I know that Six Flags is awesome, and we all want to talk about it with people who appreciate coasters as much as we do, but there are certain guidelines that we ALL need to follow to make this forum successful for everyone involved.
I'm posting this because I'm getting fed up with the SFGAm forum and the conversations taking place there. They aren't constructive at all and are mainly a waste of mine and everyone else's time to read with the exception of around five individuals.
I know that Dave, Kyle, and Mike have posted announcements about reading the forum rules, but since I'm sure most of you (myself included) have never read those I'm going to give a little advice here:
1. Read the name of the topic, and talk about THAT TOPIC. Lately people have gotten off into their own tangents, generally posting one sentence (or less) per post, and that sentence is basically just a conversation with the person above. While we are talking about Deja Vu deconstruction, we don't need to be talking about how awesome Raging Bull is.
2. Oh, LOL <---- Not an acceptable post.
Most importantly, if you want to talk about random things with people on the internet arrange a time to meet in the chat room, or make things easy and download AIM.
I know its the offseason and some of you guys are bored, but its getting to the point where many of our older posters on this board don't even bother to read this section of the forum anymore because we don't care about your personal conversations with other posters here.
I'm not naming anyone personally, but next time before you click the "submit" button ask yourself "does this post actually contribute the topic conversation?"
Thank you,
<3 w00dland

I totally agree, I can swear I have seen a talk about Shockwave in 5 different threads and each almost saying the same thing. Topics can get off-topic a little, but when its talking about, let's say Dark Knight Coaster, does there really have to be talk about SFMM or Cedar Point or TTD or Tatsu in that topic, not really. That topic is about Dark Knight Coaster. Though, I am not sure what topic that is from really, but I know that sometimes I am reading a topic and then have to look back to see what the topic is actually about.
And as Nick stated, there are some posts just say "^LOL " That is completely unnecessary and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. If you agree with something, then say it and say why, don't just say yea either. Posting should further enhance a previous post or post something completely new that is on topic, not some gibberish that makes no sense in the said topic.
Just make sure your post is logical, spelling/grammar is acceptable (get firefox for spelling), the post adds something useful to the thread and make sure that the thing said isn't being repeated (particularly starting new threads)
And thanks w00dland for bringing this up, it had to be said sooner or later.

Post of the year w00dland. Pointless posts have been a major problem recently. Same with going off topic. The "Would anyone know if they started taking down Space Shuttle" topic has now mutated in to a lengthy discussion on the water guns at Roaring Rapids, even though there is a topic called "Roaring Rapids" on the same page
There are some threads which I cant even read anymore, now rather than read just about every post, a Subject really has to catch my eye before I dare open it up and see it's just like another chatroom.

Completely agreed. I hardly ever read posts on here anymore because of this.
Since I don't want to seem hypocritical, I apologize for any of the worthless posts I have made and so on. Yes, I know I was a part of the Roaring Rapids discussion, I couldn't help myself. I don't think I go off topic much though.
i also agree with this. I'm sure all of us made some pretty pointless posts when we first started here, I know i did. I used to be pretty active here, and I'm not as much anymore for these reasons. I hate going to read topics and see what's new, and have the new post be ^LOL . Just use a bit of common sense people, that's all I'm saying.
Sorry LAFFfan, I couldn't resist. I meant no disrespect.

Couldn't have said it better myself wOOdland. Excellent post.
I still visit the site everyday, but I find myself posting less and less due to the interest of most topics. Mostly, when I see the conversation slowly moving away from the original subject, I am pretty much done with that subject.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.
What you people don't seem to understand is that if a topic is worth talking about, it will be brought back to discussion. I can understand why you might get pissed if someone brings up something totally off the wall or says something that doesn't really matter, but if someone has a comment not directly related to the thread that somehow ties into it, you shouldn't police it.
w00dland, that has to be the best post I've seen in this forum in at least a month or so! I haven't been reading this forum for the past week or so because of all the conversational BS going on here. The DejaVu Removal thread, Space Shuttle removal thread, and the Dark Knight thread are probably the worst on here in terms of conversational discussion.

/\ Umm...it's not only him but its basically all the older posters feel this way. Now if you want all the older posters and moderators to leave, there won't be this site for you to come to.
Now if you think forums are to be used as chat rooms, go to a different forum. This forum is not to be used as a chat room, but more for debating or discussing things about SFGAm and coaster related topics. Use the chat room or do this to a different forum. The older shouldn't have to leave cause of a few people on here treating this like a chat room. So don't go telling someone to leave because people are mistreating the forums.

Thanks w00dland for bringing this up. It was getting to the point where it wasn't fun to even read the forums anymore. I'd come on here, and sift through 25 pages of Deja Vu removal, and wind up only finding about 14 pages worth of good posts. It's understandable when things get a bit off topic, and that really isn't a big deal to me as long as there is a good discussion going on. But the one word replies, the LOL's, and just crap like that makes you wonder if those specific posters really do think this is a chat room, or if they are just trying to get their post count up.
I do agree with w00dland on this issue. However, I will also say that if a thread goes off-topic, I have been known to continue with the tangent. Part of my problem (and this thread is a wake up call to me) is that as I read the thread, someone may say something, and I might have a comment on that, or something to add / correct with it. Of course, the person that I'm replying to might have done better by starting a new thread, or seeing if there was a thread that he/she could have added to instead. But, I also feel partial blame here, as I replied to, and continued to talk about, the off-topic thread.
The advice of looking at the top of the page to re-verify what topic one is in is a good one. In the future, I will take that advice and look at the top before posting.
I also want to comment on spelling / grammar. I will be the first to raise my hand and say I can't spell to save my life. While I do my best to verify things, I have always wondered how hard it would be to add a "check spelling" button? I've seen them in use on other forums (Broadbandreports.com, for example) and it works out great. While I don't know the effort involved to add such a feature, I would be interested to know if it has ever been suggested or looked into before.
I also admit to posting if a thread goes off-topic, which, as others have said, I will try to eliminate my habit of doing so. However, as Brian said, I sometimes like to comment on things like that. I have also made a few pointless posts, and lately, I read more than I post, which is what you are supposed to do. Nonetheless, I've never treated the forum like a chatroom, and I am glad to see that someone has stepped up to point it out. It has gotten very annoying, and it's nice to see it gradually disappear.

This was my first coaster forum when I was a sophomore in high school, and I also like the believe that older posters like me carry valuable information that could answer many of the newer posters questions.
Now don't think that I'm striking down a slighty offtopic tangent, because I'm not. What bothers me the most are the setence fragment posts between 2 or 3 posters which take up a whole page to come to the conclusion of "I liked Deja Vu."
Point is, there are going to be a lot of changes at SFGAm next year, the marketing strategy is going to be WAY different than anything we remember from Six Flags, the look of the park is going to be changing a lot this year as well. I just hope that we can have some intelligent conversation about these topics instead of agreeing with each other about how awesome Raging Bull is in the Dark Knight thread.

It's like the old forums in this topic! I love it!!!!
As for this post, thanks Woodland, definitely about time someone did this in a normal topic! Let's hope every new user to come reads this topic and takes it as gospel in these forums!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
I'm not saying I don't agree, but why do you care about someones opinion when you should worry about yourself and not start a topic like this. It is fine if you go on a topic and if you want to get back to the topic, I am all over that.
