I was wondering how many other people caught that park model that was in the gift shop near the area where SSA used to be. I happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye as my friend and I were leaving the park for lunch. It was really cool to see that, and to actually see the park acknowledging it's history for once. I hope that finds a permanent location to stay on display to the public. Also, there were a lot of people around it that seemed to be either old park employees and/or other coaster enthusiasts. I have a strong suspicion that some of them that were there are people that post here. If you were one of those people there, it was nice to meet you and cool to hear some of the stories you had about the park. I just wish I had my camera when I saw that.
I DID! We were walking past, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw the old Great America logo with Marriotts above it, and I got excited like a kid! It is the 1978 park model- the year Tidal Wave debuted, and it was so cool to see in person (I had seen pictures of this model on the net, but never in person). Thank you, Six Flags, for putting this out in the open for the public to see! Now, I only wish we could get the Tidal Wave back for real...
On a side note, I was pleased to see all the Christian t-shirts for sale at that clothing store across from the Great American raceway- it was the same store that had all that Obama merchandise last year...
^As someone who was not born then, I LOVED it. It's always nice to see parks acknowledge the past. Seeing the look in the eyes of people who went then as a kid and bring their kids now was a priceless. They had the same twinkle in their eye they probably did as a kid.
just so everyone knows, i was there twice. my girlfriend was there too. i was the one with the short brush cut hair and stocky built and short sleeve hoodie that had an 8 on the sleeves and on the chest. if anyone remembers me lemme know!
What's really funny, is that you think I'm from the GP (General Public). When indeed, I most likely know far more about the coaster, as I've rode it multiple times.
