Woopie Goldburg was going over a list of companies that might file bankruptcy and Six Flags was one she listed. Oooooo My !! I hope this not the last season. I don't know what i would do if there was no SFGA. I know i would CRY!! The Gurnee Park has been a big part of my life and a big part of my 7 Yr. olds. We have averaged at least 20 - 25 visits a Year for the last 3 years. My kid and i would be crushed, Its are one little get a way during the summer.
Why do you people associate FILING BANKRUPTCY with CLOSING! Six Flags can still FILE for Bankruptcy Protection and still operate as it is NOW. The courts may ask them to liquidate some assests, but this does not mean the end. Look at banks who file, Charter Cable Systems just filed bankruptcy and they are OPERATING just fine, just as they did before, but they now have protection so that they can reorganize, or find a way to negotiate better finances. They didnt shut down, they got help!
Six Flags will not just "SHUTDOWN" because of "filing"!
Sorry just the first time i heard it on TV. I have read about SF money problems on these boards but never heard it like i did today. Kinda shook me up!!
Yeah, we've talked about this here, and on other forums for at least the past two years. This article is based off of speculation which is all we have used when we discussed this previously. The only thing different is the article got a little more wide spread attention than usual, so now more people are talking about it.
They must be stalling for the results for the 2008 season. It doesn't sound that good to me. We have no idea if Six Flags Great America will be a park that will even stay Six Flags. It might not be a saved park. It depends on how many parks they want to keep, and this park is not an investor park like SFOT, and SFOG. Most likely those parks would be the last to go.
The real problem is that not that many businesses would be willing to buy these parks just for the land alone because how much new stuff is being built. If people would be more willing to buy land now, I think we would have seen some more parks leave right now. When you are that deep in a hole, you have to sell before they go to bankruptcy.
When I clicked on this topic, I thought you were going to say that Shapiro is on the View.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
I highly doubt SFGAm won't be a SF park next year, and there's a better chance of everyone on this board winning the lottery than their is of it being given the Riverview treatment.
Nobody it will not be sold to another company. There are 3-4 other parks that will be on the chopping block LONG before this one. The location is what keeps SFGAm so valuable to Six Flags Inc.
