The only whines I heard in Whizzer's queue line where from Coaster Enthusiasses so I dont know where some of you people can get off saying "The GP Cares"... no they dont all they want is to have a nice experience on Whizzer.
Then why did my sister go "Why the hell are there karate kid ads on the carts?"
^ No....just like I wouldn't stop riding a coaster because of a plastic insert that (gasp!!!) covers the fronts of a coaster car...it's just another example of how various types of media are outsourced and how they affect the population. To me, the physics behind how the ride operates has not changed...it's still the Whizzer...and it still does what it's been doing the past 34 seasons.
Plus, the ads are obviously doing what they are supposed to....getting people to notice them to spark publicity (whether that is positive or negative...they still did their job) and...in the long run...GAm is getting money from the ad agency (or whoever) to promote their product(s).

But the thing is that they've done WAY more than that and WAY more than other rides in the park that have ads on them. Taking your billboard-highway analogy, a ride with a couple ads on it would be billboards, but Whizzer's ads would be more like a tunnel with ads plastered all over the walls with nothing else to see. I just don't like how Whizzer looks now. Other rides with a couple ads haven't really bugged me, but this really does.

Those trucks advertise the products the company owns, not something completely random. I don't know about you, but when a Wal-Mart owned truck drives by, it tends to not have movie ads on it.

support this deceptions? what the hell does that mean? is that english?
And yes, I think most of us think that highway signs are annoying. Especially if you drive down I-80 going into Indiana and every other billboard is for that one fireworks store.
Advertising does nothing but make me turn against the product being advertised usually. Plus The Karate Kid looks like a pretty lame addition to the series. It will probably suck ass. Jackie Chan with a kid? That hasn't been done before...
I dont think I have ever heard anyone mention an advertisement giving a positive spin on a product (minus beer commercials being funny around the Super Bowl...doesn't make me want that beer though). Name recognition or whatever the intention is... for the most part it is nothing but a way for the park to make a quick buck by distastefully plastering ugly advertisements over the rides you all love.
Some of you defending this are probably more hardcore in terms of visiting often, and loving the park's past much more so than I am. I even remember trying to justify how Cedar Point is a better park and getting attack after attack about how much better the theming is at GAm..
With cheap, tacky advertising on classic rides and in my face at every turn...the theming has become all but irrelevant.
There is no comparison to highways, you don't go on the highway for a day of enjoyment/relaxation/fun. And on the tollways (where the ads are..) it is FAR from enjoyable since I am still paying every time I drive on one, AND still looking at a billion fireworks and strip club ads.
Call me an idiot, but when I walk around a theme park with a good deal of history, and want to enjoy a nice day out in the summer, I don't need to hear the park advertising their lame artists they will be showcasing over the summer on repeat and loop more than KISS FM's lineup, and having to think about disgusting mayonnaise before I ride a bumpy stand up coaster.
I would rather pay $10 more per season pass to rid us of tacky advertising and get a better coupon booklet. The intrinsic and extrinsic value is worth it.

You "support this deceptions" ... read that over again a few times and let me know if that makes sense, and I didn't offtrack the topic.. you would see that if you finished the rest of my huge post
Nicely put Wishman, and I would definitely classify myself as one who visits often and is a lover of the parks history. I agree with your points completely!
