Official Buccaneer Battle/2009 Attraction Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

^ well, not everyone likes climbing 250 feet and then dropping at 70 miles an hour to get a thrill, so I don't see how him being excited is retarded. Secondly, I'm sure they haven't set the entire "flashpass" idea in stone yet. They may construct the queue for it and then not use it until the next season. That's what they did with Superman when it first opened.

The ride was obviously quite a hit at Dollywood, so I can't see how it would be any different here. Keep in mind, this ride (if operated properly) will most likely see more throughput than any other ride currently in the park. This is one of the reasons it was decided upon as an attraction for the park. As someone mentioned before, the real "challenge" is to get the ride to at least somewhat resemble the artist renderings. Since the ride is out in the open, it may not be as "easy" to get away with missing scenery for the ride.

I guess, if you don't like it, don't ride it and there will be 1 less person waiting in line in front of me.

Im sure it will have Flashpass. Wouldnt make much sense not to have it to maximize sales plus the ride is supposed to have fairly good capacity.

I thought it would be good theming, but after looking at those pictures, it really does look like a cheesy ride. I can't prove that since it's not even built yet, but from observations of other rides like it, it looks lame. I am not saying it's not a huge roller coaster so it's lame, but there are better ways to get wet than that. I would imagine most kids won't even like it seeing that younger kids these days have been wanting thrills as well. But it will be there, and I can't do anything about it. I just PRAY it goes over well with the park.

Thats what I was wondering, if Great America can go over a road or something. I know Over Georgia's Goliath goes over a road.

The road is on SFOG's grounds. It's there own road. It's not something like Grand Ave in Gurnee. SFOG has a back parking lot, and one in the front. They have two different ways of getting in. If I'm thinking correctly, they have something like a toll booth (like we have coming from main entrance) which is a straight road towards the back parking lot. Over that road, they have the coaster going into I thought was grassy area with a little water. It has a fence around it. The back parking lot is the bigger of the two.

then again, look at SFKK... it has like 2 parts separated by a highway...

then again, no coasters go over it: just a pathway.

but still.
I've ridden every single coaster at CP, HRP, SFMM, and SFGAm!!!

The road at SFOG is like the one AE goes over. Also for the SFKK thing, a pathway is a bit different. It's not risking breaking or damaging the cars below from loose objects, or distraction, or other things.

If SFGAm was able to go over I-94, I am sure there wouldn't be anything out there anyway. There are residential areas surrounding the park.

well if they buy the houses closest to the park, that would cost far more than any new ride, and basically they'd have to leave the houses up acting as a sound barrier, and as long as they are up they have to be maintained, at least on the exterior along with lawn care and all that, in the end it's better for the park to do their best to respect the residents while doing what they do. I don't think the residents of any houses have ever blocked any ride being built at SFGAm anyways. Though they raised hell for V2, and still do at meetings as it's noisy and on the residential park perimeter

How much do the residents of surrounding areas have really to say about a ride like V2 coming into the park?

http://www.gurnee.il.us/zoning_board/zb ... 25-00.html

There is the meeting where the variances for V2 was approved, there are a few residents in the area who do not like it at all, most of the complaining is in regards to the screams of passengers rather than the ride itself. Though they really do not like it when we would start V2 at 6 a.m. (You get the warning siren in 2 individual 8 second blasts.)

This meeting is where Deja Vu was approved, more complaints from the same people mainly, also discussion on the FAA beacons (Only need 2 total, thus no need for them on Deja Vu.)

I got a kick out of this quote from Jim Wintrode, "The coaster [V2] will be quieter than the ride [Whirligig] that it will replace."

Last I checked, I couldn't hear Whirligig from Burger King

I did not realize they had much say when a ride goes up in the park itself and doesn't really interfere with residential areas. The screams shouldn't bother people that much anyway plus the park always closes no later than 10 P.M. The park is good for the economy in Gurnee they should be grateful knowing any new ride will drive people to the park more every year and increase attendance and help Gurnee's economic growth.

^ They get to speak at the meetings, but it doesn't really have any effect. We've never had a ride not get approved (that I know of), and I think the board realizes that a few people near SFGAm aren't signigficant enough to jeopardize their re-election.

A proposal for that (if there ever even was one) was never brought up to the zoning board.

The hottest debate about the park over the last few years was the debate on the new sign, everything else passes (haven't found one that wasn't unanimous yet) without much complaint. The town knows how much money the park gives them.

Good to hear. Getting back on topic, can anyone get in touch with the park to verify that there is nothing replacing Splashwater falls next season? They usually do tell you stuff like that over the phone.

Buccaneer Battle was total disappointment for me. I was pretty sure that they were going to get a decent coaster of some sort for 2009. After 2005 I figured it would be 2007 till a coaster, because the waterpark cost so much. After wiggle's world I was pretty sure it would be 2008. They got Dark Knight in 2008 so now I'm thinking 2010 for a good coaster.
