Ride Rotation program

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Can anyone give me some back info on this program? When it started, when it ended, why it was discontinued, etc. You think this would be a good idea to bring back? Which rides might work for this program? Was Tidal Wave our parks only ride that participated?

I'm not sure but I also think Power Dive came from SFOG. On Theme Park Timelines, it was added and removed in 1985, and we got a Looping Starship in 1987.

It was at Magic Mountain and Great Adventure before Great America.

Even though Tidal Wave has now been at 3 parks, I don't believe it was part of the rotation program.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

People got it pretty well covered, so regarding Condor, it was actually a portable ride in Europe before SF bought it, after it came to the US I think it did SFGAvd and SFMM then here, however SF did buy 2 of them, so one could have been the other. Also not sure if Tidal Wave was intended to be part of it but alot of rides got stranded at parks in the early 90's that were in the program, such as Condor, Rolling Thunder and Shockwave here.

Word on the street is that the Ride Rotation Program is coming back, so parks can get new rides without bankrupt Six Flags having to actually pay for new rides. I don't think it's going to be a long term program like what Time Warner was doing, will probably be just a one time move, and will probably start as early as next year.

Needless to say the Ride Rotation program was a heck of a lot simpler back when Six Flags consisted of 8-9 or so parks.

My guess is if they bring it back they would put all the major parks in (SFGAm, SFMM, SFOT ect.)

The ride rotation program is a waste of money. Z-Force is trashed finally, Tidal Wave moved to 2 parks in such a short time, and so was Rolling Thunder also 2 times. Taking a ride from one park to another park in which there was a reason why it was gone in one park is just a stupid idea. I think it was mostly about capacity. Those 3 rides are all about small capacity.

SFOG had a Looping Starship so I don't know why they would give us their Looping Starship. Rides were taken from defunct Astroworld, and New Orleans more recently, and given to other parks. That's just because Six Flags isn't opening them, or they were tore down.

Why am I saying it's a waste of money? It costs a lot of money to remove the ride from one park, and put a new ride in another park. You have to remember it's not just tearing it down. They have to put it up again, and than probably paint the ride, and maybe add some theming. Not only that, but it has to be shipped probably on trucks which is going to cost quite a bit money in gas alone.

With this program, they make parks that are not that great dumpier for the most part. For our park if they were to do this again, they would probably take a ride out like Ragin Cajun out because it's a lower capacity ride, and because we have two mice, and give it to a park that's not that big. An idea might be to send it to Six Flags America, or Great Escape. If they wanted to, they could send it to Magic Mountain for their new ride. This is just an example of what they probably would take out of our park.

Another one might be Iron Wolf, and actually I think this would be the first choice of ride rotation removal at our park. I go on this ride when the park is packed, and this isn't so much. That tells you something about this ride.

They also could take out V2, or Demon, and move them.

Well, wouldnt it be more expencive to get a whole new ride then a used one from a 6flags park, because, a new ride, u need themeing, paint, transport, putting it up and buying the actual ride its self. Instead of just relocating

Maybe as part of this program we could get the Terminator Salvation Roller coaster next year and give SFMM Pirate Battle, that would be a good rotation deal.

^^That is true, but ride have flaws, and people will figure out if a ride isn't good and it just came to a certain park. Move Iron Wolf, and it might have some lines for a year, but what about after that? I can't really think of a ride that we would get from another park though unless another park is closing down for good, they want to move the rides. I would love for us to get Superman: Ride of Steel, Avalanche, and Joker's Jinx from Six Flags America if that happened.

Ragin Cajun if they moved to another park would probably be the same thing as us. The line length looks so minimal (You know how many lines are in the other coasters), but the line time is high up there. So, it would decrease popularity as fast as ours did. Again, you will wait in line for Ragin Cajun by us, but it's not through as many lines as before.

Hold on, maybe they would give us Scream! because I think it's located poorly at SFMM. Hey, so was Medusa at Great Adventure (Now, Bizzaro). Do they put floorless coasters in poor locations, or what? Besides, that what else that's a great / good ride would they give us that would bring up attendance for more than a year?

If a ride is already built and has a poor location, you have to figure a way how to better the location. It might be better signs, or to move the entrance even. Stuff shouldn't be just set in stone sometimes, and give up on it.

If they were to give IW a cheap makeover, it could really attract more guests to the ride. Change the name, colors, etc.

I don't see it happening I honestly think they think and somehow know virtually nobody would cry over Iron Wolf.

^Medusa was losing popularity at SFGADV and now since the Bizarro make over, they are using the queue that hasn't been used in over 5 years. Now if SFGAM got a make over on IW, it would make a different. Also being the first B&M, the colors are outdated so they could fix it up bit.

It MIGHT make a difference for a bit but I think so many years worth of bad reputation really hindered Wold's chances at making any sort of popularity comeback

I'm SO glad you people aren't running this company.

Ilovethevu' wrote:Why am I saying it's a waste of money?...

Because you don't want a used ride because it's not good enough for you. That's why you're saying it.

Look at Firehawk. That came from Geauga Lake, a park only a few hours north of KI. They packed it up, moved it, painted it, and opened it up. I was in attendance opening weekend, and that line was PACKED.
Even though the ride was relocated from SO close, it was still a hit.

Take a look at Dominator as well. Two great rides that were relocated, and are big hits with the park and it's guests.

Granted those aren't cases for Six Flags, but the program in general.
We got Condor through the rotation program didn't we? Does that ride look like a dump to you?
I don't see how a used ride with a new coat of paint turns a park into a dump.

Every single cost you listed (minus the removal of the ride) goes into the cost of a new ride as well. ON TOP of the purchase of that new ride.

And are you SERIOUSLY saying that we would get a floorless from either SFGAdv or SFMM?

I don't see the program coming back now I think there will be more smaller, cheaper and rides that appeal to most park guests for the time being. MAYBE 1-2 parks can get an actual pricey ride that is for adults only soon but it all depends on if they realize how long it's been since any major ride was born at a park that is not SFMM.
