Opening Day 2008

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby BigBrick on November 3rd, 2007, 11:39 am
The Six Flags web site lists May 3rd 2008 as opening day along with a Sunday concert series starting in June. They haven't posted any hours yet.

I have a few theories as to why it's opening in May and not April.

1 : College students might still be in session then.

2 : Staffing is hard to find in April.

3 : April weather is very unpredictable. (Didnt it snow in April this year?)

4 : Six Flags is trying to reduce expenses and by having fewer days open, thus, the budget per-day is higher.

5 : Six Flags St. Louis opened in April once, but I think they don't anymore because of low attendance.

6 : Not Many people can take vacation's in April, which from a book I read, is a great time to go to Florida or California.

7 : Company picnics which give us more money for things like Wiggle's World and Dark Knight. :(

8 : It gives the park more time to prepare and test everything out. Maybe Six Flags Magic Mountain should have an Off Season

Take Your Pick.

I can't wait for opening day. The 2008 season is going to be the first season that I am getting a season pass, so this year I will definetely be able to make it to opening day.

Are the crowds usually really light on opening day?

They're usually non - existant. But this year I think it got a little busier. Last year opening day I got multiple multiple rides on everything. But not this year. Who knows? If Dark Knight is opening this year on opening day it could get a little busy.
"Oh My Gosh, She is such a whore!" - heard behind me exiting Raging Bull.

It doesnt open earlier because of the large amounts of work that is done to get the park open that cannot be done when its freezing cold out. The maintenence guys are putting rides back together all spring, the rides are then cycled for weeks prior to park opening and if its below freezing cold out its very difficult for a lot of rides to operate. The park is open 1 week earlier than opening day for private events, and weeks leading up to that the rides have be cycled x amount of times each. There needs to be time after the rides are put back together to work a lot of the kinks out, because when they are started back up after the offseason they normally have a lot of problems.

I think this is the earliest "next season" thread on record.....

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

I beleive this has been explained countless times.

The way the calender works the same days do not always fall on the same days of the week. For emample, one year halloween will be a saturady, the next a sunday, the next a monday, and so on. The same thing happens here. So instead of going further and further back in april, they go back to may. I'm guessing the next few years of opening days will look something like this.

May 3, May 2, May 1, April 30, April 29, May 5, May 4, May 3, May 2, May 1, April 30, April 29.

Want to know how I know? Because that's how opening day has been every year.
Captain, don't shake the passengers up too much this time!
