Official Questions/Ideas Topic

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

^Changing the name to Gotham City would be the most convinient, but it would completely ruin part of the parks originality. The last thing I want to see, is our Great America turn into a Complete Sell out Pop Park, like the one in California. I think an Aqua Man conversion wouldn't be a bad idea at all, all they have to do is make a good commercial for it, & it would be an instant hit! Plus we already have the Dark Knight, why do we need 2 Batman themed coasters.

Let's not forget that BTR is a ACE Landmark. It was the first inverted looper, give it some respect, and keep it's originality. :)

Only reason, couldn't they have refurbed it? Any pictures of it before it was taken down or during deconstruction?

^ The ride was dead. The company that made the ride has been out of business for years. The originally had something like 9+ boats and by the end, only 2, maybe 3 were usable. On top of that, the ride was leaking everywhere.

I dont think it ever had more than 4-5 Boats, though it's final year it was down to 1-2 boats. No one ever went into detail really, but from the sounds of things it was becoming structurally unsound.

Also during it's removal there was a fatality early in the process, so pics are pretty much non existent. Never really looked it up but I'm sure there are lots of pics of the ride when it was operating on this site or greatamericaparks.com

Snapped this pic while testing Sky Trek tower sometime in March 08. It still burns my eyes seeing Vu in that state :(

^Thanks! Seems that the paint was quite a bit faded.

Answers my question. Thanks!

Wackiest idea Ever:

Our 2011 gift is a Thomas Town, which goes over in the SSA area. Dipper is over there, which can explain the rush to remove SSA. Wouldn't like this, but with the way things have been on making our park "family-friendly" I don't think we should discredit this.

Or it could also be the HH expansion as I earlier stated. either one, I wouldn't like. (My opinion)

Well in 08 I was on Both Logger's Run and Yankee Clipper and they were both leaking. It was a fairly simple ride another company would not be able to make parts for it?? MAybe they could turn SWF into something like Perilous Plunge or Pilgrim's Plunge.

They would never do that as:

A) Splash Water Falls lost popularity in later years
B) It was about 20 years old and it started showing on the structure
C) Leaks were worsening and as an employee told me it became an "insect pond"

^ Wolfie doesn't need new paint, it just needs new trains. But it seems that Wolfie's getting Chang's, so that should be fine! The fact that it's a very dark color (brown or red or burgundy or whatever.) helps out with the maintenance, physically that is.

Actually dark colors increase maintenaince. Absorbs more heat from the sun, magnifies expansion and contractions, causes lots of issues. That's why BTR at SFMM is Gray, they used to have a black stand up that was a pain in the butt, rather than repaint it they volunteered it into the ride rotation program to get rid of it.

Probably the same reasoning for SFGAm painting our BTR yellow...

^^Wolfie is no longer as dark as it once was. I just hope it doesn't get re-painted, as that would mess up the whole rustic look. And I hope the trains are re-done with metal rather than plastic.

I may be attending No Coaster Con 2010, and I was wondering what the "atire" is for such an event, and what the general atmosphere is. Thanks!

NoCoaster Con

Attire: Casual. Mustard Stained T-shirt and jeans is the norm. (sadly that isn't a joke)
General Atmosphere: hugely nerdy. It used to be entertaining and still can be, it depends what parks show up, who they send, and what kind of ride they're getting if any. Jeff Siebert from Schlitterbahn is always fun, was more fun though when he worked at Kings Island, sometimes he throws an after-party, though it's geared pretty much exclusively to the 21+ crowd.

^ More No Coaster Con information.

Here's a link to the flier:

http://www.aceonline.org/fliers/NCC2010.pdf

You can register for the event online, or by sending in the form from the flier. Registration must be done by Jan 5, 2010. No on-site registration.

As Mike said, it can be a fun event depending on the parks that show up, and who they send. Most parks give away stuff (everyone is entered 2 times into the giveaways), and they usually have a few auction items to boot. Food is included, and for me, the food has been good. Some years it has not been so hot, but the past few have been good.

I will be in attendance, and if you go, I look forward to seeing you.

I hopefully look forward to seeing all of you at the event, I hope GAm sends Salami, rather than their PR lady. He's always so forward, and that's awesome.
