TPR's Q&A on Friday

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby shockwave guy mark on August 14th, 2010, 4:00 pm
Alright decided I am going to share some of the questions and answers that were asked and answered yesterday during my trip to Six Flags Great America with Theme Park Review. I am just going to sum up what was asked and what was answered and I am not going by word for word (that would have been impossible as I have only taped two videos during the Q&A which I will post later).

Q: Were heard rumors and that you had a town meeting about adding the roller coaster Chang from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to our park for 2011, what ever happened to that plan?
A: We were only looking at possibly adding the roller coaster to the park for the 2011 season, we never said we were definitely going to do it. Adding a coaster to the park is usually a very long process however things went quicker then expected and many people were just assuming we had plans to add the coaster. We were only looking at the possibility of adding it.

Q: Do you have plans to run American Eagle backwards ever again?
A: No we do not. American Eagle's manufacturer never intended the ride to ever be run backwards as it becomes a liability. The same can be said about many other wooden roller coasters at other Six Flags parks. So at this time we currently have no plans to run the ride backwards.

Q: We heard rumors that you were planning on getting rid of Whizzer to possibly make room for a new ride... Is that true?
A: No (followed by a round of applause from the entire room), Whizzer is the last of its kind making it a historic landmark. It is also one of the first roller coasters families and kids ever get to go on making it a very special roller coaster to the park. Not only that but Whizzer is also a very low maintenance ride for how old it is and it runs great!

Q: When can we expect to hear an announcement of what will be added to the park next year?
A: Very soon. Expect a announcement at the end of August.
->He also mentioned that we are currently over-populated with water rides and Hurricane Harbor doesn't really need anymore new slides at the moment, so don't expect anything water related.

Q: If money was not an obstacle what would you add to Six Flags Great America?
A: I think adding a Dive machine to the park would be a really cool idea.

Q: What happened to Batman's wheel guards on the train?
A: Well one of the trains has them on, but it is maintenance related and was causing problems.
->I don't exactly remember what the answer was on this as two of the managers did not know why and they had to ask someone else. I just pretty much remember it was maintenance related.

Q: Will V2 ever have its back tower's brake operating ever again?
A: Most likely not. Its is a lot of trouble maintenance-wise and causes some other problems for the park.

Q: We saw Six Flags St. Louis had sport bottle holders for six flags cups for their rides, do you plan to add them to out park?
A: Well at least for this season no. We are definitely looking into adding them though, however the safety of our guests and their items are one of our priorities. We are also afraid that people might contaminate the cups while they are sitting in the station. We were also looking into maybe implementing a belt to put the bottle on for our guests.

After the Q&A we got to enter restricted areas and "the graveyard" so I will post a trip report of my trip in the next few days as well as the videos and a montage. So stay tuned!

^Only thing that cought my attention and got me excited is that the park knows that it is over populated with water attractions. This may possibly mean that the park has no current plans to expand the water park or add anything else water related for a while. :D

I was not home today to upload my Trip Report, videos or begin the montage. I will be busy tomorrow too, but I will try my best to get the videos up and my Trip Report at least. The montage might take a few days depending on how I am feeling with the content, the song and transitions. If for some reason I dont get around to it tomorrow it will definitely be up on Monday.

He's going to say what he's told to say. If they think the park needs a new ride, then he follows suit.

What did you guys expect from the Whizzer question? Was the guy going to say we are going to take the ride down tomorrow, and than upset people. Sure, the Whizzer isn't going to go away for next year, but money, and attendance speak. If the ride is costing too much money, they are going to take it down, and they don't really care if it's the first, tallest, longest, and whatnot.

Salemi said that it's a very low maintenance coaster for it's age.

I really dont think this ride is going anywhere anytime soon. In almost everyone's eyes its a great coaster. Not only that but the park manager did state that the ride is very low maintenance. And attendance? Are you kiding? Whizzer always gets sent out with full trains, your insane.

Talk about putting spin on that answer!!! They had every intention of installing Chang.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Yes, but YOU are the one who keeps pushing a waterpark expansion on us, that many have doubted we need. Now you have heard it from the top.

It's funny how David, "the idiot and moron" was right all along. Except for the whole Chang cancelled thing, that was pulled out of left field.

But in all seriousness, This gives me that warm fuzzy coaster feeling. :D

Line attendance is always different than sending full trains. If people wanted to do this on Whizzer they could even though it probably never happens, you could have only 12 people on each train, but my whole point wasn't that Whizzer never gets a line at all. However, there is a point when the park says it's not fullfilling it's line length (the line isn't long enough), and thus they will take it out. How many more people would a new attraction get compared to an old attraction? When the park thinks that a new attraction will do so much better than an old attraction, the old attraction will go. To me, you have to look at not only how many riders a ride got in a day, but also line length. Really, it could be possible that you get a 5 minute wait for a roller coster at a park for the entire day and night. Let's say it's always 5 minutes, and thus the train is always getting full, but you see the line lenght has gone done so much that, that particular roller coaster would not be worth keeping. Just ride rides while you still can because anything is game to leave at any amusement park. It's all what management thinks is going to bring more people.

People complain about wanting something new, but won't let go to something old. They've kept Whizzer for too long, and now, if they want to remove it, it won't go without a fight. Better have them keep it.

And idk where you got the idea that Whizzer isn't habing long lines. Last time I was there Whizzer had a FULL queue.

You do realize how fast plans can get changed right? I don't want to start another argument or anything but you were not right all along. I'm basing this off rumors which I believe 80%... Also they could say something one day and it could be completely different the next time. Thats just things can be changed quickly. For all we know you guys were getting Bonzai Beach and a separate gated water park but at the last minute plans changed again and now you're getting something else. Who knows?

BLADE-I wasn't just pushing a water park expansion, I was also saying a coaster to.

Wow. Hank just stood up there and flat out lied. They had every intention of putting in Chang. He said that, "We were just preparing that if we were going to get it, we would have everything in order. There was no concrete evidence."

They had plans, they had track, they had blueprints. They began advertising a new attraction.

Facepalm.

I would expect him to be honest and say that, "plans change." They shouldn't have to create some master plan to shut people up. I would be happy with him basically saying, "When the new management stepped in, they believed that Chang would be a better fit at a different park." That would have been the easiest thing to say, and the most truthful.
