Rumblings about 2008

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby greatamerica2003 on November 13th, 2007, 7:43 am
There are already rumblings for what is happening in the park for 2008. It won't make fans of shows very happy.

First of all, the Theatre Royale is becoming queue line for Batman: The Dark Knight. No shows in there this year, or ever again as far as I can tell.

The Grand Music Hall will be a video presentation only. Apparently we heard something about this soon after the purchase of Dick Clark Productions. No live shows this year in the Grand Music Hall.

Also, Splashwater Falls will not be removed, but will not be operating. Same for Space Shuttle America.

Sounds like a weak year at the park already.

I am disappointed to hear that Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America will not be removed. If they aren't going to be operating, they should not still be standing. Leaving rides SBNO makes the park look bad. We should not be following the SFMM strategy

I really am not a big fan of shows, but this still gives me an urge to hunt Shapiro down and beat him  We already have a movie theater in the park. I don't want Dick Clark stuff replacing live shows. If the video show thing goes through FF, and there is no LAFF, Shapiro had better get him self some body guards

Wow...Way to kill all of our live entertainment Shapiro...Well I'll be visiting the park a lot less this year. Because honestly that's what kept be coming back every week last year. That disappoints me.

F-in a....

Lines are going to be huge...

How are they going to use Theater Royal with the line for Dark Knight? Ruin the theater... psht. I actually liked Theater Royal. Maybe they will bring back the Batman show in the que line of Dark Knight! umm. no :x

Doesn't make much sense to me why they are going this route. :?

if the grand music hall thing is true, i will be very disappointed. Why call it the grand music hall if you're going to sit a bunch of people in front of a video screen to watch some music awards show that already happened. we could sit on our tushes at home and do that. Plus, don't we already have a video screen show in the pictorium? So why do we need one there?

I think six flags' live entertainment is one of the things that keeps me coming back. Though there are the rides, I've always been a show person there. Who knows how much I'll actually visit without the live shows. I don't go see the pictorium show there because personally i feel i could spend my time better than sitting in front of a "giant tv" and watching some movie about something I really don't care about.

great way to ruin the live entertainment shapiro.

Question; Did season pass prices drop? It's now 74.99 for 4 pack and 79.99 for individual.

Also, On the website http://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/ti ... npass.aspx, it shows that they are doing live concerts this year. Maybe they thought that would be enough to provide as entertainment. H.H. is still free for this next year.

Is Shapiro crazy....SF isn't all about rides you know. Parents like to take their kids to see Bugs and stuff like that. Plus people like me like to go see the shows because yeah I like riding rides but sometimes while I'm at the park i'd like to sit down for an hour or so and watch a show. But are you kidding me a huge widescreen tv showing movie presentations wow that's just really lame. And if LAFF doesn't come back oh boy things will get ugly.

wow, i hope that doesnt happen with Grand Music Hall....i agree with the others with the fact it doesnt makes sense to turn GMH into a video theatre with one (picto) in the park (that doesnt get used as much as it used to) already which seats a lot of people, so theres no need for another one.. They are going to lose a lot of show go'ers because of this because a lot of people including me :( has been watching SF shows for years and everyone doesnt ride the rides all the time so it provides entertainment and relaxation for some folks. I feel sorry for the theatre attendants for GMH next season if this is true..... they are going to have some Loooong days if the theatres ends up almost empty because people dont care for the video that going on in there....

Yes. Shapiro is crazy. He doesn't know how to run theme parks because his mind is always on sports. Tip Top Club, you made a great point. You said you will be visiting the park less in 2008...well that just goes to show that this is a bad decision and if the majority feels the same as you, business will be lost.

I want them to know that they've lost my business. I know that six flags PR reads these boards. I visited the park every thursday from June through August. Every weekend in Oct and Sep, and every weekend in May. I never left the park, always bought food there, and bought a significant amount of merch during the year too. Yes I do ride rides, and I'll probably visit once to ride Dark Knight, but other than that I'm out. I'm a theatre Geek. I love six flags shows. I loved Show Stoppin', and while I personally wasn't a fan of The Toonite show because it was designed for small children, It was a good idea for a show, that kids loved.

