You just answered the question, yourself So they can save energy money, since people ride it either way.
But I really doubt they shut it down, especially right before frightfest.
I dont mean shut the ride down...just the break. Remember there are budget cuts EVERYWHERE. And the V2 holding break take LOTS of energy. Now add that up...and it can save some chedda over time. They probaly realized how much money they could save so they just made the holding break inactive.
From what was said the compressor that controls the brake went out so therefore the brake on the tower won't be fixed until the 2009 season
i dont think LIM's use compressors
I dont know a lot about the LIMs, but its magnetic. There is nothing that needs to be compressed when holding. The brake does "squeeze" at all to stop the train.

I know LIM's don't use compress we talking bout the holding brake the brake is controlled by a motor but the motor is controlled by a compressor thats how that bblllaaahhhhh sound come in when it grabs.

There are no moving parts on the LIMs located on the rear tower and there are only LIMs on the rear tower, no mechanical brakes. The train is completely held up by the magnetism of the LIMs. The sound is caused by the harmonic vibration of the fins on the train.
There are only 2 things that use Pneumatics (compressed air) on V2, Airgates and the permanent magnets that are lowered to slow the train.

Well yea u kinda right i can see that now from what you saying.
Yeah there is a lot of stress on the track. Before the extra supports were added the track would REALLY sway. You could see it sway from across the park. And yes, if the train does not go high enough, or goes too high it wont grab...to protect the LIM and the track. The same way Deja Vu would miscatch.
also, have any of you ever noticed how unsupported xcelerator is??? just on the topic of unssupportedness, check out this pic: http://rcdb.com/ig1574.htm?picture=5
I've ridden every single coaster at CP, HRP, SFMM, and SFGAm!!!
in Intamin tradition they did go back and add a support (though not for the top half of the top hat), in this pic you can see it spanning the 2 main supports
well yeah, but i meant on the top half, its completely unsupported. how can it support all the weight. unless its like reinforced or something, i can imagine its prob gonna fall someday haha jk.

The structure can handle trains going over 100+ mph, Xcelerator was built mainly for the reason of testing the launch system for Dragster so during testing they were firing off trains at over 100mph to see how the hydraulic system would react (and yes, the Knotts ride ops do staple Sandor in this video ).
Well those are in infamous Knotts Lapbar Nazis. I hear it's better in recent years, but before they would check restraints by putting their entire body weight on the bar and still pushing for that extra click.

on that page about 1/4 of the way down you will notice a box outlined by a thin blue line, simply enter "perilous plunge accident" in said box. After you do that, hit the button labeled "Google Search".
So far so good, now wait a few seconds, and you'll find yourself on a page with an awful lot of info on it. Now don't panic, we can make sense out of all these hieroglyphs. Certain lines of this text will be blue, bold font and underlined, at least one of these lines should pique your interest, now whichever one that is, all you have to do is roll your mouse over that one and click on the left hand button on your mouse (right button if you use a left handed mouse). After that a page will come up with one of the following
1. An answer for what you are looking for. 2. an error message 3. low grade yet strangely satisfying hardcore pornography
If you get No.1, congratulations, if you get 2, simply hit the back button and try another one of those blue, bold and underlined sentences. If you happen to get result #3, well then life isn't all bad, unless you're under 18 (safe assumption) in which case quickly hit the back button and try another blue, bold and underlined sentence.
It may seem pretty complicated now, but once you do that a few times it becomes second nature. You'll be floored by what the internet is capable of these days!
