2010 opening day April 17th?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

But under that description a thunderstorm could be anything from only the "sound" of thunder to thunder + ligtning + HEAVY rain. This just doesn't look very good. I only live 30+40 minutes away via highway, so It looks like I'll go either way.

That doesn't sound too bad.

It can not be stressed enough to go with the National Weather Service forecast over weather.com or any other site.

Now if they would PLEASE stop school groups from coming during the week in May. We would all have a PERFECT time to go while the kiddies and soccer moms are doing their school functions.

I always forget how much I can dread May and the start of June haha. As soon as you pull into that parking lot, take a look at the bus lot and you will figure out how the day will go.

Personally I just loathe when the inner city school groups come because then it is a day of non stop basketball bouncing from those damn basketballs they give away.

I dont think I can count on one hand how many times the wannabe basketball stars mess up their dribble and the ball bounces right at me

Would it make you feel better if I just said the "all- African American school groups" ? I wasn't saying anything that degraded a race..

I won't argue with you though, every topic I have read in the last few months has pages of you complaining, and I don't argue with teenage attention whores

There is no winning in this situation, so I won't say anymore. But I am sure those who go to the park during school group season know what I mean with the basketballs bouncing everywhere.

Never have seen something like that in my years of going. White kids are annoying as well. The basketball thing was the most annoying for me though is all.

I could give a damn, I am friends with people of all spectrums.

School groups are the cancer of SFGam, they are the difference between dead days in May and long weekday lines.

What the h*** does any of the above comments have to do with opening day?

On the other hand, I agree with wishman on the school groups, and the wannabe NBA stars. Next time a basketball rolls towards your feet, give a little extra stride in your step, and give it a good kick. When I went to school, we never went to an amusement park for a school function.

Back on topic, this will be the first time since the park openend that I will not be attending opening day :(.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.

Glad someone agrees with me, I thought I was going to be chewed out for it. And sorry about being off topic, but it does have to do with the opening weeks and month. I probably mentioned it because going next Friday or during the week in the next few weeks seemed like a good idea... BUT then I remembered the school groups and was saddened.

I am sure the next responses will be along the lines of "They are not a big deal, go have fun.." .. it doesn't make the day less fun, it just would be nice to go to the park on a May weekday with just general public. It would be DEAD and nice out.

^^ Do you live to far and the whole rain situation?
That's the only reason I'm a bit hesitant.

But most likely, see you there!

And thus the park would not be open without said school groups.

Ive seen days without school groups that are more dead and the park stays open. Few and far between, but they are a little slice of heaven

I URGE you to check this out. It shows that Gurnee will get at MOST 1'' of rain, which over a whole day, couldn't be THAT bad. This made me happy. Also if you look at the Doppler radar, you can see that the rain formations fly past gurnee, only skimming the edges of Illinois.

Ill concede that the morning/afternoon will be your best shot, but everything I have seen so far is showing the evening/night to be horrible.

So check it out when you get up tomorrow and if there is rain everywhere...may as well just hold off. Trust me I want to go tomorrow to get my season parking, get my coupons walk around the park and thats it....but if its just nasty, there is no reason

I'll be there at 12:00ish. if the park is dead and conditions are good, I'll find a way to get the word out. Your damn right I want to go, I've been waiting months to hug Wolfie. Finally, we shall be together.

For those like me who live an hour or more away SKIP. If you just want to walk around and wait for the rain to stop/start by all means knock yourselves out.

I took off work to go, so I will go no matter what the weather is(its been way too long since I've ridden a coaster). My hope is it rains very hard till 9ooam to discourage people then stops and the park isn't too busy!!
Its always nice to go early in the season and see what has changed or been updated.

Well, its a little after midnight and im currently checking the weather for later today, when the park opens in like 10 hours. It looks like the worst weather should be right when the park opens. Here is the link: http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/USIL0501

Basically there is a 50% chance of rain at 10am, then 40% chance at 11am, then stays at 30% chance of rain for the rest of the day. I should remind everyone that there is always a 10% chance for rain. Or at least thats what the signs at the ticket booths always say everyday of the season. Plus if it does rain, hopefully all the rain happens early morning and stops later in the day. Plus we are only supposed to get between 0.5"-1" of rain at most. Thats makes me optimistic for an ok opening day. As ive said, i dont care how cold it is as long as it doesnt rain!

Time to go to bed now because the park opens in less than 10 hours!!! :D  :) :!:

So far the weather is holding up! Still crummy out though, but its not raining. Just wet and chilly outside.

May drop by depending on the weather around noon. Not worth a spending the whole day though

I'm 10-15 min from the park in Libertyville and the weather is not bad here right now. A little chilly, but the rain has stopped for now. However, it looks like the sky is going to open up at any moment. I'll keep you guys posted.

It's very damp outside. I'm thinking this is going to be a good opening day. Looking at the doppler radar, it seems a bit of rain may be heading our way in a little bit. I say it's going to be a good day, with a bit of moisture, and NO LINES! :)
