I have lived near the park for most of my life (since 1975) and it is quite a sentimental place for me. Seen many many changes as the coaster craze has heated up considerably with technology and all over the past 20 years and will continue to.However, we easily forget those thrill rides that often give us enough nerve to conquer coasters for the first time. One of my favorite rides at the park (non coaster) is power dive. It is simple, yet a long enough ride where it packs many thrills throughout the many rotations. It never really wore out for me.I also looooooooved the tidal wave. I know alot of you are young, however do you guys remember that ride? I was mad when they tore it down, even though they put a phenomanal coaster up in its' place. I loved it because it was a short ride, yet amazing. The line was usually always short, thus you could ride it over and over again. Each seat provides quite a different feel. What was amazing about that ride was the loop. For it's time, that was quite a large loop. You weren't harnessed in save for a lap bar, therefore the air time in the loop was a good feeling.I just want your imput on favorite thrill ride and what you all though of the tidal waveJohn

PowerDive was also one of my favorite non coaster rides at SFGAm. It was the only flat ride I could ride all day and would still be thrilling. I could also prove to people that I rode it all day with the bruises its restraints left. :)I never got the chance to ride Tidal Wave, I probally saw it at Six Flags but was too scared to ride it. Back when I was between 5 and 6 my parents used to bring me to Great America once a year, but I was afraid of all the coasters. I remember it was Batmans opening year when I got over my fear for roller coasters and got over the 54" height limit. So I never got to ride Tidal Wave, but I am hoping I can get out to SFKK and ride it there.

Oh, it is at another park?? I did not know that. Yea, it was scary the first time that I rode it. I had to get over some fears.

I've never really ridden any ride that doesn't exist at the park now except Sky Whirl but thats not a thrill ride. I would have loved to ride Power Dive and the 3 coasters they had years ago though.

I really loved Power Dive also... I've got so many good memories on it. I can remember riding it with my uncle at night... That's my best memory of it. It was nice because the line was never really long. I think we need to somehow get SFGAm to put it back in! lol... That probably won't happen though.

I also haven't ridden anything that is not at the park now. But what is at the park that I really like is Condor. That is one cool little ride. It was nice getting some illegal pictures off that ride of Shockwave.

Yeah not being in scared me right at first because we ran up to the ride and got on. We didn't really have much of a wait so I didn't know what I was up to. But it was okay without any sort of restraints. It was just like being unrestrained in any sort of Enterprise ride.

The most thrilling rides in the park for me (Honestly) were, Shock Wave (R.I.P) Power Dive (R.I.P) and Cajun Cliff Hanger (R.I.P)
Nothing to see here....

So nobody here has been on the tidal wave??!?!? I'm shocked. It was a great ride with an ultra short line (due to the shuttle nature). Great ride for its time. I wish we would have kept that rideAlso, about Batman...it is no doubt a good ride...but I wouldn't call it a great ride. That's just me. You don't even know where you are going after that last "rest" turn. the ride is too short. I just tend to like coasters like raging bull, where it is very fast, very intense...etc....YET, it doesn't compact turns so much so that you don't even know where you are going. Just because a coaster is intense doesn't mean that it has to be rough. Raging bull has high intensity due to its' height, large hops and speed. Yet, it is one of the smoothest coasters that I've ever been on. Not rough at all... this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

I remember Tidal Wave Really Well! I loved that ride, the 4 times I got to ride it. Unfortunately I was still little, and only rode it a few times. When they got rid of it I was so upset. Sometimes I had the opportunity to ride it more and didnt and now I regret it. Same thing happened when they said they were removing shockwave. Although I've ridden Shockwave a few hundred times. My favorite flat at the park can be found at pretty much every carnival. It was the Hay Bayler. Other than that I used to always ride Big Top a.k.a. Ricochet. It used to be where Dare Devil Dive is now. It was moved when they built SW territory.

Oh I love the haybayler rides. They are so fun and the ones I have been on gravity is what holds the bar down, so you could jump out if you really wanted to. It's an intense ride!

I loved hay bayler!!!!great ride...many fond memories of riding it when i was too chicken to ride coasters...this ride was ridden by me and my cousin consecutively for hours....(hey, when you are afraid of loops and heights, this was the way to go!!!)Richochet was in another place before daredevil dive...I'm trying to remember....hmmm it used to be called big top...maybe it was always there...It seems like it was elsewhere before that. Oh well, I think I'm losing my mind...It was always where daredevil dive was and it used to be yellowhey, did anyone ride the Edge??? I never did. Also, did anyone ride Z-force??? Two rides I was too chicken to ride growing up, yet they intrigued me. Edge was like Giant drop (on a smaller scale) I imagine.

Actually i think you me and a few others know what the edge is. i am to young to have ridden it but i know why they took it out. The car was going up the elevator and it fell all the way down the shaft the scary thing is, is that the kids who got killed on it were wearing shirts that said i went over the edge and survied!

And the scarier thing is, if they died, they were out of the park, because our Great America has had 0 ride-induced fatalities! The other Great America's Whizzer has killed someone, though, but I believe it was rider error (like, don't stand up you idiot! )

No-one was killed on the Edge accident. Injuries yes, but no deaths. SFGAm has never had a death on park property.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Nobody died in The Edge accident, all three survived. You can read the article about the accident here:http://members.aol.com/rides911/edge.htmAnd like T_Biggs said, nobody has ever died at Six Flags Great America before.I had the chance to ride the Edge(now Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall) at SFWoA this past summer. The 2 days I was there I had to get in line for the ride at least 15 times. Everytime I got in line the ride broke down, so I never got to ride it.

coastercorey. Your location says 2 minutes from SFGAm's parking lot. Do you happen to live in the Pembrook subdivision?

No he does not, otherwise he takes a long time to get to school, considering at this very moment he is within 400 yards of me in some classroom, being bored to death by one of the many boring teachers.