What happened to deversifying our entertainment? I was hoping for an expansion this year because the shows department has been getting bigger for the last two years, so, while i know it wasn't done on purpose, it feels like they are baiting me and then taking it away. That's not the way I would do business. Money should be spent improving the shows if they aren't up to par not just getting rid of them.

So here's my question. How is SpyGirl coming back and Show Stoppin' isn't?

the show in the grand music hall changes yearly, so showstoppin wouldn't be back next year anyways. I just don't get why they can't put whatever it is that they are putting on the GMH projection screen on the screen in the pictorium? I just think it's a bad idea.

Not to be mean, but I find it hard to believe your not going to visit the park next season because of a few changes. Especially since your a coaster fan, or are you not?

While it is disappointing, the park has more to offer. I wish I was alive to see the Mariott's days. They seemed pretty neat.

You dont know if GMH is hosting a live show, you dont know if Spygirl is coming back, you dont know anything, so calm down. These are all rumors.

If you feel something needs to be fixed send a letter or email Six Flags Corporate. Venting on a fan forum wont accomplish anything.

I already sent a complaint to sfgam. lol. I'm sure there are many just like you and you will be speaking for many if you send them a complaint. Although I am much more of a rides person than a shows person, it still ticks me off because a lot of people loved those shows!

Six flags entertainment was good once...*tear*
There is a possibility though of entertainment being brought from the outside, live shows and whatnots, that could fill the season up. They have some nice venues, but part of what they could be doing is targeting those families that are buying season passes, coming to the park more than once a year, and don't want to see the same things over and over.
What you don't understand you can make mean anything.

Did you mean to say "hasn't" bothered you? I'm about 70/30 against the decisions Six Flags has made recently, starting with my biggest gripe- blowing up Wildcatter at SFOT, and now getting rid of Freefall at MM, following the removal of freefalls at SFGAdv and SFOG. Now there's only going to be only one of these rides left in the US- (Demon Drop at Cedar Point). I wish they would care more about preserving the past while investing in the future. Also- I've begun to really like DejaVu, since it's finally operating more frequently, and now they get rid of it. Now, if it's true that they will leave Splashwater and Space Shuttle standing but not operating, and removing the live shows, it will really make the park look bad. The whole Wiggles thing is good for now, but I question if the Wiggles was a good long-term investment and if they will have staying power, when so many hot children's properties have come and went (Barney, Teletubbies, etc.) I think the Thomas the Train theme has had proven staying power, and was a good idea. The DK coaster sounds interesting too, but most of the other decisions they've made recently make me scratch my head, if not upset me.

What about the Southwest Territory Amphitheater? Couldn't they just put a song and dance style, improve, stand up, show there (I love those kind of shows), hopefully it won't be themed to the Wiggle's.

I don't like the idea of closing rides without announcements, leaving rides SBNO, and removing shows. Geauga Lake and Magic Mountain have both done some of these things and look how they turned out.

What I love about all this is that Shapiro says we need more families, and yet is removing things that families can do together (Round Up, Tilt A Whirl, Shoot the Chutes, Simulators, etc.) including shows. Couldn't they have just turned Theater Royale into a video-theater and kept Grand Music Hall for a Magic or Dance Show?

My friend says the reason why his parents don't go to Great America anymore is because they don't have enough to do there as opposed to previous years (Sky Whirl, Skyride 1, Skyride 2) and removing a theater for a Queue line seems to be a step backwards. Maybe this means Q-Line DJ's and magic tricks in line maybe? Cedar Point and Geauga Lake both did that.

Please nobody critisize me on my ideas, it's getting really annoying!!!

While I apologize for the way I came across, I'm not sorry for the general sentiment. Yes, I do ride the rides, and I mentioned that I'll be there at least once for dark knight. This Just Seems like a step in the wrong direction to me.

And about spygirl coming back, six flags spent millions. Does anyone really think it's not coming back?

SpyGirl I'd bet will be back, but not with the same storyline. They did spend millions especially on the set, but it seems like they spent $20 on the storyline.

But even in the event they decided to trash it, the whole set is easily dismantled, its just wood.

I think it is awesome about the theater for the line for the new batman ride. They can redo the entire theater to make it look like joker's hideout. Batman the ride has great theming, and i think that the dark knight will have even better theming, and this is a great start. By the way, does anyone know if construction has started / if it will be ready for opening day next year?
