giant drop testing

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby sfgamguy on March 13th, 2009, 3:01 pm
Today when I was driving past the park, some of giant drop's cars were halfway down. at least one had ''the box'' on it. I will post a picture later but the reason I posted this was just to get it out there. :D Does this mean testing started? It seems too early to be testing :? no other rides were tested that I could see. I didn't even see it moving, but it wasn't that way this morning.

Too early to be testing? Opening day is only 3 weeks from today. I'd be worried if nothing was testing.

This year all owners will be required to provide the inspector with a completed “Carnival Worker Roster”
form listing all of their operators, attendants and assistants. Failure to have the completed form on site
may result in amusement rides and/or attractions not being allowed to operate. This form is available on
the Department’s webpage and has been included in your application packet.

I guess I didn't realize it's only 3 weeks. but it still seems a little cold. Also I just went past again and saw all the lights inthepark were on (including on coasters!) this made me happy :D Also, I didn't feel like making a new topic about this but yet again, sf said they would probably file bankrupsy! they said if this happens they would honor all passes bought allready for 2009, and might stop selling them! now I am scared

Please people. Do your homework on bankruptcy filings.

Bankrupcty does not always mean doom and gloom for a company. It doesn't always mean the company is done.

We hear this stuff every 6 months. Shapiro doesn't take it seriously. He will be buying more eland for SFMM by 2013 to add their 18th new coaster.

I'm sure he's taking it very seriously and if not he will be taking it quite seriously pretty soon. Not that Shapiro has much to loose. Dan Snyder is the man in charge.

In their conference call they said they are approved for a $300mil loan this summer, im assuming thats to pay off due PIERs dividends though not sure. Also a large part of Mark Shapiro's contract is on stock options so he certainly is concerned about it :).

Yeah, look at UAL. They are relatively fine now.

And on the topic of testing, they better be doing it now because most of the rides need to be cycled a bunch of times before they can be certified for public operation. i was there in late May last year, and they still didn't have one of the trains on Raging Bull fully cycled yet, so they kept running it empty.

Yeah that would be cool, I can't believe the park is going to open soon, off season felt short to me but it'll be nice to go back to the park in May once I get out of school.

Drove by today around 9:30. Didn't see any rides actually testing, but Giant Drop had all the cars at the bottom except the one facing Bull. That one was almost at the top and had "the box" on it. Sky Trek Tower's cabin was also at the bottom. Eagle Red looked like it was about to test. Had a train sitting before the lift that had just been brought off the transfer.

just got back from park, and NOTHING was testing  I also noticed the wiggles stuff still in the back, but there is this thing that has 3 gas pumps on it sitting in the middle of the back behind AE. is this a new addition of decor. to garw? or knowing our beloved park, they will plop it right in the middle of hometown square  will they :?: who knows. I am starting to freak out because I havent seen 1 ride actually testing yet, and there is only 8 days, 1 week from tomorrow left!!!

They may think the park probably won't open at all or most rides will not be running so they aren't that worried about testing...just a thought.
