V2 Occasional No Holding Brake Malfunction

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

^^That's not what I heard from the Q&A. I heard them say that it is a massive undertaking to fix the holding brake on V2. They're trying to fix it, but it's not happening anytime soon.

To tell you the truth, I'm a fan of the holding break. It might be the slightest bit painful, but it does add a bit of intrigue.

I only have been to the park 3 times this season, and i never have seen the holding break actually do its job yet. V2 is just not the same without the holding brake... :(

What was the reason they removed the holding break again?

Did it make V2 to expensive to operate, or did it malfunction too often?

Holding break was removed - per Hank Salemi - because of the stress on that piece of track.

V2's holding brake is not operating because of the fact it causes way too much stress on the track.

I believe that Intamin has recommended to all operators of Impulse coasters to turn off the brake in an effort to prevent damage to the track.

How about the other V2 clones? (Steel Venom at Valleyfair or Possessed at Dorney Park)
Do they have the brake working at this time? Are we the only ones that has a non-double spiraled tower to not feature the holding brake?

Steel Venom's is still running. Not that it helps the ride in terms of enjoyment in any way.

The holding brake is still on the ride, it is not in use because it is broken and would require more $ than they are willing to pay to fix it. Also V2 at SFDK's holding break was permanently shut off sometime in 2003/2004 because of problems they were having with it. And I agree with monsterfan that Steel Venom's holding brake seems much rougher than the other ones.

I agree with BP/19 on this one, I doubt that it's because of stress on the track since they already added extra support to the track back in 2004

Wicked Twister at Cedar Point has two twisting vertical pieces; so there isn't any brake on that one.

No idea. But the holding break didn't look that fun to me.

I remeber I rode Steel Venom at valleyfair last year in the front row and I remeber how painfull it was. My body actually jerked back and forth between the seat and the restrant.

The holding brake added a little more thrill to the ride though, especially when it was the first time you ever ride it, and didnt expect it coming! I dont know why some people are complaining that it hurts, it really never hurt me when i rode it.

^I only rode V2 without the holding break. So when I rode Steel Venom, it was a shock to say the least...and not a good shock either.
