Iron Wolf's Future

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Goku1910 on July 7th, 2010, 7:10 pm
Thanks for pointing out the completely obvious. What I was getting at is since the cancellation on the Chang plans, people have been discussing more one the topic of "What are we getting?" and "What about Wolf?". Which is why this topic is completely pointless now.

How on earth is it pointless to discuss the future of a coaster on a coaster site?

FACEPALM.

Because it's already been discussed in this topic a few times: great-america-forum/topic10194-2400.html

(Which Galvan locked it, Thankfully)

And this isn't JUST a coaster site, it's a Great America site. If you want to talk about coasters, and only coasters, take it to another forum and drive them out of their mind, leave us to our peace of mind.

A lot of people don't like an ignorant teenager (like you), me being one of them. I couldn't stand being in high school with the idiots I graduated with, all ignorant and need to do just a little growing up.

it means I find him ignorant and an annoyance. No disrespect, but seriously, we've all been there once, right?

^ If you've been there once, then you wouldn't start a war about this. Seriously, are you that much of an uptight person to say that you were better than everyone in your class.

Anyways, Iron Wolf, no more than 3 more years. Lock it up if you want, since I'm to ignorant to understand how amazing the almighty GoKu is.

I really cant stand all the Flaming on this forum. This is a SFGAm site, i come on here to read and discuss about SFGAm, not to see everyone attacking each other. Some of you really need to get past your hard feelings and forget about it. Goku and David, if you are going to continue this, please do it in PM, because I, nor anyone else, wants to hear it.

Without a MAJOR update/rehab on the ride in the near future, Iron Wolf does not have a future. No matter what David says.

Agreed, but Iron Wolf is still fun when you ride in the front. I love it's track layout enough to keep riding it like demon.

Couldn't a ride like Batman at Six Flags New England fit into that spot? I have never riden it, but it looks like(size wise) about the same size as Iron Wolf, give or take.

Someone suggested that a while back. It would be close, but I think it could be made to fit.

I think everyone agrees that Iron Wolf is a lot of bang for your buck. It has a small, exciting, and compact layout. The only thing that makes the ride suckle is all the head banging. The head banging isn't even due to the track, in my mind its due to the fact its a stand up. When you think about heartlines for a stand up they are going to be much less accurate on a standup than a sit down. Let me explain, if you think of two people of different height one tall one medium. The heartline is set for the medium person (hypothetically). On a sit down ride the heartline of the taller person is going to be a little higher so they are going to get some discomfort but not a lot because there torso is a little taller. On a stand up, the heart is going to be much higher up so therefore more discomfort because now the entire body is taller not just the torso. Makes sense I hope. Basically there is more range of height on a stand up than a sit down. So I am still standing by my hope that either they get new standup trains to make it a little better, or they make it a sitdown.

Yeah, but Georgia Scorcher (which is almost like a clone of Iron Wolf), Riddler's Revenge, and Mantis are nowhere as bad Iron Wolf in my opinion.

^GA Scorcher is not even close to Iron Wolf's layout on a whole. It also provides a good ride and is actually my favorite stand-up.

I think what makes a stand up good is if it is more spread out and has more space with less fast turns and helixes and better transitions. If you look at Chang it is really long and has a lot of space to work with, therefore it has no quick whip-arounds. Iron Wolf is really only rough when it goes onto the brake platform because it whips your head and on the corkscrews and helixes, the straight track and the loop aren't rough at all. However, Iron Wolf has really bad transitions for a stand up. The transitions on Georgia Scorcher are much smoother compared to Iron Wolf and therefore less head banging.

If/when IW goes, it won't be going because of Chang - and that's finally official! No more screwed up articles with misquotes. :)

So either stand ups will become extinct from our lineup in the near future, or they will want Wolf to get some rehab/makeover eventually. Stand ups are probably the least popular design so even though Chang is not coming (Stupid situation all the way from the start), it still does not mean Wolf is safe. They just have other issues to deal with.

Chang by ALL means is not a gift to any park. It is 13 years old, a stand up, and from what everyone has said is nothing special. Smoother than Wolf only. You know when Six Flags Great Adventure gets Chang they will not get anything major for a while? I would rather wait a bit longer and get something more special than Chang. SFKK leftovers are nothing to brag about. I would have liked to ride Chang, but I never got excited about it because it was still a stand up. Hate riding standing up end of story.

^Chang was something special as a coaster, by people's thoughts on stand-ups kill any chance of it being a smash hit. At a park that had never had a stand-up (SF STL) it would have been a huge hit.

I think those seats wouldn't lock. They would just keep bouncing. At least that's what a ride op told me.
