In 2008, it was a decent year, Six Flags made a profit for the first time in years....decent year indeed :D

Now, what's your favorite 2008 Moment!?

Mine has got to be my first time of Raging Bull!
Other than the time we seen a guy sleeping on a bench, I sat next to him and made funny faces!!

This year was my first time going on an uncrowded day. So I went on Superman, Vertical Velocity, Viper, Iron Wolf, and Demon for the first time. I also went Raging Bull, American Eagle and Batman, but I had already been on them before. The trip was awesome!

Even after saying up all night, missing my bus, getting to the park 2 hours after opening, waiting in line 90 minutes for Superman...It was all worth it. Was my first coaster in 5 years and while it may be boring to me now, I will always remember how happy I was ridding Superman. It restarted my passion for coasters and already got me to take trips to Kiddieland and Six Flags St. Louis. That one single ride has me going to Disney World next year (with Wild Adventures on the way down and Six flags over GA on the way back, both with no sleep) and 3-4 more trips.

Others (and myself) may make complains about the park. Despite that, SF Great America is an amazing park. It has world class coasters, fun flat rides, cheap season passes and, for most of us, quite close. Even after 20 visits this year in 3 months, the place is a great time. The place will always hold a special place for me.

I will NEVER understand why people say Superman is boring. Never. My first time on Dark Knight was cool too since it was the first dark ride I went on.

my favorite memory was on november 1st 2008. it was the day season pass holders could enter the park an hour early. we got there at 8:45 so we could be in line at 9. first we ran to raging bull. we got back row. there was no wait. in fact there were only two other people on the entire ride than us and they were not even on the same train! since there was no line when we got back from our first ride I asked if we could go again. The ride op. said yes and we re-rode....get this....14 more times making us have rode it 15 times in less than a half an hour. then we ran over to superman and rode it 7 times but when we got back from our 7th flight  we figured the gates to the g.p. were open and the line went all the way to the middle of those sign things. then we went on with the rest of our day and went through necro, saw susan rosen 2 times(and yes I got hypnotized and thought a monkey was pulling my underwear out of my pants  ) then we saw LAFF 2 times went on some other coasters and left at closing. That was my favorite memory of 2008!

That was a great morning. I met 2 random people there that had not been their in years while waiting in line to get in. We were able to hit Bull 3 times (back row), Viper twice in the back row, Batman, Dark Knight, V2 and Superman. They need to do things like this around once a month. Was defiantly a great time.

Opening day for Dark Knight wasn't really that bad. I can't remember exactly how many rides I rode that day, but the lines really weren't that bad. Longest I waited was about an hour an a half for Dark Knight, and that's because we got in line when the park opened and the ride was still being worked on before the public opening. At lease I got to be one of the first 100 public riders. It was also one of the most random trips I ever took to the park, something I've never done before. I usually plan park visits at least a week in advance, but a friend just asked if I wanted to go a night or 2 before.

I also went the Tuesday after TDK opened, and the crowds weren't even there. I was able to ride every coaster in the park (even Spacely's), and probably got on a total of 30 rides. I also set a new record for consecutive rides on Batman at 7 (I know people here probably have more).

Made a few more visits later in the summer, but my last trip during Fright Fest was also really good. It was again on a whim; my friend IMed me at 2am on Saturday asking if I wanted to go. We got 4 rides in a row on V2 at opening. We got on a decent amount of other rides too, but mid day we started going to the shows like the Hypnotist and LAFF when the lines got really bad. I really enjoyed it since it was my first time ever doing any of the Fright Fest stuff.

I thought this was one of the best seasons at the park (at least from my perspective) even though we were clearly missing something.

I got a good one...my first Fright Fest! Yeah, unbelievable! 15X better looking than I thought.

****Off-topic question****

Is Sky Trek Tower stuck at the top ALL off-season? Wouldn't it make more sense to have it down and covered?

^ To a casual observer, it would seem better to leave the cabin at the bottom. The reason the cabin is stored at the top of the tower when the park is closed is to protect the cables. When the cabin at the top, almost all of the cables are inside the tower. When the cabin is at the bottom, all the cables are on the outside of the tower and exposed to the elements (especially wind). The wind can blow the cables around significantly. If you've ever walked by Sky Trek on a windy day when the cabin is at the bottom, you can hear the cables hitting the tower. That is not good for the cables and increases wear on them.

I have quite a few.

#1-Opening Day '08: Despite the weather and closings, just being at the park again was great. No waits for Demon or AE.

#2-First Rides: Raging Bull, Iron Wolf, V2, Superman, BTR, Orbit, Yankee Clipper, Logger's Run, Dark Knight

#3-My mom's first ride on Demon: You might remember awhile back I made a post about this issue. Well, we went with her longtime friend and they went together. She still doesn't like it too much but hey, A for effort.

#4-Closing Day: Closing Day was a sad but fun day. We rode a lot of rides and went through Necro and hit my unsuspecting friend with the porta potty shooter.

2008 was an awesome year for me and if you're able to look beyond what the park doesn't have, you'll really enjoy yourself. Can't wait for BB and maybe I'll get a chance to break my '07 Demon re-ride record of 18.
