V2 Occasional No Holding Brake Malfunction

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby BP317 on August 15th, 2008, 11:03 pm
V2 was a clone of Superman Ultimate Escape/Steel Venom/Voodoo at Six Flags Ohio/Six Flags Worlds of Adventure/Geauga Lake/Dorney Park.

I heard that V2's holding brake is broken. That is to bad, it is the best part of the ride. :(

I knew something was wrong with it, my luck i create the topic and it actually is broken.

The ride should just get a revamp, install new LIM's with the 60 second cooldown period like CP to speed up lines. Make the ride just less rickety sounding, the metal above the ride just rattles all over the place. Wicked Twister didn't behave like that at all, and its the same ride maker.

*shrugs* I guess V2's attitude is starting to go like IW's, which I still hate that ride even though I went on it yesterday.

well no its not nearly as bad as IW ... but it just feels rickity. its the only ride in the park that i actually fear being on sometimes.

why? i dont really know, it just sometimes doesn't feel safe.

V2?? V2 is very safe in my opinion, I asked one of the ride ops if they've ever had a problem with the restraint popping open and he said no so that made me feel a little better and if does happen they catch it before the launch it.

So it is broken eh? Well that explains why it never caught the whole day when I was there yesterday.

I've never had a rickety rid experience on V2. Always been very smooth for me. Only issue I've had is my head occasionally hits the restraints, but that's because of the twisting, not the condition of the ride.

the on ride itself doesn't feel rickety, but just watch it as it goes back and forth..the metal above the track is always shaking and making noise. Idk, the whole ride just fills me with fear. I do it every trip, but its gotten more nervewrecking for me then it used to be

Um, this problem is not new. I have not visited the park at all in 2008, and it happened to me a lot last year. One train would hold, the next would not, or a series of 4 or 5 trains would hold, but then 1 or 2 would not. Completely random from my observant

you people are asking way, way to much from Intamin.

Not only do you want it to be completely safe?, but also reliable??????

Well you don't get either, ride it and make like it's all good, cause it's your best option, and try not to think about it.

Aren't LIM's expensive to replace? If they would revamp anything I would hope that they would fix the screeching! I rode Wicked Twister today and I didn't hear anything.

its because Wicked Twister is just a better ride overall. Seems better maintained, no screeching, quicker, station doesn't shake. The back twist from the back is more thrilling to then the holding brake (obviously more reliable too).

I am not asking alot from Intamin, i know it cant be totally reliable and what not...but like the other guy said, the screeching would be an improvement.

The Screeching is unavoidable. That noise you hear when the train launches off, is the noise of to LIM's (1 on each side of the trains fins), applying all of the energy very suddenly to launch the train up to very hi speeds. Its like wanting to take the NOISE out of car crash, thats just not possible

The reason why Wicked Twister station doesn't sound as bad is because it only fires in the station on the first launch.

I believe he was referring to the screeching when it comes back into the station, not from the LIMs (correct me if I'm wrong). Great metaphor though! :D

Screeching is from the LIM's while the train is being parked. It's normal, unavoidable and they all do it.
