Fright Fest 2007

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I expected no theming for giant drop. After the big thing with the feet being chopped off, it might freak people out. It's actually good marketing to change deja vu instead.

I would perfer that SFGAM follow SFOG 's lead and tear down deja vu and replace it with a ride that actually operates most of the time,

I think it's a pretty good ride when it runs, but back on topic, I think Deja Vu is the best canidate for Hellevator. It is sort of like one when going up the towers.

Well, the REAL movies are good...... but Studio 13 is not good. Yes, there are a few scares here and there, but it doesnt make you feel like youre in the movie. The movies i know of are.....
Friday The 13, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Shinning, Exorcist, Psycho, Cujo, Saw, The Ring, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, The Grudge, 1408, and Silence of the Lambs. I don't know if they are right, but those are what i thought of when walking through.

Studio 13 was decent for what they could do. The scenes, however, are very short and sometimes (I went through at 4:30pm Saturday) some of the actors were not at their correct "stations."

If you have any interest in checking it out, it is definitely worth (in my opinion) $5 before 5 o'clock. It blows "The Curse in 3-D" out of the water.

My 13 year old sister I was with said it was scary in some areas.

Hands down "Rise of the Demon" was fantastic. Not only is it free, but it is more RAW, in your face, and has a better feel of a Haunted House in my eyes. For basically throwing fence up, filling it with fog, playing loud music and having about 5-7 dudes dressed in black running around, it was fantastic.

My 13 year old sister I was with said it was 10 times scarier than Studio 13.

Rue Le Morge was great. Not only is "Bodies" by Drowning Pool back, but it is basically pitch black in there now. Gone are the crappy lights they used to leave on mixed with black lights, and in are tons of fog and just black lights. There were points I couldn't see through the fog and ran into a wall!

Did anyone notice that once the cycle is done they loop Dave Williams, of Drowning Pool, whispering "Let the Bodies hit the floor... Let the Bodies hit the floor..." I thought that was an awesome touch.

Gabi, my 13 year old sister said it was awesome!

THE BIRDS was creative, funny, and enjoying! They took a ride that hardly anyone rides and brought life back to it! First and foremost, I love fog, as it is single handedly the best ingredient at Fright Fest. Saturday night wasn't windy at all so THE BIRDS while loading was just completely covered in thick layers of Fog. I had told my sister what happens when we get to the top, and I told her to keep looking at the peoples faces around us. Sure enough, once we got to the top and the ride slowly crawls to nearly a stop, peoples expressions turn priceless, you know they are worried!! All I could do is laugh. One little boy was freaked out and I yelled to him not to worry, totally not the Fright Fest way! My bad! Major, major kudos to whomever decided to do that to Condor.

Gabi liked it so much we rode it 3 times. I, too, thoroughly enjoyed it.

DEMON had the lights, sounds, and general feel of DEMON at Fright Fest, but the fog was rather slim. I did see someone refilling the machines while I was boarding so it's all good. DEMON is still one of my favorite rides to experience during the Haunting season.

Because we went into the DEMON's line immediately following "Rise of the Demon" Gabi was on edge. She said it added to the intensity of the surroundings to make the DEMON area one of her favorite NEW areas in the park.

Terror Twister is 75% of the reason I go to Fright Fest. I can remember the first year they changed it, and I have gone back every year. As always, excellent song choices, (What remixed version of Hammering in my Head by Garbage do they play?) fog and lighting effects. My only complaint is the lame DJ Terror - I don't feel like Hollaring! I do, however, like they changed the spiel on it, unlike Iron Wolf that should be "The Predator."

I screwed up my hand quite nicely on the first run of two on Terror Twister, and am currently nursing it back to health for this weekend. Gabi had been on this ride before and loves it.

I understand the reasons for deciding Hellevator isn't present this year. They made up for it by adding "The Birds," The Eagles station, Rise of the Demon <--(freakin' awesome I may add), Rue Le Morge is better than ever, Monster Mash was fun.

I don't like the Freak Show in SWT. That didn't feel right to me. But it was good, as was "Wheel of Fear." I watched some ladies eat some disgusting things for my enjoyment.

All in all, Fright Fest '07 is the best its been in a few years now. They have really outdone themselves. If any of the setup crew reads this, I have been to every Fright Fest Six Flags has put on and this year goes down as one of the best ones.

Give yourself a pat on the back if you helped to make this happen.

See all of you Sunday, Oct. 14.

Next to Terror Twister in the little area in the same complex.

SWT is split into two sections. Tinseltown & Southwest Scare-itory.

Studio 13, Terror Twister & The Human Freak Show are the only activities within Tinseltown. Ricochet's line is right inside as well. The actors in this small section are movie directors/producers and dead stars walking around. Some have camera and want to take pictures of you.

Heres what i have to say about Fright Fest 2007
(keep in mind this is what i sent to JPM  )

Carousel Plaza
• I liked it, you guys did a really nice job with this area.
• I think the only thing that can be improved is that you could bring back the stalk-around actors from I think 2003 or 04.
• Also, (this goes for the whole park) I would like to hear the music be turned up (I don’t know if that’s you guys or the park but still). That would add to the atmosphere immensely.

Seven Sins Cemetery
• This was also pretty good.
• Now, I think you wanted it this way, but the zombies all cluttered together near the theatre and never went passed “the Birds”.
• Didn’t see too many ware wolves
• Maybe try taking the leaves from the trees and scatter them on the walkway as if a real cemetery.
• Actors did very well here. Only two stopped for photos and I’m glad only those two did. Those kind of characters shouldn’t photo-op.

