Marriotts Great America, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags, Great America whatever you call it I am sure you can possibly agree with me. It was not until 4 years ago that I found my love of the park, I went when I was a little kid and was terrified of all of the rides except Sky Trek Tower and the Carousel. Well today that has changed and I ride almost everything except the coasters, (I do not really fare well with heights). Over the past 30 or so years the park has undergone numerous changes some good some bad, can we agree?? Lets focus on the good: when the park was first open they had real food, the shows were of Broadway standards, Costumed characters were plentiful, the shops sold merchandise that you would actually want, Games were cheaper and you got a good prize, the parades were lavish and full of energy and life, The scenery was fabulous and fit with the areas, rides were fit into their respective areas, the ride operators and service staff were dressed in costumes from their respective areas, admission was 34.99 and parking was 5.00-10.00, things were great.
What the hell happened?!?!?!? Prepackaged Food served cafeteria style, the shows are pre taped, dubbed re-dubbed then re dubbed some more, Bugs Bunny says ride this ride.........where the @#%& is Bugs??? Want kitchen tools with looney tunes indica a character leather jacket, Taz, Bugs Bunny, or Tweety Feet Slippers (I know you remember these) we dont sell that, want non stuffed characters...we dont sell that, want another character like Lola, Porky Pig, Petunia Pig, Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby Doo (others from cartoon network?) we dont sell that...... no they sell Disney's Cars stuff, Marvel Iron Man things, The Hulk...I'm sorry the last time I checked this was Six Flags Great America home of D.C. comics, Looney Tunes and Cartoon Network characters why are you selling the competition??? Games only if you have a small fortune to invest, when I was 6 they had a frog lilly pad game that cost a buck thats right $1.00 to play the idea was simple land your frog on the center of the lilly pad to win, nowadays games range from 3.00-5.00 and the chances of you winning? lets just say a snowball has a better chance in hell, they used to have redemption arcades where you would play for tickets to trade in for prizes where did that go the WII experience most people have these machines in their house, Afternoon parade? when I went it was almost non existent the floats were there and some characters but it was nothing spectacular, The Nightly parade call me correct but did this parade not have fireworks nightly?? The energy is just no longer there the have had jugglers, circus acts, animal acts where have all of thos gone? The scenery is so so now things are in need of painting (the right way which includes scrapping or sanding, spackling, primer then paint not just slapping some new paing over the old and calling it a day. Now it seems that things do not fit in as well as what they used to the specific areas were supposed to show what life was like in different periods of american history (which is something i cannot believe I just said because I hate history), now they just seem a mishmash of ideas and things thrown together mixed around and produced without a thought as to the authenticity of the park, Where are all of the costumes? If Disney can do it then why Not Six Flags it was nice like having a little bit of Disney in your backyard. the admission prices are something else entirely 54.99? and 15.00-20.00 or 25.00 to park your car in a parking lot?? For the service you are getting they should pay you sometimes.
Dont get me wrong I really love this park my family and I always have a good time here and we love the family time we spend here, it really brings us closer together, I have heard my dad tell stories of this park from when he was a child and a teenager, and my mom's story when she was a teenager, and my uncles, and grandparents etc. etc. and I just kills me that what they have experienced is something that I will never get to experience first hand sure I can look at it all I want on the web but it is just not the same thing. I am not trying to slam the park (although I do acknowledge that my comments may be a little harsh or acidic) I just want people to take a step back and see what the park has become, i just do not want to see the park decline any further I would like to bring my children here, and for them to bring their children. Is it too much to ask for a little wholesome family fun at a reasonable price, With wnough content to forge long lasting precious memories with those whom we love?? Just think about it when you're sitting on that horse on the Columbia Carousel with that classical fanfare wafting through the air on a mid summer afternoon.
