I know this is a stupid question but what exactly goes on during the off season in the winter. I mean they can't do much in the snow can they?
2010 is going to be one to remember forever!!

Lots of inside stuff is done. Painting and such. Cleaning. The flat rides are completley torn apart and worked over, but not all at once. The mainenance shop is filled with the coaster trains and flat ride parts that are reconditioned. The coaster trains are totally torn apart.Other than that, not much happens. The mainenance guys grow beards and go snowmobiling through the park (that last part was made up)

I just wonder what the hell is going on with Shock Wave, and why it hasn't been moved yet.
Nothing to see here....

Greatamerica, after tearing the trains apart, do they fix them up and then put them back together, or replace them?

They take them apart, and rebuild them to ensure that thre is no loose parts and stuff. They also replace all of the wheels on all of the coasters. Besides that, I heard they use 2,300 gallons of paint around the park in the off season.

My source said it was 2,298 gallons of paint.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

What ever happened to the shockwave trains. Are they still there or have they been moved. Does it look like Shockwave is moving at all? I was at Great America in May and the very last day and from what i remember, it all looks the same. Can anyone back me up?************************We wil always remember Shockwave.

I can tell you at SFWoA when it snows they shovel many paths around the park and they make sure that all the rides aren't freezing over or any damage to them. Also, all the trains are left sitting out to freeze over here at SFWoA! I am going to yell at them for that one. Sometimes they will retrack coasters, or paint stations... maybe put up some new signs. They do whatever they can to make it ready for opening day next year!

On topic, off topic.....you decide, but over the winter I'm going to the park for open auditions for some shows so maybe I'll be able to see what goes on in the offseason....by the way....do you think they'll fix up the pavement? I know in 2001 when I went for season pass processing they had pavement torn up everywhere in hometown, and I'm pretty sure last year and this year they didnt do that...true? Somebody help me out here...

I bet they aren't that good. It seems like they'll hire any body at SFGAm.

Acually the actors, actresses, musicians, and preformers are pretty talented. They do just as much as preformers outside of six flags. I think that they may have pretty good jobs (unlike rideops or sweepers). But to keep on topics, I think that they probably start practicing for shows. Also making sure the theaters are in top shape.

Yes they put the trains back together after every part is looked over and replaced if needed. We don't replace the entire train, just parts that need to be replaced.

greatamerica2003......would you happen to know exactly what shows you can audition for this winter(ex. only summer shows in Grand Music Hall... Fright Fest shows, etc), i have heard different things and the website doesn't give a good description of shows to audition for, plus I was told by quite a few people that there is another audition in August(only for fright fest) but other people tell me its all done in Feb....which is true??? :?
