Official Off Season Talk Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby onyxhotel08 on November 2nd, 2009, 10:07 am
Well now that the park is closed for the next 5 months, I wanted to start this thread to know all the happenings at the park when the public is not there. What are some of the first things done to prepare for the winter? How long does it take to clear out all the stores? Do ll the trains come down at the same time? Or one by one? Is Great America a dead zone from Thanksgiving till they audition for 2010? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wow I would love to see that as the SSA will need to be prepared for Chang by mid-2010. Lots of cool things to see next season.

From the standpoint of seasonal employees......yes, but not from the perspective the full-time people who do all of the behind the scenes work for the start of the next season. I would assume that many of these departments find it hard to take "vacations" due to time vs. tasks that need to be accomplished, but everyone has started full-force today and will continue to do so throughout the next 5 months.

According to Shapiro Change won't even be put up anywhere until 2011. It will also most likely be under a new name and theme for Shapiro didn't like the existing one. More info here- http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2009/ ... ll-ii.html

^Well, I hated that name too, Chang.

Chang means long in Chinese. It was the longest stand up coaster when it opened.

Mark Shapiro supposedly disliked the name also but it does make sense...every park needs one major ride and Chang was popular for SKK goers.

Chang was popular for the majority of people who went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom even if their attendance did not warrant such a huge addition. Chang was not even 15 million though think 10-12M.

Don't be paranoid because they have no way of finding out who you are and they most likely don't care. Now if you had your name on an article and sent it to a new station, then you would have a problem.

Many people from many parks have been fired for posting info on usenet and message boards. HW has banned people for life based on message board posts. You'd be surprised.

^That's Holiday World though. They are just paranoid about there 1 click ride footage and images being leaked and it being used against them in court for when the ACEr got thrown off Raven.

As long as you don't post your name, address, links to facebook myspace and youtube, and photos of yourself they will have a very difficult time finding out who you are.

I can't connect with it. At the time, I rode that ride I didn't even know what that name meant. Now, that I know what it means, it's still a stupid name. Long, seriously? Goliath means a tall man like in the Bible, but yet that has more meaning to me than just something that is just a long coaster. Medusa I can't connect with either. All I care to know about her is that she has snakes in her hair.

Scream! is a pretty stupid name too, but that doesn't mean I won't like riding it. Back to that other arguement about people not liking Scream!, it's name is Scream!, and it's over a parking lot. No wonder why people are complaining about it. I much rather have Scream! than Raging Bull, Viper, Ragin Cajun', and American Eagle though. Call it the same name, and put a parking lot. As long we got it, I would be happy though.

Shockwave to me isn't a good name. I really like that ride at SFOT (besides the Great American one - I didn't like the Great America one, but that's my opinion.), but still that name to me stinks.

A name brings connection to me, and when I went on Chang, there was no connection whatsoever. It was just a great roller coaster to me.

Wrong again, They know me here as a former employee, they've known I was on this site since the day I was hired. There have been employees from SFGA fired for this, not just Holiday World.

^Yeah because you told them!

I am just saying that if they don't know you have an account, they will continue not to know unless you post your name, information, or you tell them.

What is the big deal about finding out Splash Water Falls will become Go Karts anyway? We know they cannot do everything next off-season as the rides construction will be long and daunting

You are aware that they can LOOK UP my Information right? All they need is my name really....which is on the application. This is the biggest discussion forum about the park. And Why would I tell them? It's not like I wanted them to know. And if you would check, it's not only that employees aren't allowed to give out information, it against forum rules.

Quoted from SFGAMWorld Forum Rules:

"Please be sure to abide by park rules and regulations at all times. Anything that breaks a park rule is not allowed on this website. If you break park rules you will also be banned from this website."

^Hmm, I believe confidential information must be kept confidential....that's an SFGAM regulation.

Sorry but I feel that s one of the dumbest rules I have ever heard of. So we are just going to guess whats going to happen? and have people upset when it doesn't happen? I feel like if you know some thing, and it is most likely true then say it it is better then every one arguing over it.

I think the rule makes perfect sense.

You nor anyone else should be breaking park rules/policy, so it really should be a non issue. If everyone around here was posting how they broke the rules and whatnot, the park would get pretty pissed pretty fast, and they could easily make like hell for the board administrators, if they so desire As far as rumors go, if exact info comes out before an announcement is made, a lot of people can get in a lot of trouble for breach of confidentiality or worse.