Carn-evil of Doom
• This area could be better.
• A lot of people are terrified of clowns which means you can really take advantage of it.
• Try finding an actual haunted carnival soundtrack and then distort it (if at all possible). That sounds very, very, disturbing.
• Again with the actors. They all gathered by one bridge or another. They need to stagger so no ones ever “out in the clear”. There can never be a place where they feel safe. Feeling safe is bad, so if they don’t see anything, they feel safe.
• The actors overall did pretty good, however, they were lazy. Clowns need to be energetic and I didn’t see any. Mega-phone can really pack a punch here and be very scary if done right.

Pirate Harbor
• I like it.
• Actors could be a little more “piratey” with more “ga-hargs!” and talking in that low groggily voice.
• The trigger on the pirate skeleton needs to be moved. It has a late reaction.

Necropolis
• This has is one if it’d best years yet. Only a few things.
• The opening walkway (where the bushes are normally). If you notice, on the right there is an alternate walkway on the right. OPEN THIS UP!!!!!! It would make an excellent path and would definitely scare anyone who walks through it.
• When you reach the sign that says “necro. City limits”, that is a major scare zone. Right before it, there is a mini graveyard on the left. There is nothing covering that wood fence right there so you can see the actor that is there. You need to cover this so that is a complete surprise.
• Actor performance was great. However, there was one in particular I did not like. That one person is the asylum patient (straight jacket). She did not act as if to be broken out of an insane asylum. She walked slow, and to scare simply “hissed” (not good at all) and raised her arms up. I am the same character at my haunt. You need to be very energetic and crazy. Jump around. Laugh hysterically. Get in peoples faces. Say things out of the ordinary. Scream really loud. Be down right obnoxious. Yes, it’s hard to do but it’s a much better effect.
• Necropolis is very good this year.

Mausoleum of Terror
• IT WAS GREAT THIS YEAR!!!!!!! Much longer some how than last year
• The spinning vortex is a great addition
• I like that the mirror maze was longer. However, that actor had poor timing and was not energetic.
• The part right before the graveyard is messed up however. Very confusing. It took 3 actors to tell us where to go. Try painting something to tell them where to go.
• (This next note goes towards Studio 13 as well) The actors did not seem to have any “character”. They really just popped out, said “boo!” and went back to hiding.
• Other than that I really liked this haunt, good job.

Area 51
• Excellent, excellent, excellent. Area 51 is spectacular this year. I really like the new alien look. It’s perfect.

Tinsel Town Terror
• Terror? Really? How in the heck is this scary? I’m sorry, but I don’t see it.
• There was not scare. The “My Horror Screen Test” is cool, but it’s not scary. I also do not like how there are only 2 entrances. Yes I know, it’s supposed to be a movie set but still, that wasn’t very good. Maybe add an opening by Raging Bull/ Terror Twister.

Studio 13
• Okay, this might take a while.
• Let me start off by saying that this haunt has by far the most potential out of any of the other three that have been there. However, as of now it is not good, sorry, it’s not.
• First and fore most- IT IS WAY TO DARK INSIDE. Yes, in a haunt, dark is good, but not this dark. You cannot see where you’re going, you can’t see the actors or props and it makes it un-fun because you’re more concerned about finding out where to go than being scared.
• That leads me to another point, scares. There were a few, but they weren’t acting. They popped out, said “boo” and went back in. You really need to work on this. It’s a movie theme for crying-out-loud. They need to act and make it come alive. Tell them this acronym….
FEAR- False Experiences Appearing Real. This will help a lot. If someone can go in, make someone think like they are really there, you will get 100X as much of a scare as before.
• Timing is also very poor in this house. They tended to only scare the front of the group and you want to go for the middle more often. I.E- the Saw scene (very good scene by the way). The actor in there did not do his timing very well. When I walked in, it was silent. In that room, there should be constant acting. He waited until I SAW HIM to start acting. Fortunately, he did act his part which I liked.
• Some rooms that can be improved….
• Bunk room with Jason. YOU CAN SEE THE ACTOR THE WHOLE TIME! He has no hiding spot at all and is clearly visible. Try to improve this room a lot.
• Freddy Room- this was okay. The only thing was that… well… it wasn’t Freddy. He came out, said “welcome to my nightmare” and then left. He needs to be Freddy, get in your face, almost “kill” you.
• Hotel room or whatever. Actors just walk around, they don’t do anything.
• Letherface room- okay really? Letherface and a window? What happened to the chainsaw?
• Exorcist. The holy person needs to focus on the audience, not the bed.
• Now for the whole house. There is no roof over the immediate walls which made me very mad because you can see the light from the other rooms and hear the other rooms.
• Now, I could keep going on about Studio 13 but I don’t want you to hate me.
• It really can be very good, just fix some things. This one really can be the best haunt in that spot.

Illinois Trollway
• Great as always.

Rise of the Demon
• This was a great addition, scared the daylights out of me. Nice job, fine as is.

I would like to give my props to the Rise of the Demon Crew. For those of you trying to guess the amount of Scareacters, it's Four. This area is supremly designed because it makes you think they are everywhere! They have access to basically everywhere all the time. This area is absolutly supreme and shines in fright fest! I'd love to see more small but well designed areas like this in the future!

No, they closed it and put a giant UFO in front of the County Fair station.
