Is splashwater Falls being removed??

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

OSHA is not responsible for ride inspections.

The only one who inspects the rides is the State of Illinois, there is no federal oversight of the amusement park industry.

Either way it wouldn't make much impact on me. I personally don't like riding those water rides. I hate being in wet clothes.

Sorry.... I better **catch** up on my terms... Then Six Flags probably wants to just fix up the ride, and saw something wrong with it.

When Six Flags wants us to know, they'll tell us. Until that point, I'm okay with waiting. Let's face it -- up until Six Flags actually announces anything, plans could change. And then, even after they announce something, plans could still change.

Once again, I'd like to remind everyone that Mr. Freeze was officially announced as coming to Great America only to be changed and have it not show up. Who knows when even the park really knows?

Finally, about all the rumors that get thrown around -- it isn't too hard to make a rumor up about the park that would sound credible for the future. I mean, we know that the new management team has publicly stated that they are trying to attract more families. We know that since Great America got a kids area last year, that if they get a ride it would probably be one that older people would want to ride, but kids could ride it too.

Based on that, I would guess that the park would either be getting a dark ride, a coaster that the family can ride, or some sort of new water ride. Will that happen? I sure don't know, but I know that based on what we do know that it sounds a heck of a lot more credible than the park getting another kiddie area so soon, or a large thrill coaster.

But it isn't taking a genius or anyone with any real idea of what is going on to come up with that. I think that the details are what will be really interesting, and I would expect that the park will either announce them sometime around the start of Fright Fest or in January, as those are the two times that the parks generally make announcement -- before Fright Fest to drive Season Pass for next year sales, or in January to advertise it with the season pass mailers.

Personally, I'll be happy with whatever they get next year, as long as they keep Viper, Raging Bull, Batman and Superman. That's why I'll be back.

I agree with you on this one! If Splashwater Falls ever gets shut down, that's what i'll remember most about the ride! That, or the fact that i "broke" the ride

btw, rcoaster, definitely "chatch" up on those terms, j/k--i couldn't resist.

^ Dont worry, I will chatch up soon.....

According to very unreliable sources(SS), and some more reliable, Six Flags incorporated shall make an announcement on the "news" of 2008 of all their planned attractions on October 1st. Our whining, debating, guessing, and fighting will come to an end on this topic of what will happen with this "failing" Splashwater falls, or to our beloved and unreliable Deja Vu. I doubt that they'll tell us where they'll put ant attraction, if announced, so we will have another issue: "Where will they put it" or they can hopefully tell us their whole plan....

The time is soon and soon is when we'll find out.

Also, it is said that the date of Hershey Park's announcement was moved back to spoil their news of some big ride before Six Flags does anything.

I wouldn't expect Six Flags to announce what if anything they are pulling out, only what they are adding. It wouldn't be a very good announcement if they were truly ditching rides to say, "Hey, we're getting one, but we're losing two!" I think we'll need to wait until we can either visually see rides leaving, or until we next season when the park opens and we know they aren't there.

That date though sounds right -- just in time for an '08 Season Pass push.

I'm excited to find out what we will have for next year! Hopefully the park maintains its good status quo because I have a friend from California who is visiting & has high hopes for the park.

If you want to get wet, go to Hurricane Harbor. It's included in the admission to the park. If they could find room, move SWF to Hurricane Harbor. There's a thought!

For people that think American Eagle may go, it happens to be Shapiro's favorite ride, so i doubt that we will see it leave.
about.com interview wrote:There's no moratorium. That's a misconception. But we need to diversify. We have 17 roller coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain--that's too many. It's become like a drug. This industry has become addicted to roller coasters. We put them up. The attendance goes up. If we don’t do something the next year, we fall behind. We can't be so reliant on roller coasters. It's about balance. The pendulum has swung so far to teenagers, that our research shows Mom and Dad are pausing when it comes to Six Flags. I need to get rid of that pause. We can--and will--add roller coasters, but we can't abandon the rest of the park. Look, I love coasters. My favorite ride is the American Eagle (racing wood coaster at Six Flags Great America near Chicago). That's where I grew up. I'm proud of our thrill ride heritage. But, so much of our focus has been on roller coasters that our eye was off the ball when it came to taking care of the parks and taking care of our guests.

It doesn't matter if it's his favorite ride or the fact that he grew up with Great America.

He would not save the Eagle because of his personal sentimental reasons. That was back when he was a teenager. He is now a 37 year old CEO of a large corporation. He is thinking business first.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I'm not sure if this was true, but I read somewhere that a major reason why Shockwave was taken out was taken out was because the former GM hated the ride ever since it opened. I think I got this from another forum site so this may not be true but I think the management's beliefs of rides have something to with removals and additions...

i guess it is possible. But i think it was taken out because of its low ridership. Whizzer still gets a lot or riders and usually has a long line.

^Shockwave was probably taken out because of its mechanical problems. There was a big problem at the end of the 2002 season which is probably why the main reason why Shockwave is gone.

AE won't leave anytime soon. Its big, and it still gets more ridership than other coasters in the park.

^ Yeah AE does eventough people think it really doesn't. I think the ops that Eagle does a well job, and thats probably why the line is so short for it.

They just need to fix it up a bit. If you think about it, when people get off the ride they are usually smiling...of all ages. Same goes for Viper and RB. Everyone loves those rides, there classic.

Eagle needs brand new trains and it will be great again. This year it's become extremely rough in some places.

No it needs complete overhaul, new computer system, and finally retracking of the ENTIRE ride course.

that plus tweak the structure so they could get ride of the wings, and yeah, it does need new trains, with standard equipment on them, not all this home made lapbar stuff. Believe it or not Eagle would be a prime example of the perfect coaster for Vekoma Wood Coaster trains as seen in Europe. The best wood coaster trains around imho.
