SFGAm to announce 2011 addition on September 1st

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

There are two categories of roller coaster, wooden and steel. Twister, out-and-back, stand-up, inverted, looping, hyper, vertical, etc. are subsets of these two categories.

I would hold off from trying and go in that direction to prove the point.

Because American Eagle is an out and back woodie racer. Viper is a pretty compact twister. Little Dipper is a figure eight. Don't be a smart ass. You knew the answer to this before you even asked it. Every park has multiple woodies. Where is the logic in adding a second stand up when you have a perfectly good one albeit rough.

Viper, American Eagle, and Little Dipper all give different experiences. Chang and IW don't. RC and TDK don't.

Saying why we got Viper when we already have American Eagle is probably one of the worst comparisons of all time it's just so wrong in every way shape and form. Back on topic, if they add a solid number of things to Hurricane Harbor besides the vertical drop slide, the expansion is not such a bad thing. That is of course we get a little something more "thrilling" in 2012 :D.

That's like saying why did they build Tidal Wave when they already have Demon and Whizzer (back then TOTC and Willard's Whizzer)

I don't care what you all say, but Six Flags Great America needs to get a MAJOR attraction for the 2012 season. I want a huge roller coaster that would be the same caliber as Raging Bull.

After all, if the world ends in 2012, we will at least want to spend the summer enjoying ourselves.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but you are going to be hoping on that "same caliber as Raging Bull" attraction for a loong time since A) they are still $830 Million in debt and B) There are plenty of other Six Flags properties that can use that kind of high-end captial first (not actually saying it will happen).

Mine is El Toro style ride. SFGv has Nitro AND El Toro. But considering lack of space they would probably transform American Eagle. I want a forth Airtime Machine but we don't have the room. My only thought would be is put it in between American Eagle and Washington Street and have the end of El toro in AE helix. just a dumb thought

I'm tired of people saying this is stupid just because it isn't catered to you. Ultimately if expanding the water park is gonna bring more people in and keep the park open for years to come then everybody who likes the park should be behind it!

I was scared of roller coasters until last year, when I rode Raging Bull for the first time last year, it was the biggest ride I've ever been on! From then on out I've been hooked on roller coasters, then I saw this website and got hooked.... enough off topic rambling lol!

The park presents a new addition as a benefit to all visitors. Is a water park expansion a benefit, well yeah it is because of capacity reasons...but it will still fill up and thrill seekers will still be left empty handed. Sure the every day soccer mom will be happy that she will now have an extra place to rest her behind, but its just too bad that thrill rides have been put on the back burner indefinitely.

I mean I do enjoy the water park, but I just look at it as an option for when I am there. I go, and always look at the theme park while inside, and want to go back. The water park shouldn't be the focus...but money controls us, so good riddance.

Cedar Point doesn't seem to care about Soak City, and guess what... they at least try to add a ride of some significance each year. I think any of us, given the option, would have taken Shoot the Rapids in place of Buccaneer Battle (barring their operational delays). I think all of us would have taken the option of a 315 foot high suspended swing, instead of an extra attraction in the water park.

And Maverick as opposed to the Dark Knight.... Dragster as opposed to Superman ... its just not even a question. Too bad we couldn't take those rides for our own and have them here in Chicago. I'd much rather play on Dragster and Maverick instead of TDK and Superman

^Considering how often Shoot the Rapids is down, give me BB any day of the week.

For those wanting a Maverick style ride, Busch Gardens Tampa is only a plane flight or 20 hours drive away :)

Cedar Point:
-Indoor waterpark and year round revenue streams.
-4 on-property hotels.
-Camping village.
-International tourist destination.

Six Flags Great America:
-Doesn't.

Yeah makes no sense why CP would get bigger attractions

Once again guys this isn't about bigger rides... it is about better rides. Sure the water park may draw a few people in, but coasters draw people from farther away.... Again I say we used to have all "original" rides and now all we have been getting is clones. This is STILL true even at the water park level... there are no original rides or slides, just cookie cutter rides.

This means that many people that may go to SFGAM if they add new thrills and have a decent water park may go to a cheaper or closer water park because they've been on all the thrill rides too many times to pay for something they're not going to enjoy on that visit. Similarly people who go JUST for the thrills don't want to pay half their admission for a water park they never use (I've never set foot in hh). When they add kiddie rides they can be clones, but when they add other rides they should be original -- even if they aren't a "est" ride.... This improves the quality and makes people want to return to the one of a kind rides. Whizzer, Eagle, Viper, Iron wolf, Batman, superman, and bull all have very few similar rides.... and that makes them better. I say if you're going to give us a water park expansion make it top notch and we'll wait a few years more for a coaster... but when we get a coaster we don't want ANOTHER clone, or a used coaster.... Just please give us something original -- even if it isn't the best ride in the park ....

^Clones save $$$ and are normally fairly popular with the general public. I'm willing to be that 95% plus of the people who go to SF Great America have no clue there are 8 Batman the Rides in the US or that there are 3 other Superman clones around the world.

Now, as a traveling enthusiast, I agree with that 100%. It's why i see the parks coaster collection as average at best (ducking flying objects being thrown) compared to other parks. Then again, I am not the target market for the park.

Ok going back on topic, i think that SFGAm is getting a 1300 square foot expansion. Why do i say this, when earlier i went away from that idea? Well in the puzzle picture, the blue text, which ends in uring, i believe, is the word featuring. Than, what i am thinking, it goes on to list what is all in the expansion. Anyone agree with me?
