Six Flags Great America lockers

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby jbujwit10 on June 2nd, 2008, 11:04 pm
Hi,

I just have a few comments on the new Six Flags Great America loose article policy lockers. I think that it is 100% ridiculous that you have to pay to put you loose articles away in a locker before the ride. I do think that it is a great idea of having the lockers, but stupid that you have to pay to use them. It is not like they do not already have a lot of over-charged things in the park such as the food, drinks(especially water bottles), etc. When I went to the park I bought some popcorn in the park, which by the way was over priced at $5, and went to the American Eagle. I was not able to bring it on the ride, so I had to throw it away. This is fine, however, I thought that I would of been able to hold it or something because American Eagle does not go upside down. But, I guess not.

before any MAJOR loyalists jump all over you I am going to say your argument is totally legit.

I do not carry anything being a guy, and dont even wear sandals as much as i want to be a bit cooler in the feet region just because i dont want to have to risk them getting stolen.

I see tons and tons of people getting turned away at lines to put away stuff costing people and my friends as first time goers dollars and dollars not to mention its a pain. Its great it speeds up lines, but it really should be free as a consolation for paying potentially $55 at the door and $15-25 to park.

some may say a buck isn't much, but in a place where the dollar gets you barely anything as it is the $1 bill becomes more valuable but now it just gets wasted on a stupid locker for a 1 minute 30 second ride.

I feel for all of you who require carrying things, its unfortunate.

hi -

I haven't visited the park yett this year, my first visit will be on Thursday. Can anyone fill me in on the new locker situation? Some of my questions are ....

1- Can you still wear flip flops?
AND
2- Are there still the old lockers near the front of the park?

.. if you have any other comments or anything, please fill me in :D

-thank you !!

Yes, you can still wear flip flops. Those can be left on the platform. The lockers are still in the front too. I have no idea how much they cost though.

I don't care about the lockers cause I never have to use them. Cedar Point has the same policy on Dragster and other rides I believe. This isn't a sole occasion, they do it for operations as is the same here. They can be viewed as unfair, I don't disagree, but personally, I really don't care.

I don't mind the lockers. I find them very user-friendly and it's a way the park can make more money. I understand why people wouldn't like them but they don't bother me.

Haha when I went to Sfstl me and my friends decided to go on batman and the line did not look that long, so we all got 2 lockers for a dollar and thought it was a rip off. So then, we get into the line and see that it was a 1 1/2 hour wait, so we went back and had to get our stuff from the lockers we used for 5 minutes.
poor wolfie rip :(( hopewe get a neww bm wingrider for next year!11!

You may say it's only a dollar per ride but lets say you ride Raging Bull twice, AE once, Superman twice, TDK, IW, then Batman twice, then you decide to go on Superman thats $11 you can spend that on food. And also sometimes the employees don't catch people with loose articles at the beginning of the line so when they get to the end of the line and a employee says they have to get out because they have a loose article after they waited about an hour in line it becomes a pain. Especialy if they are making you put a season drink cup in a locker. They did that to me honestly who would want to steal someone elses season drink cup.

If your smart, you use those lockers more than once per ride, or leave stuff in the car.

The lockers are completely rediculous. I don't usually carry anything, but I always go with other people who do. But even though I don't usually bring anything that I have to carry, it still makes me mad.
I got one of those passes for a free souvenir cup this year, but I still haven't bothered with it, because I refuse to use those lockers.

People should be given the option of putting their stuff in the bins and just forwarned the possibility of it being stolen and those who want the security can waste their dollars.

^Sedir, you read my mind. This should absolutely be a choice. Six Flags before and now does not take responsibility for lost or stolen items. People know this so putting them in the bins is a risk they are willing to take. HEres what i have to say about them,

first of all, guys, dont be ignorant. They arent 100% stupid or else they wouldnt be there. Yes, they are there and we are forced to use them but think of where SF is coming from. (i am an employee, yes, but.. well... just listen) For the past three seasons, security has been in the top five guest complaint list. In 2007, i believe it was #2, #1 was enforcment of guest code of conduct. What that means is by the public, all of us here, saying that they want a security upgrade-- BAM! you got it. There was a **% security increase this year (yes i censored myself) and the lockers were part of that increase. Yes, the cost a dollar, but they are NOT i repeat NOT making six flags a profit in anyway. The $1 is used for the electricity it takes to juice a unit. And really people, its a dollar. When you go to SF i'm sure you bring (usually) a good lump sum with you because we all know just how expensive it is.

