can be nice, but it can also be cold, windy, rainy, and even snow!
While some years have been better then others, overall I have been pleased with Fright Fest. I went both days last weekend, and had a great time. I am planning on going back again this weekend (probably all 4 days too).
yes, an $85 sweatshirt. I have a great job where i make very good money (thats how i afford 5 season passes every year), and dont shop for my clothing at walmart. sorry. i also own a $375k house, wanna question that too? so now my affluence and financial well being are going to be attacked on here too as well as my opinions? you people are great, my god.

Nobody cares about your 5 season passes, 375k house, or your good job. Nobody. The hell is the point in this post? You're just as bad as the VIP guy.

Nobody cares. It's the fact that you had to let people know how much your precious sweatshirt was in the first place. The fact you would wear something that expensive to an amusement park was your first mistake. Since it got ruined, my bet is next time you will stop by Walmart to wear a $10 sweatshirt to the park so if it gets ruined, it won't be a big deal. Let me guess though, you are to good to step foot in a Walmart, right?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I agree 100%. My friend and I went through Necropolis 3 times and the police officers actually remembered us. And they actually engaged in a 5 minute conversation haha!

The freak show is not there anymore. There is a new magic show in Orleans by Big Easy Balloons in that store that used to sell clearance merchandise. He does some "freak show" type of stuff also.
I've heard nothing but good things about Fright Fest (except for the select few who just don't know how to have a good time). Looking forward to visiting.

Right on the money Chitown, people that brag about their money make me want to puke. In the job I do as an installer, I go into some peoples houses that cost that much and I have to walk over their dirty diapers on the floor, dirty clothes on the floor, some times I have to wade thru their dirty azz houses. I have been in houses that have 2, 60 inch flat screen tv's in one Bathroom! Back on topic though, Ilove going to Fright Fest and I have gone every year. I have alot of fun just walking around taking in the sights and sounds of the best time of the year for me.
Candy: What you lookin' at? Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama. Candy: Yeah, you see something you like? Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.
Hey everyone! First post. I've been a GA local for 34 years. I have a good job but a ton of debt, my house's value dropped $70000 in three years, and we're firmly middle class. I would never own a sweatshirt that cost more than $15. Yet, we still somehow bought 5 GA passes as a family last weekend! Sorry, I couldn't resist after reading that earlier post.
We went both days last weekend and had a great time. The crowds were small both days, and even though it was windy and cold on Saturday, I think I learned to love my home park again. I had a pass as a teen and basically lived at the park, so I got kind of burned out by adulthood and didn't go for years, but now that I can take my own kids on the rides I used to love and my 4 kids and wife all love coasters, I'm starting to love it again now that we have the passes for the first time as a family. I like the multiple visits over the one very long day a year.
FF is a great time to hit the park to get on rides with little or no wait! We are going Saturday, Sunday, and Monday this weekend, and I can't wait. The warmer weather will probably bring out more people, but it's still a ton less crowded than the summer.
Chitown wrote:^Just as long as you don't wear $85 sweatshirts to the park, you will have a good time. :~)
+1
Might as well add to not wear a $200 jacket either, or $50 hat.
While you're at it...it does rain quite a bit in the fall...if you are wearing your $150 air Jordan's, you might not want to go, as you could get them all wet.

Yeah about that...give it a week or so Fright Fest has some of the busiest days of the season + no HH to disperse the crowds. There have been a few times i've seen Giant Drop using all of the queue switchbacks and the line going back to Fiesta Fries, Raging Bulls line ending near Viper's entrance with all the queues full, and BTR's line using the Mardi Gras entrance and going in front of Jesters Wild Ride.
The other thing that will cause people to come out by the bus load is the weather. Saturday and Sunday the temperature is expected to be in upper 70's (78 on Saturday, and 80 on Sunday). While I'm not a betting man by any means, if I had to bet, I would say that this weekend will be a very busy time in the park. Expect lines for all rides to be very long (Flats at least 20 mins, Coasters 60 mins +). If you think back to years past, and ask anyone who went to the park on a Saturday or Sunday when the temperature was above 60, they will tell you the park was very busy.
Monday its also suppose to be in the middle 70's but there is a chance of rain, so crowds may not be as bad.
How will the weather affect tonight? With lows expected in the mid 50's, I'm trying to figure out if flash passes will be needed or not. I've heard Fridays are pretty slow, with rides being walk-on, but will weather be a factor?
Good question. Historically, Friday nights have always been less crowded. I believe the reason is more the hours the park is open, instead of the weather.
Unless you have a Season Pass and live somewhat near the park, its not cost effective for someone to drive hours to get there, spend $20 to park, plus the price of admission, for only 6 hours in the park (5 PM till 11 PM) .
Sure, good weather will cause more of the locals with Season Passes to come out. But, it still should not be that bad. I'm going tonight and looking forward to getting multiple rides on many of the coasters.
And remember that this Sunday to the crowds will seem more like a Saturday because a lot of people don't have school the next day, or they are off of work on Monday.
I don't know if I ever explained it before about Fright Fest "being more crowded" thing than during the summer. Fright Fest is a limited time event when the park gets changed, but as BP/19 said Hurricane Harbor is closed which takes a lot of people - about 7 or 8 roller coasters combined in capacity IF full. Sky Trek Tower is closed, the antique cars, and the train are also closed along with all the water rides. Yes, I would like the antique cars and the train themed again because I rather have those themed than let's say Terror Twister, but my whole point is that Fright Fest is "crowded", but is it really as crowded as people think. When you have less attractions running, and let's say the same amount of people as a July day in the park, where are the people going to go? To me, it seems more crowded rather than it really is compared to a day in July when you have all those other attractions open. Even the kiddie area - Looney Tunes had rides disassembled.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
We're actually a group of those rare people who are driving 3 hours to spend 6 hours in the park. We took advantage of the season pass 4pack deal though - so we'll get our money's worth over the course of next year.
I've been to fright fest in the past, and night time is when things get fun. I dont really want to spend daytime hours there anyway.
Let's hope the park isnt crowded tonight, I want Superman six times in a row, tonight!
