Cleanest theme park in the world?!??!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Aaron084 on April 4th, 2009, 10:03 pm
If anyone was at the park Friday or Saturday you no doubt heard the announcements or saw the signs around the park stating that Six Flags Great America was the Cleanest Theme Park in the World.

I really had no idea what to make of this other than it was just pretty stupid and seemed like something they just made up. Is there some award they got that I missed? The signs had no disclaimer or proof of world dominance in cleanliness on them. Cleanliness goes a lot further than just picking up wrappers and cigarette butts. (which is easy to do the first two days you're open) If they truly want this for the park, they've got quite an uphill maintenance battle in front of them.

Other crazy claims to fame I saw around the park:

Best Funnel Cake Sundaes in the World (on banner in front of Flash Pass center)
Best Water Park in the Nation (on banners for Hurricane Harbor, this one was harder to see)

Anyone else think these claims to fame were odd?

Anyone else notice they seem to have increased the number of garbage cans in the park, as well as adding those recycle "bottles" (the yellowjackets are going to have a field day with those)?

^I noticed that. I'm not sure the bottles are serving their purpose of recycling, as I saw lots of people throwing normal trash in them, even though there are trash cans right next to most of them. It also seemed like there were an increased number of trash cans in the parking lot.

Recycling means to help the environment, but it also means for them to advertise Coke more, and get more money from Coke. I thought it was funny last year that they had on the tvs an advertisement for a garbage truck company. I'm surprised they haven't put advertisements on the regular garbage cans yet. That's a lucrative business with so many of them.

Aren't they false advertising if they aren't the cleanest theme park in the world? There competition would not like they are saying something that is false.

This park is dirty could have multiple meanings. Yes, it could mean there is trash everywhere, but it could mean look at how bad those Demon harnesses used to look, look at the chipped wood above the Whizzer line, look at those Demon / Iron Wolf poles that are rusting away being used for nothing, or there is writing on the walls in the Dark Knight line now. They made those walls too close to the actual line. It's kind of hard though with limited room.

The claim Cleanest Park in the World says to me that the Midways would have to be basically spotless and in good repair, employees in proper uniform with shirts tucked in, clean shaven, no fad haircuts, etc, rides look clean either fairly freshly pained or at least not smeared with rust and grease, all ride vehicles would have padding in good shape and be free of dirt or odors, no or very limited graffiti anywhere in the park, spotless restrooms in good working order, and ample trash cans, ash trays, etc, that are kept empty throughout the day.

SFGAm has a long, long long way to go. If they got 15% of that, then it'd be considered an amazing day :)

And parks that I have seen and proven it's possible would be, pretty much any disney park, most Herschend Parks, Hershey Park, Europa Park and Holiday World (who traditionally wins the annual golden ticket award for cleanest park)

My biggest thing is a ride like American Eagle...the chippy wood, overgrown landscape, ridiculously long way to the station, etc. ok maybe the last part was a bit -- but I think the overall look of the rides should be Priority #1 and then everything around them as people don't want to go on a ride like Eagle per say if by the time they get to the ride itself they realize the grounds around it probably haven't been taken care of in years. Seriously, when is our beloved AE going to get a nice restoration?! It deserves it 10X more than Wolf. Which, in 2-4 years, I still say will end up gone due to lack of popularity since why would you restore a ride like that knowing people don't really go on it anyway. Most folks wouldn't care if it was the first B&M.

Underneath V2's train in the station, it has black spots. When looking at the Lazy River, and Wavepool, there are also black spots either from just dirt, or they need painting. For the 6 slide complex, there are bars holding the sliding together, they have rust on them. Outside the waterpark driving in, some of fences are getting bad. There is rust in the Skull Island bucket in which you can see. Of course, this deals with water, but when you make claims of cleanest park in the world, to have stuff like this, they shouldn't have.

I haven't been to GAm or any other Six Flags park this year, but it wouldn't surprise me if other parks in the chain were claiming the same thing. It just seems like something Six Flags would do. I think it's cheap, just like ads plastered onto anything and everything including coaster trains.

^I love you. Why? Because you guessed exactly what I was going to post right now. All the parks at the parking entrance and at the ticket booths have a sign with Mr. Six that say "We score a 10 in park Cleanliness!" I have a bad pic at SFNE, I wasn't trying to take a pic of the signs, rather than the entrance.

Once inside the parks they do say they're the cleanest park in the world, don't feel special GAm fans. Don't feel special.

Really. No one on here felt special. I believe the majority of us, including myself are annoyed by it, because it's just a lie.

^ Only when you make comments like that they do.

So Six Flags likes to say they are the cleanest Theme Park in the World, which pisses off every enthusiast with-in a 7,000 mile radius of a park

YET Cedar Point can slap on the "The Best" everything under the sun, yet thats perfectly accepted.... OKAY!

I'm surprised that places can get by with things saying this. I mean - there isn't even an asterisk (*) after it and then small hard-to-read print saying that it really isn't the cleanest park in the world - but maybe the cleanest park in the area.

Any kind of deceptive marketing can be done. Sure doesn't pose any danger to Six Flags for putting up such deceptive marketing - but it does help them a bit I guess.

This kind of marketing technique is subjective as it is. Words used in such slogans such as the "Cleanest Theme Park In the World" or "Best Water Park in the Nation!" (the other "iffy" one) spark up the debate as in what is the "Best"? The "Cleanest"?.....everyone is going to have a different idea about these kinds of things.....which is why this advertising works so well even though it seems so "odd" or "wrong".

Essentially, no one can really tell Six Flags (or anyone else who may want to jump on the bandwagon) to stop using either of the slogans based on that kind of logic.

The thing is, I don't think an average guest will give claims like this much, if any thought at all. There is so much noise in terms of advertisements that the park feels like one giant commercial. Baseless claims are just another drop in that ocean.
I haven't seen a candy wrapper or cigarette butt here and there make or break anyone's day either, and it shouldn't.

For what its worth I visited all four Disney parks in Orlando, Sea World and Busch Gardens last week and Sea World was the only park that was even close to GAm in terms of cleanliness. This was a shock to me, but they are definitely doing a nice job at six flags.

Come on six flags, its just ennoying when people claim things which isnt true. My ROOM is cleaner than the SFGAm park! But truthfully i cant blame you, its not your fault ignorant park guest just litter everywhere. But the park has been improving, i remember seeing trash everywhere on the ground a few years ago. I just dont know why its so hard to put garbage in the trash.

I will give them the best funnel cake they are great, but cleanliness has really improved a whole lot, now as for the cleanliness of the bathrooms any places bathroom can and should be a lot cleaner than what they are. There are times when my female group counterparts say the womens smells like a zoo for the dead, and the mens isnt too far off. they also need more people partolling the lines for the occasional jackass who throws their dippin dots continer over the fence. And some one standing by the Roarin' Rapids line as people are always throwing crap into the water there.

Yes, they do have the best funnel cake sundaes but cannot claim to be the cleanest theme park in the world. Its only to make the park look better. Its really a matter of opinion just like pizza places claiming to have the best pizza in town. Its all personal taste. But I can say that they do a pretty darn excellent job in keeping the park clean. I don't think Ive ever seen a messy area that needed to be swept or cleaned up. And the bathrooms are always clean and air-conditioned. I wonder if theres always someone who has to be stationed in the bathrooms because theres always an employee in the bathrooms. I like the hand sanitizing stations.
