SFGAm announces Rip Tide Bay

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Surfing simulators are for cruise ships, and besides that it's got crappy capacity! An activity pool is such a sad excuse for expansion, 2012 better be our year of the coaster!!! (Rant OVER!)

You have to look at these additions from a business standpoint to understand why im pro-waterpark expansion.

Bigger waterpark = more $$$ = More likely to add a high capacity thrill ride at the theme park side of the park.

I think alot of people are jumping to these wild conclusions that oh, the water park is going to suck, or what about adding another wave pool blah blah. We have no idea exactly what is going to be included in this expansion other then the surf simulator, the waterslide and the activity pool.

Did I want a new high capacity coaster at SFGAm in 2011? Hell yeah I did, but to sit here and say that this is the worst thing to ever happen to the park, or say it flat out sucks, you need to think about this a little bit more.

It also says AND MORE... at the end umm what could that be who knows a new coaster maybe. So keep youre hope up coaster fans. Still its better than nothing with a company emerging from financial ruins and economy being the way it is were lucky to even get anything in our park.

I think they would have told us if we were getting something more like coaster already though. And more probably would mean bathrooms, food, and maybe more seating areas.

I never said I didn't understand it from a business perspective, but that doesn't mean I like it. I'm not gonna boycott the park, but just seems like another missed opportunity to improve the real money maker in all of this. More people come for the dry park, wouldn't adding a bigger ride there bring more money into the park, therefore making more money for a waterpark expansion? It's a two-way street.

By the way, if anything more exciting than an activity pool were coming in RipTide Bay, it certainly would have been advertised. "And more" means lounge chairs, bathroom, hot tub, maybe a snack bar.

I think the Activity Pool is like this:

^That seems more like what Skull Island has.

This is good for the water park. I go to the water park a couple of times a year and enjoy it because my boyfriend and I love water parks. I really don't care for the flow rider thing, but the slide should be fun. I wonder what they mean by "And more", but it's probably not anything big. I was hoping for a coaster as well, but this shall do.

Let's look at the "and more" part this way. For 2010 it started as all we were gettin was Glow in the park parade. How DISAPPOINTED were you then to only find out LITTLE DIPPER was comin in 2010 then after that we received news of Magiquest. Oh wait! It wasn't over... Sky trail, an interactive ropes course. Then to find out we got a remodel of County Fair food court(midway market). SOOOOO.... We never know how 2011 will be. Surfs up or belly up?!

I think a couple things lost in this discussion are:

with the expansion of the waterpark to the front of the park, I know myself and others included figured that this was the move that was needed in order to make it seperate admission, BUT the press release states that it is included in season pass.

With 130,000 ft expansion, say goodbye to the go-karts and in my opinion most likely even pictorium.
The park will not let go of the revenue from go-karts, could we see SWF as the new staging area for the karts?

I know this is off-topic, but I have a question for you. Our park has a family raft slide that is green and teal I would say that is called Bubba Tubba. You have been to Raging Waves in Yorkville IL, and I was wondering how much better or worse that Crocodile Mile slide is which is a family raft slide more in the dark that is purple. That's the only reason I would go to Raging Waves because that slide intrigues me, and I was wondering about your opinion of that slide compared to ours.

I wish they would have added a looping drop slide, that way you get the drop and you get a more impressive structure, I mean those things look amazing. Have you seen the double loop slide in germany, or the new dueling looping slide going to Wet'n'Wild. Ehhh, but a water park expansion is better than no expansion. At least that stupid surfing thing will be a huge draw away from tornado and the other slides.
"Park staff later claimed that they were offered a hundred bucks a pop to try to the slide, but refused after seeing that test dummies often emerged on the other end dismembered. The looping slide was actually closed down for most of the park’s life due to these injury concerns."

^Yes, but the go carts bring in money and six flags like money. Maybe that's why they were surveying the SWF area.

Great move by the park getting Flo-Riders. While not the best capacity, they are a show for people watching.

I would imagine they're gone. Not like people would miss them.

I know that I have sort of been on the opposing side of most of the crowd...But I really liked the go carts! Maybe they will move them to SWF area. It was a fun track and I don't want to lose em. Hope they stay.

Also, I do hope we get more on the theme park side because, after this addition, we will have the best waterpark in the six flags chain. Sooooooo, hopefeully we will get something REALLY BIG for like maybe 55th anniversary. Who's gonna go on the big ride for the 100th anniversary when we're all like 60 years old and the park is gonna be called US BANK PARK??? ME!!!!!!!! (not a fact...case u didnt know)
Last Visit, American Eagle BACKWARDS 5 times in a row right before the park closed. I cannot WAIT to go back for Fright Fest!

One of the Schlitterban's have double flow-riders. If they can deal with it from a capacity standpoint, ANY waterpark in the world should be able to.

Personally, I'm extremely excited for the flow-riders. I'm happy that this is a decent sized expansion and not just a water slide.

Ilovthevu' wrote:I think this surfing thing sounds kind of like an injury nightmare (Sure the stuff is padded, but I just don't know about that.), and having basketballs in a pool isn't the greatest idea either. There were these people in a pool hotel, and they were hitting other people with other balls instead of aiming at the basketball nets.

What I'm not excited for is this. All the criticizing about all these "safety hazards" and other "reasons" why this is a "terrible addition." There are hundreds, if not thousands of flow-riders around the world. I'm pretty sure taking a fall on one isn't going to kill you. Stop being a pansy and take a fall on the thing, and tell me how "unsafe" of an "injury nightmare" this ride is. As for the ignorant idiots in your hotel, I'm sure they represent every guest walking through the HH entrance. Why don't we just close every roller coaster in the world because someone could keep their lap bar too high and get ejected from the ride? Get over yourself and the coaster you didn't receive this season.

This is a great addition, and should hopefully relieve the congestion around the wavepool and its neighboring slide complex. Definitely putting all of these on my list of things to do next season.

I've been on a Flow-Rider before, and it would take a lot to get majorly hurt. I don't remember if there was a warning on the sign but I'm sure there probably is.

About Pictorium, I doubt that it gets taken out for part of this expansion, if anything it will just go further into the parking lot. The go-karts will obviously be moved or taken out, hopefully if they are moved its not in the SWF area, as something better can go there, but I don't know where else they would go. Another interesting thing to think about is them moving the entrance to Hurricane Harbor to the front of the park, as the one next to Viper I don't think is too appealing and I'm sure most will agree.

I'm not goin to agree fully on that entrance to HH comment... In a way it fits an odd transition in SWT with the red iron gates & tan walls/mounts/fountain...like a modern western ranch home or somethin. I think it looks good but IF they were to get rid of it, I couldn't see them actually wantin to as that huge walkway they made/entrance up to/to the park with the reconstruction of Vipers que/under the Raging Bull turnaround obv took some time. I don't see the point of creating an entrance in the front seein the waterpark doesn't even open till 11am vs 10am for the dry park....but if it was inside the gates near STT then I can see it as an alternate entrance while keepin the "main" one we have now.
