When does great American Railroad open for the season. It's my dads favorite ride and it's good when there is slot of people in the park.

^Makes sense to like it.

Who doesn't like getting on something that is relaxing after walking around for awhile and having tired legs and feet. The other nice thing about most train rides at parks is you don't have to get off when you reach a station.

I have circled the park like 5 times on that train when I was tired and just wanted to chill out.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I remember going to I think the one St. Louis train or te one at Magic Mountain, and they forced us (my family and I) to get off. But I wish the station in hometown would be open for us to use. It is blocked off for shows now.

As far as I know, the hometown station only gets closed not to long before the pre-show starts for the parade because the performers use the actual seating area in the station as a temporary waiting area before they start the show, then they use the landing after the first set of stairs as the stage area, then proceed to the trolley/float entry point to join the parade and after that they usually just keep it closed because its close to park closing anyways. They've been doing it this way for while now, unless the train was closed for mechanical or other reasons.

I don't think it was the St. Louis one. I was there on a busy weekend last month and never had to move for 2 full circuits around the park.

If memory serves me correctly didn't the train run around the whole park and make more than 1 stop? If it didn't then it should, it would be a faster way of getting around the crowds, and it was scary/cool for fright fest i always had the feeling like someone was going to jump out at me at any second and the spider on the Demon made the ride. The Scooby Doo mystery train was not bad either. I just wish they would bring back Superstition.

I went on the train today and it was so noisy. People were holding their ears and you had to yell to talk to the person right next to you. Worst ride on GAR ever!!!! Screeeeeech

^ I was on the train Saturday myself. I didn't pay too much attention to the noise (not saying it wasn't), I was thinking because it the start of the season that the train needs time to lubricate from being stored during the winter, I'm just guessing....

The noise is from rust on the tracks from not being used all winter. They aren't able to lubricate it, the train would loose traction. It usually takes about a week or 2 for everything to clean itself off and stop making all that noise.

^ Parker is correct. When I worked out there, the first few runs of that ride at the start of the season were awful, as it would squeek so bad. A lot of rust builds up on the rails during the off-season. The best way to clean it off is to run the train around the park.

He is also correct about not lubricate it, as the train would never make it up the hill at the front of the park. There was many a time when I would be driving, and I was singing the "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can" song in my head, as I really did not think we would make it up! :D Maintenance would then have to come out and put sand on the track to help with traction. Still, there was at least one time that I can remember that we did not make it up. Maintenance came out, backed the train down the hill, added more sand, and tried again. That time, we got up.
