^ Probably not. That area should still be open. As far as I am aware, the Go Karts will still be operating this year, so they cant block off the entire area.
Ever since I was a little kid I always remember seeing SSA right in the front and always thought it was the coolest thing. But now it's time for it to (blast off) into a happier place!
Top 3 Steel Coasters: 1. The Incredible Hulk 2. Maverick 3. Dragon Challenge (Fireball)
Top 3 Wood Coasters: 1. The Beast 2. American Eagle (Red) 3. Hades
I don't know what it will be like to not have the space shuttle right out front. It'll certainly look less tacky, but man, that thing has been there as long as I can remember, even when it was a Dino ride.
Anyone know anyone that has a helicopter or a high place they could get on top of that would allow a good look at Great America(specifically, TDK and VU) and could take pics? I've seen several buildings around the park that would be perfect but I don't know anyone in those buildings so I can't get on top of em. Just a suggustion. I know I heard of a guy named, Flying Phil(or something like that) has just recently flown over SFGAvd to take pics.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/
Someone mentioned this in either this thread or the Dark Knight thread...
Somewhere in the yellow areas I outlined, It's very likely to see DejaVu removal, but with all the trees and Great America's fence, I doubt you can see any Dark Knight construction. This is in the residential area behind where the Shockwave parts were.

I believe Flying Phil is from he Philly area so he flies over Dorney, SFGAdv, and Hershey.
The other place to see DV's removal is in the business park on the west side of I-94. I would show you on Windows Live, but the part that I'm talking about was not built at the time the pictures were taken.
On weekends, you can park behind the buildings, and then climb up the hill next to the tollway to get a decent view of the park.

Hrm, I could easily get over there. Just a matter of time and weather. I'm gonna try to plan a trip to that place. Proabably will borrow one of my family's bikes.
^ Edit: Hrmm...looking at that area, I'm not so sure you'd be able to see Vu from there. I'll still check it out, if nothin else it'd be a good bike ride.
Brian: Hmm...I could probably go scope out that area as well. Where is this hill? On Google Earth and Live Local(It has more recent and clearer shots then Google Earth! I am shocked! ) it only shows flat areas around the buildings. Actually, if I remember correctly, last time I went through there I didn't see a hill.

Well, what they did was to put the base of the buildings and parking lot a bit lower, so that they would not stick up so high. So, when I say "Hill" it is just in reference to where you park to get up to the level of the highway.
If anything, this gives you a "safe" place to park (instead of parking on the side of I-94). This allows you to get some good pictures without traffic flying by inches from your parked car at 65+ MPH!

I'm not so sure you could really see anything from there. That is a realitively small hill and it's actually kinda dangerous to be up there, even with the tiny guard rail. I found that out while I was on the bus today and looking on Google Earth and Live Local. Anyone here is free to go try.
As for that small park in that neighborhood, that is useless as well because of the fact that, SFGAM put that fence right at the base of the hill and the hill is just high enough to where you can't see anything except the tops of the highest rides. The only real way to get any good pics is either, have someone in the back of a car take pics while your going down I-94 or do like we have been doing along Washington.
Btw, Gurnee needs to freakin plow the sidewalks along 21. Getting to that neighborhood was like running a freakin marathon while lifting weights. It being cold didn't help either. I was exhausted when I got home.
