New General Manager at SFGAm

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoasterDave316 on November 11th, 2003, 1:55 am
Alright, people have told me this is now public knowledge so for those of you who haven't heard yet, and I know some of you have. Jim Wintrode is no longer the G.M. at Six Flags Great America. Reports are Jim Wintrode is retiring this year. His Replacement is Tim Black who used to be SFGAdv's G.M.What changes will this bring? Will they be good or bad changes? What do you guys think?

I have mixed feelings about this. Honestly I have no clue how this is gonna turn out, hopefully the park will at LEAST stay the same, atmosphere, theming (from what I hear SFGAdv's B:TR sucks), and capacity. For a park, SFGAm has very good capacity (believe it or not 2 trains is a good thing for most people ). SFGAdv is basically the SFGAm of the east, and I know we will keep the park uniqueness.

I took a look at some of the SFGAdv pictures I found on the net, and the park looks clean, well kept, and well themed. I don't think we have much to worry about. Rememer that corporate has a lot of say in what happens, and the GM can only do so much.We also have a lot of the same leadership in charge there, so I think this may be good, or at least maybe nothing will change. I don't see things getting worse.

I dont understand what the hell you just said....lol....I've heard about this happening since the middle of Fright Fest but I thought it was just a rumor. Some people who told about this have been hearing good things about this new guy so I think next year will be fine, and maybe even better....who knows, maybe the year will be longer or the park hours. what do you guys think about 5-midnight on Fridays for Fright Fest? lol  That would be awesome!

I'm not too worried because great america and great adventure are two of the best six flags parks, and he has experience from gadv. Also, our park specializes in coasters, and lacks in landscaping, and family attractions. Gadv has a ton of family attractions, flats, and good landscaping so this might even out our park

I'm glad we have this guy now because he will probibly really imprve on the park in all aspects not just coasters. Yea, I still want a lot of coasters, but this guy won't be afraid to expand upon the park. Over the past five years, gadv has added hurricane harbor, 25 flats along with one coaster in 1999, Nitro in 2001, and superman in 2003.Mod Note: Section of post removed in order to avoid another pointless source discussion.

I'm sure he will do go things to help maintain the park, but I don't want him to go flat ride/family rids crazy. Yes, the park lacks in this area, but I don't want to see the next five or so years improvement with just all flats and family oriented stuff. Yes great adveture has lots of flats and I know we can use some more, but just don't cross the fine line of keeping flats and the amount of roller coasters somewhat equal. There has to be some type of expression out there that states something like:For every rollercoaster, there should be x amount of flats

I asked the people over at GAdv Source how they thought how he did as a GM. They said he was good except sometimes he closed down alot of rides but kept up games and other pay attractions.

Heck, that goes on at our park to SFGA 11.Staffing issues will do this everytime.Yes, this new GM should focus on flat rides and family attractions. We don't need more coasters right now.Go to PKI and find out how you can have alot of coasters, a waterpark(which is now going to be improved), a ton of flats, and the best damn kids areas of any park.

I think hes going to do a good job. He likes Arrow coasters so hopefully he will install an S&S-Arrow coaster. Maybe no more B&Ms for a few years :D. I bet he will add a lot of flats since there are only a handfull at the park and same with the family rides.

How do you get that? SFGAdv only has 2 Arrow coasters, and they have put in the same amount of B&M's that we have.

Does it really matter who the GM is? Seriously? The GM isnt going to make major decisions in the park, Six Flags Corp. is going to, NOT a GM, sure a GM will make some decisions but for the most part, it will not be this Tim Black guy making the moves. thats just my $.02

This guy can still say he wants new rides, and if he wants to add on to the park and atuff, cant he? I'm hoping that one of these days these six flags execs will realize that they dont have to tear out rides to add new ones, or coaster-cram parks, and take a look at this picture http://www.greatamericaparks.com/sg/ind ... irg003.jpg .

They have already used that parking lot space. Bull, Viper, Winners Go Kart Circle, S.S.A. and SUF all took up at least a little bit of parking lot. The only area I could see them ever expanding in the parking lot would be around S.S.A's spot.

I know, but have you ever heard of parking garages? The parking lot is about 82 acres, and the park is 100. They could nearly double it if they wanted.

Parking Garages? 700 Foot Tall Floorless coasters... Where do you people think the money is coming from for these improvments? Why cant we be content on what we already have, Hell people in other parts of the country would give there right arm for some of the things we have at GA.Take a look at the picture, Its from 1978, not exactly yesterday, the park has changed a ton since then. Im really getting tired of people on this fourm saying, "Well just rip out this or rip out that. While i know i have been guilty of saying rip out Whizzer but, most of the time thats to antagonize rather then root for its demise.Again this is my $.02
