^Basically it means either due weather (temperature, wind, etc.) or stiff wheels or a combination of factors, the train fails to complete the course and comes to rest between two hills (or other elements). Then maintenance has to remove the train one car at a time and load the cars back on to the storage track. The process of retrieving of retrieving a vallied train is not quick, and results in the ride not being able to run for atleast a few days.
^It will, but it's still crazy that 7 inches of snow fell on the park 4 days before opening day.
Opening this early in the season is very risky and a crapshoot.
If any of you are hitting the park opening weekend and you have to drive a decent distance, have a backup plan in that area as it's a good possibility the park won't stay open long. Try Gurnee Mills or check out Keylime Cove (you can visit the shops , restaurants, and arcade areas without staying there).
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
7 INCHES in Gurnee?! Barely 1 inch on Oak Lawn...at least the temps will be around 50-55 plus rain is still a possibility before the weekend...messy with all that rain washing away the snow
Forecasts calling for Friday to be rainy turning to flurries in the AM, remaining windy throughout the day. Saturday should be the best of the days, high in the low 40's, partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy late. Sunday is still up in the air depending on how the next system tracks. It could be really rainy, really snowy (think last Sunday's storm) or could miss us all together. Regardless to how much wet stuff falls on us, Sunday will be cold and windy with a brisk wind off the lake.
Remember, the combination of low attendance and bad weather often leads to the park closing early or not opening at all. If I remember correctly, it happened once last year in early May. Like ChiTown said, check ahead and have backups.
^ If you got that from Weather Chanel, NEVER LISTEN TO THEM!
I get mine from WeatherBug/Chanel 9 which never seems to be wrong
Friday Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Breezy. Highs in the upper 40s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times.
Saturday Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s.
Sunday Rain likely and isolated thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 40s. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.

Usually they are pretty close, though obviously as the day gets closer it changes. Tomorrow (thurs) should be pretty accurate for fri. The temperature shouldn't be an issue, though that wind could cause problems. Around 20-25mph sustained and stuff starts closing.

I know the park opened way later---April 27th last year/ Does any1 know when the water rides reopened? 2008 season got off to a slow start with cold temps and high winds late April/early May
I'm seeing mostly sunny most of the day, the only thing to worry about will be the wind at 20-30 Mph
And as far as calling they will always be open unless a major storm takes up the whole day (rain, snow) But of course that is what they sat and we know it's probably low attendance sometimes.
Best of luck to those going and I want to see tons and tons of pictures!!
The forecast for this morning there is rain between 10-11AM with almost freezing temps, I would not be surprised to see the park close early or perhaps very early depending on the crowds (which will most likely be non-existant).
Im going to agree with Chitown, dont expect the park to stay open if its completely dead, they closed last year at the beginning of the season.
As of 745am the park has no updates on web site, and nothing noted on there phone messages to indicate the park wont be open, so they "should" be open all day for there guests enjoyment. bit of course we know that might not be the case.
