Fright Fest 2010!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Necropolis on September 29th, 2010, 11:10 pm
So the weather looks fair for opening weekend for Fright Fest. :) Looks like Saturday is gonna be a high of 54°F with 30% chance for a light shower. 30% isn't really a good chance for rain at all. :) Sunday is the same. High of 54°. Dress appropriately people! Looks like an appropriate chill and cool opening to Fright Fest this weekend. Cannot wait! :D :!: :P 8)

^ Oh yeah. Saw the exact same site last night. Someone posted a link in the other Frightfest thread for questions about frightfest. I think that one is better. Its a kink to SFGAM's Frightfest page where you can see what they have for free and what activities require an additional fee. Bases on that link the SAW live event looks like it could be the scariest thing Fright Fest will have ever. Im hoping the hype isn't false and then we go and become dissapointed. Im sure its also not recommended for kids under 12 haha. $13 though does seem kinda a lot for a haunted house. Better be worth it. Im goin saturday. Ill post on here and let everyone know the details and my thoughts on the SAW live event. :D

$13 for a single haunted house at a theme park is insane.

It doesn't make sense to me that both of them are $13. Saw is a popular franchise that probably is going to cost the park more money to use the name -Saw - plus it's going to cost more money to rebuild new sets whereas the other haunted house has been there forever. So, why isn't Saw let's $10, and the other one $7. I know they are both $13, and that just seems high. The reason I say it seems high is because you are paying to get in the park, and than they are charging a lot + admission.

Horor Nights for Universal admission is $75, but you get 14 days with the Frequent Fear thing, so you could go most nights it is open except Fridays and Saturdays. That you get all the Haunted Houses though. Though, Orlando is tourist trap galore, and they know they could get people to spend more because it's their vacation and whatnot. SFGAm is a regional park. Though, really if you are getting in SFGAm for $35, and the haunted houses are $13, and you do one. That's $48, and that's not bad considering the huge discount to get into the park anyway, so it's all what people will do, and I'm sure you will see people doing the Haunted Houses at the park because they are well known in IL.

And if you have a season pass, and if you went enough times to make that season pass worth it, than just pretend like you are just paying for the Haunted Houses alone, and if you do all 4 (with the mazes), is it $25, or was that just a guess? Anyway, if it is $25, that's not bad for 4 things.

Preview night for Fright Fest was great. The park looks fantastic. A lot of the same "haunted" rides return, some new as well MUHAHAHA - Terror Twister 2 ran wonderful. I believe I rode 18 times in a row, mostly making sure the lighting was matching the music, etc. All 8 cycles have key parts to them that make them unique - I'll say this to anyone - don't worry about what cycle you get... They are seriously all amazing.

Themed rides for 2010:

1.) Terror Twister 2
2.) Black Widow
3.) Pit and the Pendulum
4.) Blood Bath
5.) Rue Le Morgue
6.) Swamp Thing
7.) The Birds
8.) Demon
9.) Monster Mash
10.) Ricoslay

Oh, yes - there are surprises... Certain things may not be the same... Some rides may behave differently than you may recall. Some new themed rides have been born! Yeah, I'll leave it at that. :)

Honestly, Fright Fest 2010 is going to be amazing. I know all of you are always skeptical - but hear me out. The scare zones are well done - each having several actors. The rides are very well decorated... Necropolis has one of the best layouts I have walked through in a long time. Larry has returned atop Sky Trek Tower. Demon was running wonderfully - fog, lights, that classic song - nothing is better.

The park has several newer "creepy" songs that play throughout the rocks all over the park - really setting the mood. The overall atmosphere was more eerie than past years, in my personal opinion. Of course, I know all of you will say, "Tony, no matter what they do, you'll love it" and that is true - sometimes I wish more people would enjoy the little things, and not be so upset that Haunted Houses cost $13, or Mayor Slayer is gone. (Also, any GOOD haunted house anywhere is $12-15 anyway, so why are we complaining? If you don't like the price, just walk past it) The free scare zones are good enough - the actors will find those who will cry like little babies - trust me. Saw a lot of that tonight.

