Ragin Cajun Spinning Section

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I've been on many different replicas of Ragin Cajun and from what I noticed is that on other rides when you get to the spin section of the ride, none of them spin as intense as Ragin Cajun. Does any one else notice this?

^Now that you bringit up, RC does spin very quickly. Really, it all depends on your weight load. But seeing as RC is fairly new, that could be one reason. they also may use a different grease to make it more lubricated that would make it spin better.

It's fun when you have bigger people on one side and a smaller person alone on the other you spin so fast.

As long as the weight in someway goes from heavier to lighter across, you should spin pretty good.

I know you can tighten the axle that the car spins on, and it seems that SFGAm is the loosest of all the mouses I have been on.

You cannot tighten the axle that the car spins on. It is on a sealed bearing. There is a brass puck which regulates the speed of rotation, maintenance on occasion has been known to apply lubrication to the brass puck to lengthen the life of the puck (otherwise they last from 2-4 weeks before wearing out) which at the same time greatly increases the rotation of the car.

Not that I'd know or anything.

I felt that Opa at Mt Olym. spins pretty fast. When I went there this past summer, I got a pretty good spin or maybe even a slightly better spin then RC.

Mechanical maintenence spends a long time every morning inspecting/greasing each car, because of the rides really strange PLC setup that the park put together to meet SF corporate safety requirements, the ride needs to go pretty fast for it to operate properly. They use a lot of grease on the brass puck as RBF said then spray thick coats of lube on each of the wheel bogies and get those cars moving fast.
Some cars move faster than others: this year the two greens and the purple (cars 3, 4, 5) were running the yellow nylon wheels (actually the same exact wheels that DejaVu's uplift were) that are made for cold weather and are fast. The two yellow cars (1, 2) were running polyeurothane which are made for hotter weather and are slower/last longer. Im pretty sure the plan was to go all polyeurothane during summer, but since the ride was actually working well they decided it was best to back off and not mess with it :). That would explain why the cars go faster than most mice. The actual rotation is caused by greasing the rotation puck under the car to make it last longer.

Both of them can be found in aisle 4 of the New Lenox ACE Hardware ;)

And the spinning really all depends on weight, which is why I enjoy riding with my little brother, his weight and mine are quite different and it's always REALLY dizzying! The funniest thing i've seen, however, was this HUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEE lady (at least 300) with what looked like her 6 year old daughter....HYSTERICAL, you could hear her screaming from V2 :D
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(
