Now I'm not sure about others, but when I was younger, my parents were very smart. hey would get any discount possible, we would use general parking, bring food in a cooler, and not play any games, or additional pay rides, unless they were really worth it. My mom said that our last visit as a family (2005) we brought $400 and left with $200. If only everyone were to do things like this, to save money everywhere. Well, then SF would not be here.
wah wah wah, theming is pointless. ZOMG THIS DOESNT BELONG HERE LETS BOYCOT THE PARK FOR INSTALLING A NEW ATTRACTION THAT WE DIDNT WANT. SHAPIRO IS EVIL. EVERY YEAR NEW COASTER!
What's really funny, is that you think I'm from the GP (General Public). When indeed, I most likely know far more about the coaster, as I've rode it multiple times.
Here is what I find funny. All the SFGAm Fanboys want to park to be just like Marriott with the themed sections and such. Well the truth is, that actually WORKED in a theme park. Marriott did very well and they didn't need to add a new coaster every year. Now what Six Flags is doing right now isn't working that well because the company is still in debt. Now look how successful Disney is as a park.
So the formula for a large successful park is either... A- Build awesome "thrill seeker" coasters and attractions every year B- Have a well themed "Disney/Family" park (like Marriott)
Now what the company is doing now is not working as it seems like it is pissing off more people then making people happy. Sure it will make the park money in the short term, but in the long term people will stop going to the park. They will have no reason to come back. Which is actually what is starting to happen to me. I just go in and I am bored. It has nothing to do with the coasters, it's just the atmosphere itself.
For example if the park is going to advertise "worlds cleanest theme park"...actually make it clean! Both Marriott and Disney knew what they were doing and compare the style of there parks compared to the "New" Six Flags parks...
So I normally don't log in to comment these days on this forum but I couldn't resist today:
Theming is something that's very important to me and apparently many others on this site. However, I don't understand how a video game turned live action doesn't fit the theme of a fair. Sure the whole magic thing may not fit the County Fair theme exactly, but have you been to a modern fair?! Its a collection of over priced rides and games....isn't that what this is in a nut shell?!
In regards to the upcharge, i'm all for it if it guarentees that the multiple points of interaction remain in tact throughout the years. It takes a lot to keep all these little interactive features working properly. No one wants another Den of Thieves here, lets hope the park uses the added income to continue and possibly expand upon the gadgets within the ride.
Lastly, this attraction will DEFINITELY bring in the families, which is essentially what this year is about. With Kiddieland closed, its nice to see that the young ones still have modern entertainment to enjoy at an amusement parks!! Nice idea Six Flags!!!!

As much as I hate seeing theming go away at Six Flags Great America, we do have to put ourselves in Mark Shapiro's shoes. This is business were talking about. Lets start it at this, we all know Shapiro has grown up with Six Flags Great America, but as for his business partners, eh doubt it. They probably can care less about the theme or how it was in the past. They are BUSINESS men/women running the park, not some coaster enthusiasts. When they take down a classic section of the park, like the Game Area in County Fair, they can care less as about the Marriott days as long as the new section brings in money.
Now, we also have to think about the situation Six Flags is in. Nationally, Six Flags is known for its rides, not the theme sections. BUT, Six Flags is in a pickle here. They have to live up to their reputation, however, they have financial issues (I suppose). Bad debts in a bad recession era. Installing MagiQuest, Little Dipper, Wiggles world ect. was a good point of view business wise, not coaster enthusiast wise.
We shouldn't blame Mark Shapiro, we should blame management that was BEFORE Mark Shapiro. They turned a lot of Six Flags theme parks into a parking lot with rides and billboards. Now Mark Shapiro is trying his best to bring the company up to a marketing profit. So that mean's there are going to bring more tacky advertisements and more tacky kid rides until the park gets back into good shape.
However, at the same time I do believe that they could work around a lot of the new attractions with the original theme. But like I mentioned earlier, these people running the parks are BUSINESS people probably from another state or god knows what, but definitely not coaster enthusiasts.
If we coaster freaks ran the park it will probably be the neatest and have all these great roller-coasters inside, but where are all the business knowledge when we need it? (Please business majors in college dont respond by being a smartass)
No matter how hard it is...Never EVER give up. The real failure is those who dont try.
In order for people to want to come back year after year, they have to make the park a unique experience. It's cool that they are adding rides to the park. However it wouldn't kill them to theme the park in the process. If they can spend spend a few million a ride, they can shell out the extra capital to at least incorporate it in the park. And sure they can put ads all over the place, but the ads are just as effective, and most likely ever more effective, when they actually look like they fit into the park.
That is where they are being stupid about this. Make the park a special and unique place where guest feel like they are in a whole new world. It works great with other parks, why can't Six Flags do the same thing?

Are you suggesting that the park wasn't clean last season?
Maybe A Great Day Is Just What You Need This Year '09 Demon rides-50 '09 SFGAm Visits-21
Park was for the most part not dirty last year, though I wouldn't call it necessarily "clean" I could probably rattle off a minimum of a dozen parks if not 2 dozen that I would consider far and above SFGAm in the cleanliness department.

Not positive, but I think Magiquest has been around for quite a bit longer than Harry Potter. That basically is the fanbase they are looking at though I'm sure.

While i'm all for the idea, as i've previously written, I'm not sure its a good thing that there is another one so close in Lombard. http://www.magiquest.com/yorktown-center/ I'm interested to see what they release their prices as!

I am a big Harry Potter fan read all the books and have seen all the movies but you can virtually get the same game experience by buying a wii console and the 2 Harry Potter titles. Come on Six Flags gotta get some better ideas than this!!!!!! AND SERIOUSLY AN ADDITIONAL COST GET REAL PEOPLE WE ARE IN A RECESSION/DEPRESSION.
Wrong and Wrong. We are in neither.
Additionally, if you're spending 50 bucks to get into the park in the first place, something tells me a family could handle another twenty if they really wanted to. It's another addition which is nice, especially since practically noone went back into County Fair games anymore anyway...
Well then according to you what is the economy in then because whatever it is it aint good!
Whats everyone complain about at least we got something its better than nothin from a company emerging from bankruptcy and bad economy and all its better than nothing beside if it doesnt work out in the future they could always just put in an indoor family themed coaster or an indoor dark ride if the company goes bust. The area where the attraction is not going to be a waste of space or a disappointing addition for the park.
What? They are replacing ALL of the games in county fair with this magiquest thing? oh hell no. Those games were awesome. As long as they dont get rid of Wii Expierience, then im good.