All in all, I'll be back Saturday to watch more people ride TT2 and see reactions, take movies, and enjoy the best time of the year - Fright Fest, at Six Flags.

^So, Black Widow is American Eagle's name? Does the Great American Raceway have decorations? Is Fiddler's Flung no longer themed? Is Iron Wolf, Iron Werewolf anymore?

^ Only a hand full of rides were operating... Black Widow is American Eagle - not sure if the walls are boarded up again with red lights inside and massive cobwebs and spiders galore. It could just be a name change.

The Raceway was also not open, so I cannot comment on decorations. I assume they'll have just as much as years past. The sign outside is the classic Fright Fest sign.

I saw no indication that Fiddler's Fling was Fiddler's Flung. It was dark when I wandered past, I may have misread - but I honestly believe no decorations are present.

Iron Wolf is Iron Wolf.

Now, this was Preview night - when we all walk in Saturday, these things could change.

^WOW! Thank you, thank you! From the sound of it, it looks like this year's Fright Fest will be the best one in the past couple of years! Im excited to ride terror twister and see what new rides have been re-themed and decorated. I'll be there saturday gazing in awe probably...hopefully lol. :) An employee told me that something new or awesome is gonna be done to Giant Drop? Wonder if he stayed true to his word? Oooooh...can't wait! I'll make a reply on Sunday on what went on for the opening day of Fright Fest 2010!! :D

Also highly recommend Terror Twister 2: a turn for the worse. I rode that at least 5 times. Ehem, car 12.

^ Car 10 and Car 12 have always been the best on Chubasco/Terror Twister. As for Raceway, it will not be open during Fright Fest. It closed for the season on Labor Day and the entrance is blocked with cornstalks.

I'm going on Sunday for my first visit, as well, and would like some information regarding general crowd sizes and the most efficient order in which to ride the coasters (and other rides). I'd like to avoid using a flash pass.

I've always heard that SFGAm is at its best during Fright Fest, so I am REALLY excited about this trip. Any other tips and must-do things that you have to share would be greatly appreciated, too. Thanks!

(If anyone has spoilers about Fright Fest that makes certain things a must-do, please PM me about these. I'm not familiar with the park at all, so I want to make sure I don't miss out on ANYTHING! :) )

I really like how they did the lighting this year. It seems over the top. Demon's Entrance is awesome as always.

If you hear Sandstorm coming from inside TT2, you just missed my cycle.

And please, for those that have NOT ridden TT2 this year, yet... Please be quiet about the new elements to the ride!!!!

Appreciate it!

One week from now, I'll be heading to Gurnee. Can't wait. I havent been to Fright Fest in a few years, and that Saw Live haunted house sounds like it's gonna be pretty damn good.

What could be better than a Friday Night in October, Riding Coasters and going through Haunted Houses in the same park??

Riding coasters until 2-3pm, then switching over to what Fright Fest is all about - the transformed rides!

Unless you hardly go to the park, I am always surprised how much I hear about coaster riding at Fright Fest.

It's a 3 hour drive for us to get to the park. Coming from Rock Island.

So we want to get our share of coasters in while we're there. Since we're getting the season passes for next year, we might be a little bit more selective on what we ride and when since it's not going to cost us 40-60 bucks each every time we come.

^ I see - then I am happy you get to come and have fun on the coasters! What I said wasn't a bash, just there is so much more to Fright Fest than the coasters.

Hope you have a fantastic day!

OK, you have been posting how you got to experience FF to some degree before most others, but did you bother to take pics? If so, post them.

^ And ruin the surprises in store for people? What is the fun in that? But in all seriousness, I never bring a camera to the park - in fact I can't stand anything in my pockets whatsoever - I have lost way to much crap on these rides.

Since it's the eve of Fright Fest, if you want some stuff answered, just ask... :)

Otherwise, see you guys at the gate. We can all race to TT2 together. Let the party begin.

Considering I live 1400 miles away from the park now, I am going to have to settle with pictures.
