It's actually quite common. I'll bet this will be the 4th year in a row without Orbit
I wonder if Condor will be open due to the reported rehab/paint job it received over the past month or so.
Oh, no not another LED ride. Sure, LEDs don't look that bad, but I like the other regular bulbs better. The only ride I would want them to fix with not necessarily LEDs is Big Easy Balloons. It just doesn't look that great at night to me. To me, it looks worse at night than during the day. It's probably because the lights are white, and the balloons are not white, and it's also because the white doesn't change to another color like on Whirligig, or Triple Play. Those white lights flicker on and off whereas BEB doesn't.
For the LEDs, a complaint I have about them for the Six Flags rides are that you really can't see them when it's a little dark whereas the other lights, you can see them. The carnival LEDs to me are much better than Six Flags Great America's version even though I still like the old light bulbs better.
For the Condor, why would they do a paint job?. They just did one not that far ago. The only thing as in paint job I would see them doing is the tower. Why do the cars unless they are going to theme it to Robin cars, or something?

I was at Six Flags yesterday for the Advocate Health Care private event and Condor was open. All of the coasters were open. Oh and about V2...The holding breaks were not in use.
Well im kinda glad to hear The Orbit does still operate. I dont like to ride it, but good for those who love the ride. I mean, a ride like that is a staple in any amusement park or carnival. Also, since the brakes on V2 did not work on the advocate day, im hoping they will be in use on opening day. Or at least fix the brakes at the latest by end of may. Ive never experienced the ride with working brakes. Im eager to see what it feels like. Either that and the fact that I want V2 to be operating on opening day. Last 2 years ive gone within the first couple of weeks after opening day and im pretty sure i remember V2 being closed. Hmmm. We'll see hopefully...

I highly doubt that. As cool as that would be, they would never get that done in-season, and that is an expensive fix.

Really??? Oh darn. I heard from somewhere on this site that the brakes would be fixed. Hmm...well maybe next year then? Whatever, its not an emergency anyway.
Any warranty would have been up a long time ago or else it would have been fixed(generally it's a one year warranty against defects) And Intamin could care less what the park does with V2, they are paid in full for the ride and have been for a long time.

Sadly, it seems both B&M and Intamin have no chance of bringing in anything to the table for our park in the future (excluding Chang and mabe a water ride down the line). the park already counts V2 as one of (if not the) most pricey rides to run. Fixing the brake to them means extra $$ which is not a necessity at this turning time for SF Inc.
Ahh.. i just always wondered why it's not like shuttle lopps where it's just a end piece, where it would just hit it and bounce back, this one has like bumpers and stuff.
(Also is it true that if someone applies to much pressure on one of the gates, the ride activates the light curtain?
david wrote:I wonder what Intamin thinks of the park not using the holding break, and if that affects the warrantee.
Yeah thats it, Intamin really cares if SFGam is using the holding brake.
Im not an expert in holding brakes or hell even Rollercoasters, but I will say this, Im pretty sure that as far as Impulse coasters go, most of the parks that have them, Dont use the holding brake. I know that the whatever it was called at Geauga Lake never used the holding brake after a series a problems with the ride.
Now I dont know if its the case with the ride now since its rebuilt at Dorney Park though.
david wrote:(Also is it true that if someone applies to much pressure on one of the gates, the ride activates the light curtain?
I don't think that triggers a light curtain, but any of the coasters with airgates can shut down if someone puts to much pressure on an airgate. Deja Vu's airgates were particularly sensitive. I remember many times when Deja Vu shut down due to someone shaking the airgates.
^ Yeah....no, that would be too much pressure and sustained stress on the track if that actually were the case...the "Holding Brake" feature was not designed to hold/stop a train there in the event of an emergency stop or a light curtain.
david wrote:That would suck. What happens if the Light Curtain activates while your on the back spike?
The train would come back down. The ride can only stop at 2 different points which are the station and the launch/brake run (or somewhere in-between both)....and since I doubt it'll ever be fixed there's not a need to worry.
My guess on the holding brake is that they don't want to fix it because they don't have to fix it. The ride will still work if they do absolutely nothing. Those have to some strong magnetics up there, or they are going to break easily. They are holding those passengers even for 5 seconds 90 degrees in the air.
I think Deja Vu at least broke 1 motor for a tower - doing the same thing, but with cables. This is with magnetics. So, why keep on putting the money into the ride when they feel no one will really care? They probably feel that people will still ride the ride anyway, and probably just forget about it.
