Possibly working at the park next summer

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I live and go to school in Memphis, but I am considering the possibility of working at Six Flags Great America next summer (or possibly the next). I have family that lives in Wadsworth about 5 minutes from the park that would be willing to allow me to live with them for the summer while I worked. While I'd love to be a ride attendant at one of the larger attractions at the park, I'd be happy to have just about any job at the park.

I'll be in Chicago for about a week next month and I'll be visiting the park in person to ask a few questions. Where would be the place to go or would it be better to call?

However, before I go and ask them any serious questions, I have a few general questions you guys might be able to help me with.

1. I own and operate a coaster website. What is Six Flags' policy on this? I know some companies do not want their employees engaging in websites that deal with their "industry" so to speak. If I was forced to de-attach myself completely from the website, that might change my interest in working at the park.

2. When would be the ideal time to begin applying? What are my chances of being hired as someone who lives out of state? How would the interview process be done since I live such a distance away?

3. This is rather minute, but every year I go on a week-long mission trip to Appalachia with my church. Going on this trip would require me being gone for 11-12 days. Any idea if they would be willing to allow me to go? I'd be willing to sacrifice it, but I'd rather go if at all possible. That's the only time I can see me not being available.

I would appreciate any pointers you might be able to offer. I might have some more questions as time goes on!

This is a great site, BTW. I love SFGAm, and it's been great reading through the forum.

1. Yes you will have to completely detach yourself from your website.
2. Best time is typically around Jan/Feb. As long as you have local family being out of state won't matter at all.
3. This mainly depends on your department, but as long as you can give the exact dates before you are hired it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the reply RagingBullFan.

Hmm... I'm not sure I can let the site go for an entire summer. I'll have to think on that one for a while. But at least other than that everything seems good.

WOW I didn't know this, can't you just transfer the site to a friend?

^ That's definitely a possibility. I have someone else who writes stuff for the site, but all of the postings on the site are not assigned an author, so I don't know how they would tell that I had transferred it to that person.

I really want to work at the park.

That will work just make sure the whois on the domain/website is not directed to you.

If it's that major of a problem that I have to change the whois information then I doubt I'll be pursuing it any longer. That's a little bit ridiculous.

Guys, Coaster101 is in no way related to SFGAm. It's a general coaster website.

And SFGAmZone is run by JonRev.lol

As long as you aren't posting negative opinions and inside information about the park then you should be fine.

I'm not an employee right now so I don't see the harm in posting a url, though I have removed it just to be on the safe side.
