My friends and I are planning on going to fright fest in october and are debating getting a flash pass...this would be my first time using one and I just have a few questions:
1. A lot. There are two types: gold and regular. I remember when the qbot system started last year it was $30 for a gold and $20 for a regular (per person) but its probably gone significantly up since then, I dont know exactly what it is now.
2. If you have a gold you reserve the ride from your qbot device that you carry around with you and its a 10 minute wait before you can get through the Flash Pass entrance. If you have a regular its the normal wait of the standby line. Can be used unlimited amounts of time.
3. If you dont go to SFGAm very often and you happen to go on a Saturday or Sunday during FF you pretty much have to get one to get on a decent amount of rides. If your willing to shell out, the gold qbot can make it very easy to do as many major coasters as you want regardless of crowds.
If you are going to even get one, get the gold. The regular is a waste of money in my mind. You wait the same amount of time, just not in line. I miss the old $15.00 punch hole things where you just go right on.
Oh, and bring an official state ID, because you need it to get one for some reason. I don't have a driver's license yet, so I couldn't buy one last time, which totally pissed me off.
Fright fest is probably the best time to get a flash pass. I know I will again. The park is PACKED almost everyday it is open in October. Since the water rides/park are closed, you will find more people on the coasters and whatnot. Everyone wants to see it transformed for Halloween and the park is closing later this year..November 2nd. get the GOLD if you plan on going once or twice. More and regular or hope for short wait times and walk fast to the rides you want to go on.
I'm planning a trip to Six Flags Great America this upcoming weekend for the opening night of Fright Fest. We have our tickets and everything set to go, and have enough money left over between the four of us to get a four-person regular Flash Pass.
I'm just wondering how exactly they work. I did a forums search, but it seems like a lot of the threads are from people who at least are usual Six Flags people, whereas I've had a Cedar Fair season pass since 2000. I know that you reserve your spot in line at the rides, but I still have a lot of questions. If anyone could help me out by answering these questions, I would REALLY appreciate it!
1.) How many rides can you reserve on a regular Flash Pass? I've heard everything from only one ride on a regular pass to up to four rides.
2.) How long after that time is up do you have before your ride time expires? For example, if we reserve a ride, and it's time comes up as we're out in the parking lot eating lunch, is it going to expire if we don't get there by a certain time?
3.) How do you reserve rides on the Q-Bot? Do you use the thing itself, or do you have to go to the ride entrances to reserve your spot?
Thanks guys, I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say about these!
1) you can only reserve 1 ride at a time on the regular FP
2)I don't know how long it will expire in, but if you are 5 minutes late it will say your current time
3)You scroll through the ride list on the Q-bot and then click reserve, but do not cancel only if you are sure you want to, or else you will lose that time, trust me I did it once.
If you have any more questions Jon feel free to ask we would be happy to help you!
"The rides are GREAT, The shows are GREAT, the fun is GREAT. At Marriott"s GREAT AMERICA!"
Ok, then I guess I should ask is it going to be worth it this weekend? I know it's Fright Fest, which means it'll probably be busy, but we don't plan on going to any of the haunted stuff, we just want to ride rides. Are we really going to have a problem getting one ride in on each of the coasters and a few of the flats? And if so, is it really worth it to spend the money on a normal Flash Pass to help that problem?
Usually the first weekend isn't all that bad, shouldn't need a qbot. At least wait til like noon or so to get a qbot and make sure it's busy, no sense shelling out $$ for a qbot and having half the rides be walkon anyways. Usually the later it gets into fright fest the more crowded it gets.

Ive had a tradition to go on the second week and the last week of fright fest.
I have never had a problem with crowds...except the last week. I highly doubt you will need one for the first week. I was reading a TR about the first weekend and it was 80 degrees and dead, walk on for DejaVu.
Like I said before, the ONLY thing that sucks about the flash pass is that you can't use it on AE, Demon, Viper, Yankee Clipper and the flat rides. Otherwise if you can afford it and not go broke later get the GOLD. So what if you can do other things while using The Regular? You still have to wait the same time and you are worried about having enough time to go on other rides and attractions. GOLD is so worth it.
With a flashpass regular, can you reserve a spot on all rides at once (so that when your wait is done, you can go on all rides one after another), or can you only do one at a time?
For regular, you pay half as much than gold. You reserve one ride for the exact waiting time. So if Raging Bull is 1 half hour, you have to reserve for 1 half hour but you dont have to be in line. you Could be eating and maybe going on Giant Drop and stuff.
But with gold, you pay 2 times more. And you only have to wait 15 minutes. Which is worth it especially when most lines are over flowing.
Flash Passes are really good if you use them the whole day. Not good for 4 hours and less. Try to aim if you are at the park 6 hours and more.
I think the spot where you go into the line is kind of lame. You wait 30-45 mins for your spot to reserve. Then you have to wait about 5 mins to get into the line, then about another 10-20 mins to actually get on the ride.
I went to sixflags.com today to check out the price of a regular and gold flash pass for 2 and it seems extremely high. It is $59 for a regular and $108 for gold. Did they just recently raise the price for these again? I'm going on Sunday and I think the lines are going to have to be extremely long to fork over that much cash to by-pass a line. Last time I checked I thought the gold was around $90 for 2.