Now, if that still doesnt change your mind.... i'm sorry. Youre going to have to deal with it. The lockers are here to stay. Maybe next season it will become a choice.... but for this season, think of these POSITIVE options.
1- for guys or girls- wear cargo shorts/pants to the park!!! This the best thing you can do, i do it ever visit. Stylish, and effective. The rule says it has to be seccured to you body or in a pocket. That means either in a fastened pocket OR (yes) a carribeaner (sp?) attatched to the belt with items in pocket.
2- trade off rides. If a line isnt too bad or a nonlocker ride is around, just switch off!
3- dont ride the ride
4- USE THE LOCKER lol
and 5- just dont bring stuff to the park that would non the less go in a locker. All you really need is a wallet and a phone. Am i right?

So thats my speil about the lockers. To be honest, i think they are a great security asset. However, yes, i do believe they should become a choice to use but really, why are we complaining over a dollar and possibly the security of valuables??? Lets face it, if you just bought a picture that cost $40 take it on a ride and lose it, you'll think, damn if i would have just gotten the locker.....

^ But the whole locker thing is a choice meaning that Six Flags isn't sticking a gun to anyone's head saying "you will pay a dollar to use this locker or else"

The lockers are for loose articles to be kept out of the queues. I understand that it can be a struggle, but what I don't get is the fact that they found a way to increase capacity and there was a lot less stacking on my visit yesterday; something most of us wanted to see. Well now they found a way and people aren't happy with it. Yeah, it's a $1...but is anything (besides the air we breathe) free anymore, especially the way the economy is heading?

You still have the options of...
1) Leaving it with a non-rider
2) Renting an all-day locker (with unlimited access to it)
3) Don't even consider bringing it to the park if it's not necessary
4) If you do win a prize or buy merchandise, get your hand stamped and take it out to your car OR wait until the end of your visit to play the games/buy stuff so you have nothing to carry around

I highly doubt that that put in those lockers for Security Reasons. If they did they would be on every ride in the park. The reason they put the lockers in is to increase capacity on rides. That the only reason why they did it. Six Flags is not trying to make money off lockers. First the lockers are not owned by Six Flags. They are owned and operated by a vendor. Six flags only get’s a small percent of the sales from the lockers. The rest goes to the Vendor.

^ I think by security he meant stuff not being stolen from the bins, its easier to watch the bins on smaller rides. Also, its just another pace where they can be sure your not bringing stuff on the ride you shouldn't be and not having to deal with it when trying to dispatch the train.

While I do not agree with the locker policy, it does have a few benefits and it provides cheap entertainment on busy days. (Watching people get mad that they can't ride without paying a buck) I have to add though, as serveral people on here have thrown the "Cedar Point" does it card into the pile. Cedar Point only has lockers on Dragster and Millenium Force - and this is only becasue the loading platform is in a different location that the exit platform. It would be impossible to leave something in the station because you never return to the station. While there a few weeks ago, every other ride, including Maverick, had bins, and most of the employees were actually staffing them, opening each one for its matching train and reminding people to have their items ready to put in the bins and reminding them to take their items out. The simple reminder to tell people to use the bins worked great, even on Maverick. I don't think Six Flags will ever be smart enough to develop a dual loading/unloading platform, they just like the $1 locker fee.

The only part of that post that makes sense is the vendor part. First of SECURITY is the ONLY reason the lockers were put in (at least in the case of SF PR lol). Ride capacity increase? How does that make any sense? The ride still has the same amount of seats and the ride is still the same lenght. Ride capacity my friend is something that has nothing to do with it. Now if you mean that it saves time because people arent shuffling by the bins the yes absolutley. ALong with that though, it also does not deplete wait time by any means. The only time this is cutting down is platform time. And even still on larger rides like RB, you still need to wait for the previous train to pass the block!

^ You cant think of it in terms of raging bull, but if you think in terms of rides with shorter intervals like batman and superman than it makes a huge difference.

^^ Ride capacity is absolutely the reason. You wouldn't believe how much faster they can get trains checked without having to wait for guests to put stuff away. Cutting down on "platform time" does reduce the overall wait time. Also, when 3 trains are on Bull, they send the train when it clears the lift. It's when they're running 2 trains that they have to wait until the midcourse.

Ride capacity is definately the reason lockers were put in place not for security reasons. They don't care if your things are lost. I do think this idea is very dumb for six flags for one reason. I just got back from universal and almost all of their rides that had mandatory lockers had different exit stations from their enterance stations, this means that people got on the ride extremely quickly ( they even had a 15 second countdown for people to get in the car.) At SFGAM there are none of these, (well maybe DK i haven't rode it yet) so the capacity won't really increase by that much you just have people not putting things away. You still have to wait for people to exit which can be extremely long esp. for viper and american eagle because there is almost always someone stuck after they unlock the lapbars. Also at universal, depending on the wait of the ride, the lockers were free if you wanted to ride that ride once. For example, Hulk was a 45 minute wait so the free period of locker time was 1 hour, when we went to Dueling Dragons it was a 10 minute wait so the free locker time was only 30 minutes. Six Flags should consider adopting this policy but i doubt they will.
